Hotel Views and More!

Mackinac_May2014 199-001
At the very top of the hotel sits the Cupola Bar, a two story get-away perfect for the end of the day where we can sit and chat, and even hand stitch as we gaze out the windows at the view below surrounding the hotel.

The view is ever changing – a cloudy day will give the water a silvery hue while a sunny day will shine and sparkle making the lake water iridescent in many deeper bluer tones.

You can see the road toward town to the left – and another island in the distance

Catching a bit of the hotel roof, you can see that the view goes on and on!

Last evening the sun was shining, as you can see by the reflection in the glass, and the light was lovely ---

Ever wonder how freight is delivered?

Boxes are shrink-wrapped together on top of wooden pallets and transported by horse drawn wagon to destinations ---a sign of a by-gone era and a tradition on Mackinac Island.

Class is will going at full speed and blocks are coming together – I better get back down there, we are filling our last day full!

  1. Looks like your time on the island has been well used and enjoyed. Safe travels going home and I hope the hubster hasn't been too bored.

  3. Bonnie, now that you have been to the island, you will really enjoy reading The Loon Feather by Iola Fuller. Unfortunately not available as an E book though! Bummer....

  5. The pool in your view was built specifically for Esther Williams. She starred in a movie filmed at the hotel in the 1947, "This Time For Keeps".

  7. Thank you so much for sharing Mackinaw Island with us. My hubby and I were there many years ago but didn't stay at the Grand. We really loved no motorized vehicles and the beauty of the island so thank you for the trip down memory lane!

  9. Oh for the simpler times your trip has brought memories of. Yes there was more hard work to be done, but a lot less stress invaded our lives. And people seemed to have more time to spend together.

  10. So glad your having a great time. The last time I was on Mackinac island was a wedding, my niece got married at the grand. What a grand affair that was.

    Happy quilting,
