QuiltCam ---The Hurricane Sandy Edition!
I wonder how many won't be able to tune in tonight because they are without power due to Hurricane Sandy?! Thoughts and prayers for warmth and safety going out to those in the storm right now!
The design wall is up! We simply just nailed the panels to the wall into the studs. It didn't take much to put it there, and I love how it looks!
The fleece blankets may not be as "sticky" with quilt blocks as cotton batting or flannel may be --but maybe the blocks I've put up are heavier with lots of seams and piecing.
But then even the 6" Jubilee Sow Along blocks didn't stick well to the old flannel-tacked-to-the-wall design wall either -- they also had to be pinned or fell off with the swinging of the quilt room door -- or the turning on of the oscillating fan on the first hot day of summer. ;c)
Whatever it is, it is no problem at all to just punch a pin in there to hold the blocks in place and that will stop them from flying off as we walk by.
I DO love the gray color!
I took some time to kit up some more Moth in the Window blocks. I'm trying to really stay focused on just a few things at a time, and that is what I'll be sewing on tonight. I plan to stick around for an hour and a half or so.
Are you ready? Bring a project, come hang out!
Some have had problems with the feed, getting audio just fine but no video. If this happens to you, check to make sure that your flash player is up to date.
Click the "pause" button on the viewer, and then click the arrow to restart the feed ---this sometimes works.
Completely shut down and reboot your computer. Try a different browser. I find that I have the best luck with Google Chrome.

ARHHHHHGH.. I have power, I have internet... but I can't hear you.... OH Snap!
ReplyDeleteHi, Bonnie. I'm excited to make it to quilt cam tonight, but I can't hear you. I can see you, and I can see and hear the advertisements, so I'm wondering if you have hit a mute button on your end?
ReplyDelete-Bobbi
Picture but no sound ... my lipreading skills aren't that good!!!
ReplyDeleteNow it says you're "Off Air" .....
DeleteAre you sure you have the volume turned up on your end? I can hear the beginning commercial, but no sound when you are on.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture, but no sound.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie LOVE your design wall !
ReplyDeleteI see you and hear the ad but I can not hear you :-( I see you but no sound
no sound
ReplyDeleteI don't hear any sound on either my PC or the iPad.
ReplyDeleteOkay, yes, good Quiltcam! Keep my mind off this SNOW that's coming tonight (here in WV) ;c)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie. I can't hear you either. Jocelyne from Montréal.
ReplyDeleteBummer! I've got video but no sound from you. The commercials have sound but you don't. I've tried restarting you with no effect. Using Chrome. I really don't want to reboot the computer because I don't want to lose the content of other open tabs.
ReplyDeleteSame here. I can see you but no sound...
ReplyDeletethere it is! :)
DeleteI watch you on your cam all the time here in California !
DeleteReally love how your studio is coming along You are going to be So organized !!!!
I am working on my basket wool applique table runner while listening to you. You make me laugh :-D
I too, cannot hear you, but can hear the comercials P(
ReplyDeleteAnd "Poof" there she went...
ReplyDeleteOh Bonnie, please read your comments...many of us can't hear you. I've changed browsers, rebooted etc. I think it is on your end as I can hear the commercials just fine. UGH!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm finally sewing along with you, instead of just watching. Simple and easy four patches tonight..nothing that requires much thought this late in my day!
ReplyDeleteYes I can hear you Yeeepee!
ReplyDeleteYeaaaaa we have sound although it echoes every now n then.. :D
ReplyDeleteYeahhh! I can hear you now :-D
ReplyDeleteNo sound here either. Maybe it's the hurricane outside here in NJ.
ReplyDeleteWhile im waiting, wanted to say thost tshirts fit great! Every one i buy, like from paducah museum, are not cheap and fit like a mans. Big in shulders n sleeves n long, boxy. Love those, will have to get some one day. Are they 100% cotton?
ReplyDeleteYeah! I can hear you now!
ReplyDeleteSwitched laptops.... now i hear you!!!!
