Quilt-Cam 7/2/2014

20140702_203011
Hello, Everyone!

Yes, I know it’s crazy to work Quilt-Cam in when I have just gotten home, but when it is the right time it is the right time no matter what.

Tomorrow I leave for Quilt Villa for the 4th of July holiday, and I can’t do Quilt-Cam from there…I’m going to be there unti lthe night of the 12th, a good long stay, the longest I’ve stayed up there to date, so it would be mid-July before we could squeeze it in if we didn’t do it tonight..

Besides…I want to work some more on this spider web and this is the perfect chance to sit down and do it.

For those who asked, and just because you asked, here is the view from the OTHER end of the studio…I’m loving this Samsung Galaxy s5 even more the more I use it.

You can see my monitor down at the end of the room, it also doubles as my TV for sitting in my comfy chair and binding or deboning shirts, as I did this afternoon.

((The binding for the Cheddar Sampler is piled on top of the quilt on the long arm rail – can you see it?  It’s a grey/black shirt and it’s perfect!))

Because I quilted today, I could use another vacuum job, so don’t look too closely.

Ready to sew!

I’m stitching tonight on my 1950s pink Necchi Supernova Ultra!  Because I am string piecing, seam allowance doesn’t matter and I don’t mind the wider feed dogs.  If I am doing patchwork and wanting a good 1/4” seam, I prefer a straight stitch only machine.  I also use this machine’s zig zag function for stitching batting pieces together.  Isn’t she a fun two tone??

Click the screen below to start the feed, I’m so happy you could join me tonight!

  2. Is that a teddy bear Christmas stripe? I made Christmas stockings for craft fairs out of that in the early to mid 90s.

  4. Yay! I've finally been able to watch Quilt Cam live. Not quilting tonight. I've got a somewhat quick garment top I'm sewing to wear for the 4th of July. I don't know if I'll have it done tonight to wear to work tomorrow. But it will definitely be done to wear on Friday.

Have a completely wonderful time up at the cabin this week. You totally need and deserve it after all your recent travels.

Only 20 more rows and 880 more 21/2 inch squares to go! I am enjoying this process....you know it's about the journey.

  15. Hi Bonnie, morning to you. Funny about the heated seats, none here in Australia, first time I went to England I couldn't work out why by backside was warming up :)! Laughed when I worked out what it was.

  16. Hiya Bonnie! Thanks for having Quiltcam tonight! I'm sewing the binding on a quilt that was found in an attic dates from the 1980's and is anonymous. I'm calling it my "Lost & Found" quilt. But I wanted you to know that I had trouble getting onto quiltcam until I went to Facebook. Couldn't get on from the blog that I could figure out. The spider webs look great!

  17. Today is the last of our steamy weather for a while. We are going to have a beautiful holiday weeken. Only 75 to mid 80 and much lower humidity than we have been having. Sewing room will be much more comfortable. YEA.

  21. Bonnie, I get to watch a few minutes of Quilt Cam while I'm on my lunch at work. Has anyone heard of a vibrating shuttle treadle called Helping Hand? She is a 3/4 size machine, with the flat tension on the top of the arm. The only reference I can find to Helping Hand is in a Boye ad for needles for a whole list of different machines. Does anyone else have one? Mine right now is homeless, I'm going to make her a table and find a base. She stitches beatifully! - Norma

  30. Hi Bonnie, it's me contessa from Pacific Northwest... to answer your question about chiggers. Get Avon Skin So Soft. It will help. and I heard that don't eat bananas....

  31. Not my first time watching quiltcam, but my first time commenting. I follow your blog regularly and love reading about your travels. I just finished up quilting a baby quilt. I look forward to hearing you on Pat Sloan's podcast - I listen to her every week. I don't know how you find the time and energy for all you do, but keep it up!

  32. For bad chigger bites--Fill bathtub about 6 in. deep with warm water, use household bleach and just glug, glug, glug into water, maybe a quart or so. Use white washcloth and rub bites gently with cloth. Soak in tub about 10 min. scrubbing bite areas gently then pat dry with white towel so that you don't bleach anything you don't want to. Be VERY careful getting in and out of tub because the bleach makes tub very slippery! Next day the bites will appear very small and brownish spots and the itching stops almost immediately after you get out of tub. Works for me! From Arkansas country girl!

  33. You said tonight that you will be on Pat Sloan's radio show on Monday. I listened for the first time when she had Jenny Doan on. I hope to listen again this Monday. I am doing Pat's globetrotting mystery quilt this year and I cut the pieces cut for the July block this afternoon but the patterns are too complicated for me to listen and watch you and follow the directions at the same time. So tonight I worked on 7 - 9 patch blocks that are a block of the month at my local quilt shop. I hope to be at your workshop in St. Louis in September of 2015 and to meet you then. Thanks for all you do. Because of you I am contemplating starting a scrappy string quilt. I always have to think about things for a while before beginning.

  34. Hi Bonnie got here after quiltcam, watched the archive. Re:chiggers. DH said powdered sulfer woks. (?) I know my kids Boy Scout troop would put the sulfer in a sock and then dust their arms and legs.
    I don't like chiggers!

  35. Hi Bonnie

Missed Quiltcam as I was traveling between our first home and the up north cabin yesterday pm. I've yet to catch you live on Quiltcam. I do like to go back and catch it on the archives, thanks for doing that.

Best wishes for a wonderful time at your cabin, Quiltvilla.
You deserve a break from the hectic pace that you keep.
    Happy summer!
