Two Days and 600+ Triangles!

Mackinac_May2014 2111
This is Pat and Charlotte and our newly engaged Connie!

Maryland, Long Island and Pennsylvania all traveled to Mackinac Island, Michigan to sew up a storm and have a great time retreating at the Grand Hotel Needle Arts Seminar!

If you ever have the opportunity to attend this event here at the Grand Hotel, prepare to be pampered beyond your wildest dreams – the location, the staff, the food—all phenomenal, and so much more.

Registration for next year’s event will open in January, and you can find that info on the Grand Hotel website at that time.

And don’t let this year’s weather snafu stop you.  It was chilly – but we loved it anyway!  And last year it was hot and short sleeves and shorts weather, so you just never know, but it is always a good time!

Our class for the past two days was Scrap Crystals from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders!

Jill has 4 blocks laid out, deciding on sashing options!

Even our show and tell matched the room décor!

This is Pat’s Virginia Bound top from Scraps & Shirttails---greens and golds as a gift to a relative who’s school colors are also green and gold

She also brought in her Celtic Solstice top!

Perfect with that green wallpaper!

She topsy-turvied the arrow units for her border on this one, love it ---and says she has kept these as “just tops” until after this trip so they could travel easier with her.  They are now in line to get the quilting done.  Thanks for bringing them all this way, Pat!

We've had a Grand Time at the Grand Hotel!

The slide show below is a combo of the past two days – the girls really did get a lot done.  There may be only 20 blocks in this quilt, but each block has something like 98 pieces in it, so there is more to it than you think ---and they are well on their way after two days toward having a gorgeous quilt!

Click the image below if you can’t view the slide show on your mobile device.  You’ll be taken to the photo album for viewing.
So today we are packing it up and heading out.

The Hubster is on the 10am ferry along with my friend Jill ---they can keep each other in good company as they wait in Pellston for a short flight to Detroit where both of them have long layovers before heading separate ways, Jill to San Diego, and The Hubster toward home in North Carolina.

As for me, I’m off to Bloomfield Hills on the 12:00 ferry where I will be meeting up with the Great Lakes Heritage Quilters of Bloomfield Hills for a Lecture tomorrow night, and two days of workshops, heading back home to North Carolina ON Mother’s Day.

  2. You had a Grand Time, I see, by all the posts from you and Sarah Feilke on FB. I'm glad you found some warm gloves and a hat there. Safe travels and Happy Mother's Day to YOU!

  3. OHH WHAT A DREAM!!! The Grand and quilting with Bonnie!!! Almost too much to take in ;)

The more I see this pattern the more I like it. I have to come up with a special special quilt for another grandson -- who is pretty darn serious about the girl he is dating...and she for him!!! They both like blues and green!!!

  4. Everyone looks like they had a great time! Beautiful setting, and a gorgeous quilt. I just realised reading this post (yes I am a bit slow) that DH for you Bonnie is actually your Hubster's initials and doesn't stand for "Darling Husband". But I suppose he is both. Hope you both had a great time at the GRAND!

  5. Will you be repeating next year, Bonnie? I was actually on Mackinac Island over the weekend but speaking to a group at Mission Point so couldn't go to the Grand. Since you're one of my favorite quilters, I was really disappointed. I live only an hour away from the Island in Charlevoix (can you stop here? -- we have a wonderful quilt shop, Hearts to Holly). 6. The sign was "almost" correct...it should have said,"Classy Bonnie Hunter". Thanks for the tour of Mackinac Island, wish I were there.

  9. Wow, what a wonderful time you've all been having! Or should I say a "grand" time you've been having? The quilts are amazing...love the colors! Everyone looks so happy with their progress and you are such an inspiration, Bonnie! Mackinac Island is someplace we should visit. Maybe our 48th wedding anniversary which is in July. Thanks for sharing.