ReplyDeleteSound ow after rebooting my iPad. Working on spools tonight. Have commission quilts washing and drying....glad you are on
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, love your new studio. It sure looked like a lot of hard work. I really like your Moth in the Window blocks.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie - all good here in Oz :)
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteLove sharing my sewing room with you. :) I'm putting together a utility shelf and deboning some shirts. I'm wondering why many quilters are particular about only using 100% cotton. A few of the shirts I was given are blends. How much will it matter if I use those in a quilt?
-Bobbi
I'm here! barbie in windy Wilmington
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, I'm working on the modern mystery from AQS, and happily anticipating your new mystery. I can't wait until Halloween!
ReplyDeleteShanon from Ohio
so glad you are back on. I quilted on a customer quilt and finished it and then I got to sew for myself. so glad. your design wall is great.
ReplyDeleteGot sound now. Closed Chrome and reopened it. Now it works!
ReplyDeleteFirst time quilt cam viewer here. Thought I would see what kind of reaction my family would have after reading other posts. Also, have The Weather Channel on. Jim Cantore (HOT!) smells something burning in NYC
ReplyDeleteLove your design wall. I really like the gray too. I finished my Farmers Wife Quilt top late last night. Sitting on the couch tonight sewing on a binding on an old UFO quilt I started two years ago. Not much weather to report here in Verona, VA with power and cable.
ReplyDelete42 degrees, light rain and little wind.

ReplyDeleteBonnie, great distraction form sandy.
ReplyDeleteI can hear you clear in Illinois. I am working on a B lock Party pattern called Good Points for an 8 yr old boy. I already made a quilt for his 4 yr old sister who had luekemia.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of calling it a night, but now that I see you are on, I guess I have found enough motivation to sew a row or two. ALL the string blocks are done for my Jamestown Landing after a long three day weekend for Sandy. Now I am slowly, carefully getting the rows together. What a great quilt!! Hard to believe that such an intricate pattern comes from just two simple subunits. Already thinking about the new mystery and wondering if more strings are involved? Just kidding, seriously, I do understand the concept of mystery. Its just more fun to keep guessing.
ReplyDeleteHEARING YOU LOUD AND CLEAR IN INDIANA!!!!
ReplyDeleteHave picture and SOUND!!!! Just chilling and listening to you.
ReplyDeleteOn the Mystery Quilt - just tell her to get 3 yards of every fabric that appeals to her!! Isn't that how we build our stash??? I finally got on early enough to join you from eastern Washington state! Susan
ReplyDeleteYeah, then we have to move and fold it when we do a room update. Me-I am all for using scraps!
DeleteHi Bonnie-
ReplyDeleteWatching you during the hurricane in Northern Virginia. We are doing well, just lots of wind. I have used your idea and decluttering my magazines and placing the patterns or ideas I like in sleeve pages. I also had no sound so I had to reboot entire computer and now I can see and hear. Stay safe everyone.
Michelle in Triangle, Virginia
Bonnie, Just joined you on webcam from WV where we are currently under a flood/blizzard watch. I am working on handquilting a dresden plate quilt in my quilt frame while watching you.
ReplyDeleteI will be in your workshop this weekend in Hawks Nest, WV.
I do have sound.Love the T-shirt.
ReplyDeleteHi from sunny Australia love quiltcam
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI'm having lunch here in Australia whilst watching you on quilt cam! Have a bunch of blocks to sew for a new project I'm excited about, lots of lovely fabric flying!
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI am amazed you have the energy for quilt cam with all the work you have been doing on your studio, but I am glad you do.
I am wondering how you do sleeves. I like to do flat sleeves because I primarily make bed quilts. Now shows seem to specify that they want a "D" sleeve. Thanks
The Studio is looking great. I'm so impressed you have done all the work so fast. Leeann in New Zealand
ReplyDeleteBonnie, blinging my halloween shirt to match my grand daughter's spider girl I finished during quilt cam the othe night. Then I am going to cut some more squares for my scrappy bow ties, using greys for the background, calling it 50 shades of grey!!
