Sewing some Talkin’ Turkey Blocks!

Williamsburg_April2014 023
This is Lorraine!  She came in dressed like this after my Mr Potato Head post YESTERDAY!  LOL!

I loved it!  Life is too short to be so serious all the time, and being just a bit silly is most welcome ---

Teaching classes sometimes has me face to face and seam to seam with some pretty up-tight quilters who are comfortable in their own pursuit of the highest level of perfection, and then I find myself getting uptight--worried that my classes aren’t good enough, results are not satisfactory enough for the level everyone is expecting of themselves --

And then in comes Lorraine who reminds us that life is about sometimes lightening up a bit before we snap from perfection overload….

Hahahaha!

This is beautiful Lorraine without the Mr Potato Head Getup!

This sweet machine is the machine that Lorraine learned to sew on at age 4, it belonged to her grandmother.  How special is that??!  I wonder if she got her sense of humor from her grandmother too?  It wouldn’t surprise me.

We had an awesome day ---and there were more vintage machines with us!

This is Bonnie T’s Singer 185J, named SHREK!
((With good reason, it’s very….green!))

This is Bonnie’s sister Barbara’s 128 Blackside!

We also had several featherweights in the house just stitching away with their own little distinctive  featherweight voices.

Talkin' Turkey, Williamsburg VA 2014

This morning is the monthly guild meeting and my lecture and trunk show.  I've brought quilts from the NEW BOOK!  So excited to share them with everyone.

Afterwards, we are in for a half-day Boxy Star class and I know that is going to be a ton of fun.

The adventure continues in Williamsburg, Virginia!

If you are in for some Yard Sale Saturday, head on over to Colorado Lady's blog where she is hosting today!  It might just be the opportunity for the perfect arm chair shopping for you!

I've hosted in the past, but life is just way too out of control for me to do that right now, I'm not home on a Saturday very often --and I've had to pass the torch on to someone else who wants to carry on the tradition -- go check it out!

  4. Some great vintage machines in this class. Love to see all the different colorways that your students have selected. I was very surprised to see the one block with black fabrics. Would love to see that quilt when it's finished. And, I love the lady with the Mr. Potato Head disguise! She must be the life of the party!

  5. Hey the first photo today kind of looked like those silly "Look at bad plastic surgery" ads!!! She is tooooo funny!

I dicker back and forth about making this pattern. The more I see it, the more I like it. Been stowing away red for the idea! Bonnie K. your quilts are addictive.

  7. I thought I could see something funny way in the back in a earlier pic of class!! I didn't want to say something in case it wasn't someone trying to be funny. (lol) Anywho what a hoot! Class looks so fun. Love all the pics you always have for us. OH and never ever worry about your classes! You are wonderful and not being uptight is the only way to quilt and to "be". :)

  8. If you think Lorraine's Mrs. Potato Head is funny, you should see her Toilet Fairy costume and wig! She facilitates 2 big quilting retreats annually at the Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center. Lorraine is a very giving person. Her calm, peaceful demeanor and great sense of humor help make every retreat a great experience. Lorraine is also Bonnie Hunter's biggest fan!

  9. And what machine is sweet Lorraine stitching on? She looks like she is a good friend to all she meets doesn't she?

Happy Sewing, don't doubt yourself just look at all your bookings!!!

  10. Kim, it does look like a Singer 128 to me, with the long bobbin winder up against the wheel, and the "inverted pear" shaped silver cover for the back, but I am just a beginner.

  14. Great looking class. I have a Singer 128 Blackside and this is the first time I have seen another one. I have been unable to find long shuttle bobbins that are actually long enough. The bobbin is actually 1 3/8" and I always end up with 1 1/4". Do you have any suggestions for a supplier online?

  17. The picture of Lorraine is adorable. This reminds me of a photo of my daughter when she was about 2 years old with the actual Mr. Potato Head glasses stretched over her head! Too cute, you are right, life is too short to be so serious all the time.
