On Saturday evening, Kay took me out for a drive, exploring the Keys around Sarasota, in search of the perfect sunset!
I know that it looks warm, but Sarasota was still in the midst of a bit of a COLD snap for this time of year ---
And we shivered our timbers as we ran out for quick photo opportunities, our feet sinking into the beautiful white sands that line the beaches of the area.
I can imagine how this bride felt, when the day of her long-dreamed-upon wedding arrived – cold and windy….
Bridal party in the distance
You can’t see it, but the bridal party is posing for their wedding photos before the ceremony takes place at sunset….see the white canopy??
Her dress was swirling around her and it was SO COLD! Sunset was about 45 minutes away yet ---and guests were just starting to arrive.
BBBBBRRRRRR!!
Blowing and freezing!!
If you look closely over my shoulder, there was an Amish Family gathered on the beach! There is a huge community of Mennonites and Amish in this area, and it is always interesting to contemplate how different the life is down here compared to the farm lands of Pennsylvania and Ohio. What a life change it is for them. Some come just for the winter. Some live here year round. No horses and buggies are found here, but you will see them pedaling 3 wheeler bikes all over town.
Bright and sunny and SO windy my hair is blown completely back!
As the light began to change, the sun close to setting, we headed out to the jetties --
I loved watching the pelicans in the water!
Caught this guy about to fly!
And there she goes…down into the sea – the end of a wonderful day!
Windblown Kay and Me ---new found friends who will be keeping in touch!
I had a great trip to Florida – and now my Alabama Adventures begins!
Couldn't you just sit and watch the ocean for days? The tides are like a song in a dream.

It is very windy here today. I hope you stayed warm and enjoyed your visit. I hope you'll come back soon.

ReplyDeleteWe went to a beach wedding in Sarasota 2 years ago. But it was June and HOT. Lucky us . . .
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to see our Florida sunset on the Gulf of Mexico - not the ocean!! Sunsets get even more beautiful for minutes after the sun sinks below the horizon.
ReplyDeleteI really miss sinking my feet into the beautiful white sands of home! I grew up just south of there in Naples and have been gone since the 70's. I really miss the beach, but not the heat.
ReplyDeleteLooks gorgeous! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMinus 2 degrees here in the upper mid west.
Looks like you are having a great time.