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by from Vienna, VA.
ReplyDeleteStill got power! Pretty windy. Rain all day.
Great day to stay home and sew!
Fabulous quiltcam viewing from sunny Malaysia on iPad...yay! I am looking forward to your mystery quilt along and I do enjoy both your blogs and quiltvillechat group.
ReplyDeletePlease, what is that quilt behind you? Beautiful. So glad you've got a design wall now. I agree the gray looks great. Good to see you tonight.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie-
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention before those that still wanted to get the Quiltmaker magazine with your moth in the window pattern can get it on ebay for $5.98 free shipping.
Michelle in Triangle, VA
Worked on my Tulip Fields and got lots of small blocks and have enough to do 20 four-patch blocks! Have fifty of the border blocks and am ready to start putting together the blocks for Tumbleweeds! I have been getting so much done since quilt cam came along. Tonight am pulling what I want out of magazines form 2007!
ReplyDeletenot sure I can sew tonight. Have a cat on my chest and two dogs squeezed next to me.
ReplyDeleteI am folding fabric in anticipation of a move. I am overwhelmed by my stash (which isn't really large compared to some.) How do you not feel overwhelmed?
thnks,
Nikki in VAA
Love, love, love the string stars quilt behind you. Do you have a pattern for it?
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, watching you from our hotel in Boston, we are here warm and cozy having had our quilting tour disrupted by Sandy. Hopefully we will get our flights to Houston on Wednesday and not miss out on the quilt show. There are 22 of us here from Australia doing an awesome quilting and patchwork tour
ReplyDeleteBonnie, please tell me what all you use your Accucut. hope I spelled the so you know what I am talking about.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to see you tonight
and to still have power. I'm 70 miles north of NYC
the wind is gusting like crazy but my trees are still standing and
I have power so I'm going to enjoy sewing with you tonight.
Yesterday I caught up on all my 6 inch blocks for Randy's sewing along. I'm doing a completely red one and a second one in blues and golds.
Happy Sewing,
Kim
Good sound now. Wish I could sew with you tonight but I'm tuckered out. I was sewing ALL day in anticipation of losing power here in NJ. Somehow it is still on even with the wicked wind outside. I will still watch though.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteLOVE YOUR T-SHIRT. I am sorting, organizing, and cutting SCRAPSAVER'S pieces OF fabric for the new mystery while enjoying QUILTCAM.....and all I can say is that I HAD BETTER NOT LOSE ELECTRICITY DURING QUILTCAM...Hurricane Sandy, BEWARE!...lol.
Thanks for all that you do!!!!
sao in WINDY Midlothian, VA
70 degrees today in SE Washington State. Sorry for those in Sandy's path. Nice to catch you tonight on Quilt Cam. I got my advance copies of QM 100 Blocks. Love your new Block you designed for it. My "tester" quilt is in the Gallery of the magazine. Nice to be in such good company!
ReplyDeleteI didn't hear you all the way tonight and you might not have read my Question on air. I had to re-boot twice and the Skype doesn't like when I watch the quiltcam. I use Google Chrome. The feed kept repeating but I enjoyed it anyway. Thanks for sharing your excitement for Scrappy Quilts!
DeleteWow! The number in the lower left-does that mean that over 500 people are watching! And it's Tracy in Beavercreek, OH. A Dear Jane from waaaaaay back. Are you ever coming back to a Dear Jane Shipshewana retreat?
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie this is Bonnie from Va. Several friends and I have been having a virtal quilt retreat (SANDY) at home today. In Richmond and surrounding areas so far the storm as not been as bad as the weather man has said it would be. My story is the power of quilters, quilting and praying kept the storm away. I just hope it says away. Half of the state of Va is has SANDY and the other half has a winter snow storm. Thanks for quilt cam
ReplyDeletebonnie
"That many sewing machines!?" And the museum wouldn't include those you have out in rotation being used and in cabinets here and there.... BTW, Barbie sounds soooo nice!
