Virginia Bound, Sarasota Style!

FL_Jan2014 283
 What an AWESOME day!!

String piecing days are just so fun – and each project turns out so  unique and different – there is just no way to go wrong with string piecing!

We started the morning off piecing just the center kite section, working with our darker fabrics….and then we added the background areas!

The colors and fabrics were so varied, it was great to see each student excited about what they were doing!

There is just no way you can go wrong!

Well, unless you slice off your paper foundation as you are trimming your fabric --- and then out comes the tape to hold it all back together again!

And that brings about more laughter, and calls for chocolate!

Awesome Blocks!

I’m packing up for a flight to Mobile Alabama this morning so I’m going to get right to uploading the slide show!

Click the image below if you can’t view the slide show on your mobile device – you’ll be taken directly to the photo album.

We had a full crowd out for my presentation with the Friendship Knot quilters in Sarasota!

The time flew by so fast –and I can’t wait to come back again!

Pick up is in just a few minutes and I'll be off to the airport ---it's a gorgeous day for flying!  ((And yes, time for hexies!))

  1. Bonnie, ever since you brought it to our attention, it is so fun to see how often the quilter's blocks coordinate, even match, their outfit for the day. They DO look like they're having a great time.

  5. I should have crashed this party. I'm in Tampa, not far. It would have been nice to see you and see what everyone was working on. Have a blessed day.

  7. Bonnie, I really would like to thank you so much for all the inspiration the quilts you make are providing me with and all the fun I get to share while reading your blog!
I have been using your system for quite some time now, and it's really working good for me, although I might be a bit more of a scrap saver than a scrap user. But a couple of days ago I decided I needed something happy, so I emtied my 2.5" scrapbins, both squares and strips, and took out any scrap I found colorful och happy. I pieced them into four-patches and then into 16-patches and had a blast with the lovely fabric pieces, almost hearing your words "You paid the same for the fabric that no is considered scraps". Finally I combined them with black and white X-blocks and tomorrow I will begin quilting a wonderful quilt. I am giving the quilt the name "Thinking of Bonnie". Hope to be able to send a pic.

  9. I noticed it too--almost every one of the quilters in your slide show is wearing an outfit coordinated with her block fabrics! How cool is that!
