More San Antonio Walking!

SanAntonio_TX2014 045
I mentioned last week that my Dad and I had both gotten fitbits to track our activity.  It’s not as easy to get to 10,000 steps per day as I thought it would!

I am staying with my friend Irene while in San Antonio – so great to have girlfriend time!  ((And access to her sewing room, her washing machine, and home cooked food!)) and I told her about my trying to get in more steps, so after our riverboat cruise, we put our feet to the pavement and just kept walking.

I love the old buildings in downtown San Antonio.  It’s just a great place to be for just what we were doing….enjoying being outside!

We eventually found ourselves at San Fernando Cathedral, founded in 1731 and the final resting place of the remains of Davy Crockett, William Travis, and Jim Bowie.

The cathedral is the OLDEST Cathedral in the United States!

See the medallion in the center of the circle?

It marks the official center of San Antonio!

The Cathedral is beautiful ---and I took many photos, so I’m uploading them into a slide show here.  Click the image below if you can’t view the slide show on your mobile device.  You’ll be taken to the photo album for viewing.

  3. I have to work hard to get 10,000 steps, especially with a desk job. If you want "friends" on fitbit, I am janamcb or janamcb2000@yahoo.com

  4. Bonnie hope you have a lot of fun taping the TV show. Enjoy your time at home, bet you enjoy your own bed and family time. You deserve a few days rest.

  6. If you have the time the Natural Bridges Wildlife Ranch (or named something along those lines) is very fun, just north of San Antonio. There is a cavern tour and a drive-thru safari.

  8. Thank you so much for a glimpse into the historic Texas. We here in Tennessee contributed many of our native sons to Texas Independence, including Crockett and Sam Houston.

Smile that great Bonnie smile on TV and you will do just fine...as always!

  9. Today I heard that Fitbit Force has been recalled.

I use another type of pedometer, but I know how difficult it can be to get into the 10,000 steps club when sitting a desk. Long arm days are the best for me.

  10. I've really enjoyed the pictures of San Antonio. Several years ago, my hubby & I were on the River Walk for Valentine's Day. I absolutely love that place! Have fun taping TQS--I've been a member since 2007 and I know you will be a great guest!
Can't wait to see the show!

  11. If I remember my tour guide information, all mileage
signs to San Antonio are measuring the distance to the center medallion. I thought that was a pretty cool piece of trivia.

Enjoy San Antonio, it is one of my favorite places to visit.

  12. Learn something new all the time..as many times as I've been to SA, I've never been to that beautiful cathedral. Must rectify next time I'm there. I think I heard something on the news this morning about a recall on the fitbit (might not be the one you have). Keep having fun!

  13. I love Fitbits (well, quality not so much). Been wearing them since Christmas 2010.
It's fun getting the badges....childish but fun!

And it shows me that my "inefficient sewing setup" isn't so bad after all. lol My sewing requires lots of movement and walking.

    Happy stepping!

    :-)

  14. My husband has a thing about finding point zero in most cities we visit. That is fascinating that it would be in a cathedral. We have not found that before.

  15. Bonnie, if you're still having trouble getting to 10,000 steps: make sure the Fitbit is recognizing which arm it's on (dominant or non-dominant)--when I got that fixed on mine, it made a huge difference in my step count!

  16. OK, I'm officially out of it . . . what is fitbit?