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for quilt cam tonight. It is nice to have a diversion from all the high wind and flood warnings. Wishing the best to all those who are nearer the hurricane than I am. Hope you are all safe.
Sue
Upstate NY
Talk about multi tasking! I"m watching Piers Morgan as he gets reports in from the storm, I'm watching you for the first time, woo -hoo and I'm doing hand appliqué, my favorite thing to do. Hope you stay safe from this storm. Being from New Orlearss, I know 1st hand what people are going thru. My thoughts and prayers to everyone
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing the different quilts over your longarm. What a beautiful quilt and love the border. It's good to see you on quilt cam tonight.
I love the quilt on your longarm? Is that one of yours?
ReplyDeleteAm off work today and tomorrow because of Sandy. Was planning to work on a group project that I'm coordinating and is due before Thanksgiving but my Bernina isn't working right. About time to kick her to the curb. My other machine in in the car across the street. Maybe the wind will die down enough so I can bring it in tomorrow. So, I'm cutting spool kits.
ReplyDeleteHello from West Virginia! Love your 'new' studio!
ReplyDeleteQuestion... when you 'kit', do you actually put each block in a baggie or do you just pin all the pieces together
ReplyDeletehaven't blown away yet!!!
Greeting from Maple Ridge BC Canada.
ReplyDeleteI'm working along with you sewing the
binding on the 10th Anniversary Mini
Quilt of our retreat group Gathering
of Friends.
Bev H.
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteGoing to start on a story time stars quilt tonight. I do have a question for you though, if you were to sell some of your quilts, how would you decide on the cost. I have a lot of scraps, and I would just like to recover some of the costs, by making the quilts and selling them.
Thanks
Kathy in Utah
Arghhh, now the dog wants to go out, why only when quilt cam is on or when I am in the middle of a quilting project, its either the dogs, or the kids, my husband has learned after all these years its kinda like football, do not interupt
ReplyDeleteHi BonnieCam!
ReplyDeleteI am at my other home and departing for the PNW on Wednesday, so I have been closing down my sewing room here. I do have a kit for a fleece blanket for a friend's daughter. I think I will work on that during quiltcam. But first I just ordered the QM mag that has the moth in the window pattern. I think I will save that for a project i work on down here. Love your upbeat spirit.
Where I am right now it was 80 degrees today. And sunny. Paradise!
But I have family and friends on the east coast and they are never far from my thoughts during this historic weather event.
Quilt on!
I think I jinxed myself. I just tried to consummate the order (pay for it!) and it won't go through. Says its my credit card number or something, but I tried two and no luck. I'm blaming it on a certain weather event! I'll try again in a few days!
DeleteDo you ever find yourself narrating when you don't have the camera on? Too bad you don't have a "secretary" to read the comments to you so you can keep sewing! Or one of those new text-to-talk phones.
ReplyDeleteHow do you sew so fast and still maintain accuracy?
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie: Susan here, in Washington in northwest New Jersey, our street is one of the few that still has power. The wind is gusting so hard the chains on my ceiling fan are swaying. Quilt cam with your cheery voice is just the distraction I need. Will stay with you as long as the power lasts. Susan
ReplyDeleteI spent 8 hours today frogging the 102" border of a quilt because I didn't like the pattern I was quilting - replaced it with feathers...the top half of the feathers are done - so I have watching the news watching you sew! Susan
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI've got my center applique block done on my 12 day of Christmas -- then today I got all the 12 blocks around done. Now adding borders :D This will be my daughter's Christmas present along with a matching set of stockings -- She is in Cape Cod, keeping me posted with texts, also my stepson and his family are in Norwalk -- they have no power and they have evacuated her parents from their home as it is too close to the water.
Dee in AR
I live in Georgia, Mom is in Cleveland, Ohio. She always worries when she hears hurricane and makes sure I am not in harms way. Funny thing this time...she's probably getting worse weather than I am!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! I'm sewing down binding tonight. Finally got the scrappy batik alternating diamond quilt FMQ'd, not bad for a second try at it! Love watching your show :)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie. What is the name of the quilt behind you? Looks so pretty.
