On Checking in and Passing Out!

Hello from Pennsylvania!

The whole day has gone by without a hitch --- flights were on time, luggage showed up in great condition!

((If you saw these coming down the conveyor belt, would you guess they were mine?!))

And I had a leisurely drive to where I am staying for the first half of the week ---in a town called Hamburg, situated half way between Lebanon and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania ---

I’ll be bouncing back and forth between the two guilds quite a bit, a lecture with one group one night, and class with the other one the next day, and back to the other guild the next day and bouncing back to the other the next and so-forth ---so it was best to put  me smack dab in between them so I only have to go half way to get back to my bed each night.  Works for me!

Only --- I arrived here by noon and I couldn’t check into my room until 3pm.  What to do!? What to do!?

Pennsylvania is not the hotbed of activity on Sunday --- Amish country is all buttoned up and closed down tightly – so that wouldn't have been a good stop.  I tried one antique mall that was open from noon to 5pm and that was full of so much left over Christmas stuff……Two machines not good ---I abandoned the search for antiques in the area on Sunday.

What else can a girl do til check in time?

What’s that on the hill?
Cabelas!

When there are no fabric stores or antique shops near by --- here is a way you can entertain yourself ---there is even a restaurant inside! ((Men get hungry shopping for camo, you know?))

I wandered around and looked at stuffed things.  LOADS of stuffed things.  Oh.  My.

The fish don’t seem scared of this guy at all!

I walked around the corner to find “Home Dec” in full swing ---

Or would that be….HOME DUCK!?

PA_April2013 011

Cuz I swear I’ve seen this same living room suite on Duck Dynasty!

((This couch was so great in camouflaging itself that I really didn’t see it sitting there at all!!))

((Ssssshhhhh – don’t show the DH!  He’ll think this is a good idea for our mountain cabin furnishings!! NOOOO!!!))

And as an afterthought ---they better never make a camo-look remote control, or you'll never see it on that couch either!

At 3pm I finally wandered back to the hotel and checked my self in, and promptly checked myself out for a 2 hour nap.  MUCH NEEDED!

There is no sewing machine along with me this trip ---with all the bouncing around between guilds and the evenings not really being free to sew, I decided to concentrate on this and spend the sewing time UNPLUGGED:

I’ve finished the neutral round around the center medallion ….there is another round of motifs that will circle this….and at some point I’m going to have to start drafting it out where it goes from there because this is as far as it goes in my head!

Much love from Pennsylvania ---

  1. "This is as far as it goes in my head." LOL! I'm working on a quilt for my youngest son, and I am stumped on the backing. I had the brilliant idea of doing his first initial in scraps. I got a 21" square, and trying to figure out where to go next...for the past 3 days. I'm hoping to get inspiration tomorrow at the fabric store.

    2. There is a quilt shop in Hamburg, "Happy sewing room". The owner is Jean Boyd and she is a big fan of yours. She carries your books and have several of your quilts made.

  6. Bonnie - we visited that part of the country a couple of years ago. Not too far from Bethlehem is Nazareth PA - and the Martin Guitar factory. Such a very well done museum, and well worth the trip if you are interested in music. I also enjoyed the People's Place Quilt Museum in Intercourse, PA. Enjoy your trip, and your slow Sunday stitching

  11. I've always wondered what was inside of Cabelas. Have only driven by and never stopped. Definitely looks like Duck Dynasty. Too funny.
Glad you got a nice Sunday nap! Love your hexie project.

  14. Hi Bonnie, I hope you enjoy your stay in Pa. I'm a few miles away in Hatfield which is closer to Philadelphia. The one thing I don't like about Cabela's is the stuffed things. I don't think they had that wonderful furniture when I was there!

  15. Oh Bonnie, did you ever bring back memories. I LIVED in Hamburg almost 20 years ago and Cabela's wasn't even there. Sundays were very quiet but at the time it was okay because my kids were small and it was family time. Enjoy your stay. It really is a nice area for quilting--I sure did my share when we lived there!

  18. I live in Hamburg. Bonnie, if you are in a mood for the best cheese steaks in your life, try Russo's on the main 4th street in Hamburg, just down the road from "Happy Sewing Room". They are closed on Monday.

  21. Glad you had a good flight and were able to amuse yourself until that wonderful NAPTIME check-in was available. The hexies look great!

  22. Ahh, naps are always good. That camo furniture is just too much. Really. Too. Much.
Love the hexies. I need to get back to mine.

  23. Wow you have really made the progress on the hexies! You go girl, I bet the Cabella's folks would have let you sew hexies on that Camo couch! ROFL.... Anyway is there some hints or tricks to how you do your hexies ? I will need to look in tips and techniques since I have a hexie started, ( aka the Lifetime Quilt) since it has been in the works for quite sometime. Enjoy your trip in Pennsylvania, hope the weather is not too cold and wet...
