We have spent the morning running around in search of industrial carpet tiles for the basement, and replacement doors for both the front and back entryways to the house.
Doors have been chosen and someone will come measure for the installation.
Carpet tiles have been chosen and are loaded in the back of the trailer! Much discussion ensues on when this carpet project will commence! :-)
There were are two choices. The dark one on the left makes a star pattern when the tiles are rotated-- the lighter one on the right had a fun squiggly design.
Firmly believing that basement carpet should be the color of dirt, we chose the darker one on the left over the lighter one on the right.
I'm excited about the possibilities of this new home improvement project, the only daunting prospect being the moving of the fabric cabinets, the freezer, the extra fridge, and everything that is in the studio side of the basement. :-(
Looks like we have our winter work cut out for us!

i'm so glad you are putting those carpet tiles down in your basement! i'm trying to convince my hubby that's what i need under the longarm in my basement. sure hope you post how the install goes and how you like them. what concerns me are two things - will the longarm be level after i put the tiles down (i do not want to mess that up!), and will they be easy to peel up if they get wet? that part of our basement is pretty dry but once in a blue moon we get water in that area. i mean, in 16 years of living there maybe 2 times there was water in the one corner.
ReplyDeletehope they work out for you! our home is slowly but surely getting a new look, too. we bought a new range hood and backsplash for the kitchen. as soon as the backsplash gets here (it was backordered) we are putting that puppy up! i'm so sick of the nasty one we have that doesn't work - everyone makes fog horn noises when it gets smoky in the kitchen and that's starting to get old... haha.
Now even tho' the tiles may be the color of dirt, not all your threads will be hahahahaha
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that the basement floor should be the color of dirt! The only down side to dark carpet is that loos threads are VERY visible on darker carpets. Ask me how I know! :-)
ReplyDeleteGood choice! You will be able to see shiny pins and needles when they drop. See you tonight on quilt cam.
ReplyDeleteI like the pattern on the darker tile ( as if that matters! ) but I think the light one with lines in it will hide thread s and other stuff! Just a thought, after u made the decision anyhow. Enjoy the change. Micki
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty color for 'dirt'. Have fun with your winter project while we all slave away on the Mystery, LOL.
ReplyDeleteProfessional flooring installers have these really cool dollies for moving all the heavy stuff. They slip them under two sides of the item, jack them up a little and roll it out of the way and then back again. Maybe you could rent something like that.
ReplyDeleteHaving put in a dark blue carpet once and then having to sweep it all the time because every light thread showed up on it. It is much easier to keep the lighter carpet clean looking. I would never put in a dark carpet again.

My basement carpet is dark green--really dark--and I would take the showing of light threads any day over the stains and dirt a lighter carpet would show!! Good choice.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're doing the flooring project yourself??? At least with tiles you can do a section at a time. Seems like moving the stuff, laying the tiles, then putting it all back could be done in manageable sections, so it's not such a daunting project. However it's done, good luck, and enjoy the new floor.
ReplyDeleteAs much as you're gone teaching, are you expected to help with this project? Might be a long time getting done if you are! (lol)