ReplyDeleteAileen from FL
I need the kitting up directions for the Moth in the Window blocks. I so want do make one for myself but cannot find the cutting directions anywhere.
ReplyDeleteCathy / Denver.....no snow....no wind....no storm
Great T-shirt!!! I'm working on a Thimbleberries pattern today. I show a photo of it on my blog-mkhquilts. I also show a photo of my finished crab apple tree quilt top.
ReplyDeleteWatching images of the lights pretty much all out in Manhattan! Spooky! Pinning & stitching on my Aussie quilt today! Made a four patch border! Great to watch you sew!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! I'm putting the borders on my "Jared takes a wife" quilt. I started it at your workshop in Bedford last July. At least the top will be finished when I give it to my brother at Christmas. I so enjoy sewing with you through quiltcam. Jane from Allison Park, Pa.
ReplyDeleteI'm just watching you with one eye, and Dancing with the Stars with the other. No weather problems here in Kansas. Also staring at boxes of scraps, with absolutely no motivation as to what to do with them. Any ideas? Don't have them in any system, just a mish-mash. Haven't purchased any fabric in a while, but it may take something new to get my mojo back. Christy
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I kow I have already posed but wanted to let you know what I am working on. I'm doing the block of the week, Grandmothers choice, about the sufferage of women before we could vote. I am really enjoying it too.
ReplyDeleteIs that Barbara Brackman's block of the week sew-a-long? I wanted to do that too, but am working on too many at the same time !
DeleteI'm working on a crown royal quilt. I cut a 4" square out of the crown royal bags, and use that as the center of a sawtooth star block. The sawtooth star ends up being 7.5" unfinished--- I've been cutting and cutting and cutting ;c) I'll sew tomorrow ...*IF* we have power ;c)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI forgot to ask if you found the piece you were missing the other night. It had an embroidery on it?
yes, will you comment on it on your facebook entry - I always manage to miss all of your answers to the questions in this comment area.
DeleteHi Bonnie - I love quiltcam. I'm cutting the inner borders on my red and brown Smith Mountain Morning. I'm using a stripe and trying to figure out how to sew the strips so the stripes match. I love this pattern.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, I can hear you loud & clear, BUT no picture :-(
ReplyDeleteDasha in Australia
FYI...I had trouble with my design wall and the insulation board backing off the nail. A big headed nail/ screw with a big washer solved the problem
ReplyDeleteBonnie can you give the dimensions for the moth in the window, tried to get it from quiltmaker, mag. no can do. Pleeze:)
ReplyDeleteHey Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteVery windy here in CT. Hoping no trees fall on the house overnight. I am dying to see the bowtie quilt finished! Please don't forget to post pics. It's one of my favorites of yours. I have Warm and Natural on my design wall and everything sticks. I highly recommend it. - Shelley
OMG the design wall is so big . Wow I would love to have that much room for a design wall . I think the grey is very practical and it works so well with the carpet . Lighter always shows all the threads and ages quicker .Tonight I'm mending socks & shirts for a bit . Beth in Cape Breton
ReplyDeleteOk.... way too funny. My dog heard you whistling and started barking. =)
ReplyDeleteHi, Bonnie! Watching you and Dancing With the Stars! Also quilting a large quilt of civil war fabrics on my domestic.
ReplyDeleteHi, Bonnie. Commenting again because I think my question got lost in the beginning comments. I'm deboning some shirts, and I'm wondering why many quilters only use 100% cotton. A few of the shirts I was gifted are cotton/poly blends. Will it make a difference if I quilt with them?
ReplyDelete-Bobbi
hi bonnie
ReplyDeletetell us about the top on the long arm
Bonnie, Are you always so effervescent? Wondering if you've had a sip of Chardonnay? Love your vitality!
ReplyDeleteWait until you find chargers for no-longer have cordless phones and you still not sure if you should pitch it! :)
ReplyDeleteJust been reading your book, Leaders and Enders. Thought I would go through my scraps and cut strips and blocks. Your book inspires me, as well as all your organizing! Love your books! I can finally make sense out of my scraps!
