I'm attaching the binding to Florabunda. Finally.
I have a collection of walking feet--and what drives me nuts is that every one is a different width.
In the past I had used the edge of my walking foot with the screw on seam guide and a 2 1/4" binding strip on my Bernie 1080.
The newer Bernies have a wider foot so my strip was too narrow unless I needle over on the Activa 145.
I have 2 different widths of walking feet for vintage low shank machines.
I think I just found the one to do the job---it fits Joe Cool and the binding is underway!

Your binding color is so cool!! I have been really trying to use 2 1/4 inch binding on everything, then the leftovers can be made into scrappy binding!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your purple binding! It just SINGS!
ReplyDeleteGurl, you ALWAYS using a different sewing machine ;c) I LOVES IT!
ReplyDeleteI too finally got a baby quilt done I have been working on and hope to deliver to the new baby very soon.
ReplyDeleteRuh roh, I don't have a walking foot. Do I really need one to put binding on my quilt?
ReplyDelete(I love your name)
DeleteI don't have a walking foot either. I've done tons of bindings without one. You just have to make sure your body of your quilt is tight against the binding strip as you're sewing. That might mean a little bit of tighter grip for everything while it's going through the machine.
I've never had a problem doing it that way.....hope that helps!
I also pin, pin, pin and pin some more! Sure it slows things down a little taking the pins out as you go, but at least you know it's not going to shift on you and you'll have a smooth binding when you're done
DeleteLOVE the purple!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the purple too!!!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading ALL your blogs- so lovely and positive AND the colours of your fabrics!! I love looking at the flowered fabric on the table- right behind you- and of course THE purple! wow!mariettagk55@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love the purple Bonnie............you couldn't have picked a better colour. Mind you, I'm a purple-holic, so I'm biased. lol
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the whole thing done!
I am wiping the drool from my computer--that binding color is to-die-for!!!
ReplyDeleteOoh-oooh that plum goes so well with all the yellow in your blocks. Good choice - Yum!
ReplyDeleteThe issue with the different width walking feet is why I love my Pfaff 7550....built-in walking foot. I don't know what I will do when it dies. All the newer Pfaffs I've seen are such huge monsters and I don't need all the fancy-schmancy embroidery features they come with.
ReplyDeleteBonnie - where do you get your "screw on seam guides"?? I had one once upon a time - have NO idea where it is - and haven't been able to find another one to replace it. I have tried other types and don't like any of them. I have a magnetic seam guide that slips and slides - a screw-in one that has a weird "jog" to it - and another brand new one that I'm hoping will work. (I'll have to post some photos on my blog.) Anyway - just wondering where you get yours - I'd REALLY like to get another one!! Thanks!! ;))
ReplyDeletePurple machine. Purple binding. Of course it works.
