5-14-2013 Quilt-Cam!

What a SUPER day to treadle on the deck!

I loved every minute of it…as did Sadie.

Can you see her there, taking in the outside splendor? Chillaxing? Just hanging with the Mama??

This was just what the doctor ordered for me today.  Fresh air, bird song, gentle breezes, but not too much…..and treadle time!

I’ve gotten this far….I usually sew strip sets of two, join two to four and four to eight….but I have an alterior motive.

dancingnines 001

I am cutting these border strip sets 5” long because they are 5” tall.  If I do these strip sets 3 strips high...

dancingnines 002

…I can trim the short ends to 2”
And use them to build more 9 patches!
((Can a girl ever have too many scrappy 9 patches??))

The inner borders are on.  I just need to piece the final piano keys!

**Note** There is no written pattern for these quilts yet.  They are still in progress and I am designing and making choices as I go. I never write the instructions before the quilts are made. Please be patient and I will upload the pattern AFTER the quilts are finished.

Wanna join me?

Click the arrow on the screen below to start the feed.  If you come AFTER we end…remember it can take up to an hour for YouTube to process and archive the video so you can watch it later.  Let’s Sew!

Oops we lost power! Here's our second try!

  1. Hi Bonnie,
Glad to join you. I'm piecing twinkling star blocks for a guild exchange.
Treadling on the porch sounds lovely. Too cold here in Ohio today.

  4. How is the treadle on your knees and hips? I have ankle and knee weakness that can't be strengthened. I get tired very quickly. How does it work for you?

  6. Great to see you sewing so contentedly......I know you'll make this new life transition smoothly and find what works for you both. I think a positive attitude and a bit of humor will get us both through having our husbands working in the house :0)

A good sewing space will go a long way for us to have a peaceful retreat spot.

    Happy Sewing

  11. Don't feel guilty about sewing! Sewing is your career, so when you're sewing and creating, you ARE working! (I can rationalize anything...hehehe)

  12. If hubby is working at home, I don't think you should worry at all about sewing when he's there. Sewing is your job! You are doing the prep work for your next book! :-)

  15. Andi in MN again... to store fat quarters, do you fold them pretty much the same way you do your yardage? I'm ironing FQs tonight but won't be doing anything with them for a week or two.

  25. So fun hearing you mention towns in IL that are very close to home. Am hoping to catch you in Ottawa on Fri., but have a job interview at 4:00 and am not sure I'll be able to make it on time. Really enjoyable watching you put your borders on tonight. Love learning all the tips you share.

  27. Hello from Owego, NY....I should be working on my Charlotte's Baskets from your workshop a few days ago but Im working on our guild's mystery instead. That ugly green fabric I complained about in Glen Falls has made its way into this project also! It just keeps multiplying!

  28. Bonnie, please help quickly if you can. Do you have a Domestic 153 machine? Found one for $19 if I get it by 9:00 tonight AZ time at Goodwill w/sr discount. But has not foot or knee controller and I didn't see where it would hook into the machine. Do you know where the controller plugs in? It is adorable. I want it! Brown crinkle finish. But need to know I can plug in something to make it go.... Thanks if you have any info at all!

    1. Thanks so much anyway, Bonnie. It was a shot. My daughter in TX also wants it. It is adorable! And found knee and foot pedals for only about $20 each. Just hoped to find out from somone who has one to tell me if that funny little round silver hole on the lower right is the place a controller plugs in. Otherwise, this machine is clean as a whistle and power cord is supple and all looks soooo good.

    2. Ha ha. I couldn't resist after all. Found a couple pics on the internet that helped after I messaged you. Hurried back to the store and saw what I needed to see. So now, another $20 for a replacement controller, and it should all work. If not, well I've spent more on less before, I guess.... The cabinet is compact and very sturdy, so that's well worth the price on it's own. But the machine is so cute--it just called to me. Thanks for answering while you were busy with Quiltcam. Thanks, thanks.

  30. Hi Bonnie! Of course you realize all this is happening because you're almost done! (thread break, etc!) lol That's when I usually break a needle or run out of bobbin or egads! whatever! lol
Sewing a sleeve onto my Orca Bay quilt to show at the San Mateo County Fair here in a couple of weeks. So fun to sew with you!

  36. Great Quilt Cam! I am piecing batiks and thrift store shirt plaids and stripes in red, white and blue; no right sides to match. It is so liberating to just pick up two strips and sew! When I saw the 9 patch picture for your nephews quilts I thought "Kissing Cousins". Thanks for the motivation and tips during Quilt Cam!