ReplyDeleteJust been reading your book, Leaders and Enders. Thought I would go through my scraps and cut strips and blocks. Your book inspires me, as well as all your organizing! Love your books! I can finally make sense out of my scraps!
ReplyDeleteNow that you mentioned your travels, I finally remembered what I always wanted to ask you! :) How do you sneak your needle on the airplane? I tried that once on my log trip to germany and the airport security took my sewing supplies (even after telling that nice man "but Bonnie Hunter ALWAY sews on her flights!" he didn't want to give it back to me) :)
ReplyDeleteHappy sewing, Bonnie!
Hi Bonnie! So glad to be catching you on quilt cam tonight! Just got dinner started here on the west coast. Working on finishing my Xmas quilts so I can be all ready to concentrate on the mystery this year. This will be my 4th mystery with you! Can. Not. Wait! : )
ReplyDelete-Sarah in Pacifica
ps What is that bit of gorgeous (quilt) behind you?! Love!
I really like using felt on my design wall. They had a half off sale at Joanns and I got it for just over 2 bucks a yard at 60" wide I believe it was. Blocks have been sticking great!
ReplyDeleteI have spent the past three days cleaning out a closet in my sewing room. All the bins of fabric were trucked out to the living room with a hand dolly. Old clothes pole and shelf were removed. Three trips to Home Depot later and seven new shelves have been installed. Most of my fabric has been moved back into the refurbished closet. It is very nice to have my stash so easily accessible, but girl friend! I have WAY too much fabric. I have a fabric problem. I need an intervention! So tonight I am tired and just watching and listening to you without sewing.
ReplyDeleteOh, forgot to ask. If you haven't already mentioned it, what is the quilt hanging behind you on the longarm?
ReplyDeleteThe mis-behaving Bernina is a 1230 that is 24 years old. I'm wondering if the feed dogs stop feeding. I'll be stitching along and then it gets "stuck" and sews very tiny, tight stitches. I had to rip out everything I did today. I will take it in to get it looked at but I need to work on my group project NOW! so I can get it done on time.
ReplyDeletePLEASE take a piece of quilt batting and put up on your design wall and try sticking your blocks to that.
ReplyDeleteI used that only on mine. It was not as pretty as yours, but they stick and I RARELY had to use a pin. You have that super, duper wide roll of batting... Trust me, try it. Worked for me for YEARS over that foam core board in high humidity situation.
Please say hi to Dallas in Macon, as he is watching you and your biggest fan!~ thank you
I just finished making caramels and a pumpkin cake. I still need to make the cream cheese frosting for the cake. You're giving me the energy to clean up!
ReplyDeleteDesign wall solution: run a rolling thread catcher over the entire area. Builds friction and pulls up the flannel threads for sticky bliss!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! Just tuned in after dinner and I'm glad to see that you're on. I'm jusst curious - did you ever find the little square you lost the other night? I love your basement redo - the carpet looks great. I love your large design wall. And, of course, your fabric cabinets and stash is to die for. I keep telling myself that I'm not jealous. Yeah right!
ReplyDeleteWHOOPs! Was sewing, now ripping! End of block sewn wrong way around. Now, how did that happen? Put it down to my post lunch daze...
ReplyDeleteOh but hey, have you seen the Superior Thread snippers? They have a wicked sharp point that gets into the tiniest of stitches, going to get a good workout!
Yes Bonnie, you're slowing down, depixilating, and also looping a few times...very odd.
ReplyDeleteyahoo!!! The upside of this hurricane is that I can sew without guilt... I have ALL of the pieces parts together from the Jared Takes a Wife class in Bedford last July
ReplyDeleteSometimes the video repeats itself, so it seems as though you are saying things twice.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, watching you from Saskatchewan Canada again...tonight I am pressing and folding my small mountain of fabric that has been piling up on my ironing table.
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you... what do you do with all the quilts you've made?
