"They Say it’s Your Birthday, Dah Na NaNaNaNa!"

This little cutie pie was sent to me by a friend this morning…isn’t she cute!?

At first I thought it was Shirley Temple ---but I'm not so sure.  Still -- check out that cutie-pie hand crank machine she is sewing doll clothes on!

Oooh.  I want one!

And because it’s my birthday ---I’m headed out for a massage..whoowhoo. 90 minutes of bliss!  I scheduled it for this afternoon because it was the best way to spend my birthday that I could think of…

Except for this:

I have a date to go meet this little lady.

She’s been on Craigslist for a long time…it keeps popping up and no one has snapped her up yet.

It could be because her cabinet is not in great shape:

Ahhh yes, the proverbial ever-present potted plant ring on the top says it all!  It’s hard to find a treadle cabinet that has NOT had a potted plant put on top of it.

I’m not saying she is coming home with me….but.  It can’t hurt to look, can it?

Especially on one’s birthday --- when it’s directly on the way to a massage appointment?

I’ll let you know more at Quilt-Cam time tonight!

Our winner of the Quiltmaker Magazine, Charm Pack and Seam Guide will also be drawn tonight!

Don’t you love birthdays?  I do!  Especially when they are mine!

  2. Happy Birthday
I would pass on that sewing machine.... only because I stay with round bobbins .....I have only one long bobbin machine is was my grandmothers and its a vertical feed Davis no feed dogs the needle/pressure foot move the fabric along its a treadle. So we could sewing machine shop together you'd have all the long bobbin machine and we could flip a coin over the others that interested us. Oh we'll not going to happen as I am in California and you are in well all over, ha ha
Enjoy your birthday today and enjoy each day as it comes

  3. I can't think of a better way to spend your birthday - I hope you have a great day! That cabinet looks the same as mine, right down to the potted plant ring. The cabinet has been sitting empty for 20+ years but I'm picking up a treadle machine head this weekend to fit in it - no thanks to you ;o)

  14. I saw a machine like that with those exact same decals in Lincoln City, Oregon. Unfortunately, the salty coastal air had made it rust up badly. I hope this one is a good find!

  17. I would grab that machine up in a heartbeat. Learned to sew on a treadle machine. My son and daughter-in-law are massage therapists, so it's pretty wonderful to get a full massage--birthday or not. Enjoy!

  22. I've been away and can't remember if I entered for the gift! Darn, if I enter again, I will cancel my chance right? Oh well....
I went to Edmonton, Canada to see Oprah! She was so funny! What a fantastic lady - she talked about finding your purpose and provided a few reminders that we often forget about as we get caught up in our everyday life. I feel so inspired!
Bonnie, I know you have found your purpose in life, it's evident in the number of fans you have! Have a fantastic birthday and a special year to follow!

  36. How cute is that birthday greeting your friend sent! Isn't it fun when they keep your collections and line of work you do in mind when they look for things for you? Ahhhh, the treadle . . . she might be my Mary's twin? I hope you had a nice visit with her, got a good price and hauled her prettiness home. We'll find out shortly won't we? We can always "make room" for a lovely treadle. You must rescue her if she's been languishing on your local Craig's List!! Can't wait to hear!!

  38. Hi Bonnie, I can't resist telling you that I have a little machine that is possibly older than the one the little girl is sewing with. I belonged to my aunt that was born between 1900 and 1904 and it sews chain stitch. It does not say singer but looks like one, being black with gold patterns on it. Still in very good nick. I also was given a singer sewing machine as a child, also chain stitch, hardly used I have to confess as even then already I preferred sewing by hand as I do all my quilts now.

  39. Happy Birthday Bonnie and I do hope you take that machine home. A quick sand and a finish and it will be good as new. Love the live feed on this blog, we have people from NZ, Australia, Ireland and USA all on at the same time. Waves to all