Hope everyone is safe from "Sandy"
So nice to check in with you. Always enjoy quiltcam. @ 10:01 ustream went black & said "content not on line." I wonder if they are located in the Northeast? I'll check back @ 10:20 to see if you are back.
ReplyDeleteSure is windy here in NC, but we are lucky. Take care, b
Okay! Must have just been a weird thing... 10:06 & ustream is back up! Yeah.
ReplyDeleteMorning Has Broken was one of the songs sung at our wedding 30 years ago! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie from dry and calm Liberty Lake Washington. I am hoping all the people affected by Sandy are snug and dry and safe. Eating dinner with my Sweetie. He made a big pot of chicken soup this weekend so we are feasting on it now.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteGlad I caught you on "quilt cam"again. Love your new design wall and seeing all the progress you have made on your basement.
Mary Ann
Grand Forks,North Dakota
That 1990s string star is beautiful. Finishing will feel great of course. :D
ReplyDeleteFeed just went out -my end or yours??? Loading, loading. Sandy is not being nice tonight. Thanks for your good wishes last night. We only lost power for a brief time. I was able to finish a few loose ends projects today in spite of the storm. Thanks for doing quilt cam tonight. It was great after a very long day.
ReplyDeleteSent you an email using the email button on the left but don't see my comment here. Hmm.
ReplyDeleteE-mails must feed into another forum. Just like my emails go to my email address and not to my facebook.
DeleteYou're inspiring! What do you do with all your finished quilts? My goal when I started quilting was to finish 100 bed size quilts. I'm over half way there, and have given away about half of them. But I'm still running out of room.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I've finished Carolina Christmas and double delight so far and am going to start pineapple blossom next. :)
Stephanie
On that string star, the red and gold checkerboard effect is great and the hst border is too...If you just aren't "feelin' " the applique border maybe you could just take that off and finish up with another kind of border...Something that's a bit fresher and would make you like it again!?!
ReplyDelete-Sarah
Do you have a plan for the next leaders and Enders project now that the bowtie piecing is finished? Enjoying Quilt Cam tonight.
ReplyDeleteomG bonnie, you shouldn't feel that way! your quilts are REAL. they are the ones that will be used and loved and remembered!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, the matchy-matchy can be purchased at wally world. We want and love the scrappy-scrappy that you do so well!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Wylie, Texas. I'm cutting apart shirts and enjoying a little Bonnie-time. I love all your tips and tricks. I always learn something new during QuiltCam time.
ReplyDeleteOh Bonnie! Don't think your quilts are the step sisters! In reality, anyone can go to the store and buy matched fabrics and a pattern and make it. It takes a real SCRAP QUEEN to make the interesting quilts we make with our collections of so many great fabrics - remember, we are doing the world good and recycling! Carol in Arkansas
ReplyDeleteAnd, saving money! Bonnie told us in a class that once you piece the fabric together, it is worth the same per yard as the new fabric that needs to be cut up!
DeleteMary from Canada here, we've stopped traveling for the day and holed up in a hotel. Hand Sewing my 6" asters that is my traveling project.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, Please don't feel like the "poor" girl next door. I have sewed a lot of quilts with new fabric all from one collection and now feel like they are very boring. Love, love all your scrappy quilts and am working on turning my friends onto "Leaders & Enders" and your scrappy quilts. Keep it up Girl!!! Beth in MN
ReplyDeleteI MUCH prefer your quilts with how interesting the fabrics are and all the memories than a few fabrics.
ReplyDeleteWHAT TIME Halloween should we look for the fabric colors?
I'm cutting spool blocks out this evening. I took 3 cardboard decorative boxes of scraps and made one today for spools!
Lucy~
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteWet and wild here in Maine. Working on Purple Mountain Majeties, actually Scrappy mountain for a class next January. It is coming along fine, but had to take a break to go to South Caolina. Stopped by Mary Jo's WOW!!!! Had to buy some cheddar of course.
Ramona from wet and wild Maine
Hello from Ontario. The storm is just hitting us, very windy and rainy. I enjoyed watching your Orca Bay last year and may just have to watch again this year, too many other things on my plate. I enjoyed quiltcam tonight doing a little English Paper Piecing in my pjs.
ReplyDeleteYay! can't wait for the mystery! This will be my 2nd mystery ever .I did Roll,Roll Cotton Boll and loved it. It's not quilted yet because I hand quilt mostly. However ,I've been practising my machine quilting a lot lately.I think I may be just brave enough to give it a go .....or else I'm just really want to have that quilt on my bed . Beth
ReplyDeleteDear Bonnie, Your quilts glow with such a richness in the variety of the scraps! Please do not feel like your quilt is a poor hand-me-down. It is a different gendre than a matchy-upy quilt. Your suberb designs and fabulous color sense make your quilts more interesting to look at.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's ok to feel secondhand. Remember Cinderella gets the prince ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, it's Mary from Canada, stopped traveling for the night, still not hitting the bad weather. Was working on my 6"asters but getting too tired.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a beautiful quilt!! Can't wait for the mystery quilt to begin, going to join in this time around. Love watching quilt cam. You are such an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt on the frame is beautiful Bonnie as are all of your quilts...
ReplyDeleteThank-you for taking the time to do the QuiltCam, I enjoy it very much!!
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying quilt cam. I always believe that scrap quilts looks so much more interesting that quilts made from all one line. They are also much more versatile in terms of where you can put them.
Bonnie:
ReplyDeletePeople I know who buy matchy-matchy kits tend to be insecure about their color sense. You teach people to love the way scraps go together.
Thank you for your time for quilt cam-enjoyed it so much! Your "vintage and reworked fabric" quilts are just as interesting and way more fun than a "preplanned" one! I have taken my scraps to workshops and, in one, the gal behind me had dyed to match fabrics-talk about an inferiority complex! When all the blocks were placed on the wall for everyone to see, it was hard to tell which one was from the dyed to match and which was from the scraps. Everything played together very well-so will not worry about dyed-to-match fabrics anymore. I LOVE my scraps!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, Your design wall looks wonderful! I occasionally use pins on my design wall. It's Warm n Natural batting. It's about 10 yrs. old, and has had a lot of use----Enjoy your new remodeled sewing space!
ReplyDeleteWow, now I see (the border) You do not want to take that off, no way! Dang it is hard to get the momentum going again, is all! I know you can do it! We'll be your cheering section, how 'bout that?! lol
ReplyDeleteOh my I tried very hard to make a 3 fabric baby quilt once. Had lovely new fabric that went together very nicely. Was rabbits infact. I actually had to give the partly made blocks to someone else to make for the donation quilt. I just could not do matchy fabrics. Give me the scrappy everytime. I am always so delight to find or be given some of the before 2000 prints that work in the scrappy quilts. I find the newer ones have patterns that are too big. Besides they do not look a bit like the quilts I love that my Grandmother and Great Grandmothers made.
ReplyDeleteDorothy
ahh man.. Missed it tonight.. I have been working on some crazy quilting and got lost in that. Catch you next time. :)
ReplyDeleteBonnie, you are making such progress, so fast! It's really looking good. I love your new design wall, and I LOVE the fact that those blankets were made in the USA!!! Can't wait to see your next posting and pictures! Oh...and I really agree with Deb about using SLIDERS. They work miracles with heavy cabinets and furniture!
ReplyDeleteLove your design wall - I never thought of using gray, but it makes all the colors pop, and I'm sure it won't look as messy as my white flannel design board, which seems to capture so many loose threads.
ReplyDeleteDitto to Eileen S's comment on using sliders under your heavy furniture. I now buy a new set of the smaller round ones to permanently put under anything particularly heavy. In the carpet pile you can't see them but if I have to move that heavy (heavy!) sofa bed, for instance, I can do it myself alone.
And, I totally agree with everyone about scrappy being better than planned quilts. I just finished 36 blocks of a quilt with planned fabrics and I was BORED STIFF by the time I completed the last identical block. With scrappy, each block looks new and fresh.
