On This Christmas --

Those years of children waking up at 5am so excited to see what Santa brought while they slept are long past in my life.

This morning I awoke remembering the whisperings of my two precious sons gathered around the outside of the bedroom door just WAITING for us to wake up and come see --- waiting for Christmas to finally HAPPEN.

Now Christmas comes with much laughter and talking and gathering and movie watching the night before, and much peaceful, gentle sleeping in the morning of.

And I cherish this time of my life too – because I know it will not always be this quiet.  If/When grandchildren come I will welcome again the chaos of the season and the sound of small voices and running feet with open arms.

Today will be spent with family ---I have a yummy dinner planned and the discussion around the breakfast table is which movie to go see for an afternoon matinee --- a family tradition since the boys were little.  Right now it’s between The Hobbit and Jack Reacher.  We will see.  There is also relaxation in not over planning things -- in letting things unfold as they will.

I sit and listen as my husband and my eldest son talk computer programming and things far beyond my comprehension and I enjoy their relationship as adults together.  Their joking and needling of one another warms my heart too.

I plan to sit and stitch a binding with my feet up ----keeping myself out of the basement for the remainder of the day – being the only female in a house full of males…..

With family.

wish

Merry Christmas to one and all!

  7. I am constantly amazed by the clip art you find - always appropriate to the post - whether it's a colonoscopy joke or this perfect one of Santa quilting. I won't be at home all day, but will have my hexies with me!! Love you and all you do. Merry Christmas. Sue K.

Just came back from my parents, and it was quiet and pleasant in Haarlem! January 18th I will participate together with my mom in a workshop in the Sampler, my yearly present for her birthday. Looking forward to it already, such nice folks, but that I don't have to tell you 8^}.
Would think of making the quilt in the pic, looks good to me for next years' X-mas.

    1. The photo of Santa was re- created by a few girls and appeared on the over of the Canadian Quilter magazine. It was awesome! Appliqué, patchwork, trap unto were just a few of the techniques used in the creation!

  17. Merry Christmas! I vote for The Hobbit. Even though they took liberties with the book, it is an excellent movie.

  22. Merry Christmas everyone! I probably won't get to sew, we're hosting the family, though a small group this year. But I planned breakfast casserole and a cold buffet for later, so all my food prep was done yesterday. So I get to relax and enjoy the day, too. LOVE seeing the twinkly lights on our tree. Have a wonderful holiday!

  27. Merry Christmas, Bonnie! I have very similar memories to yours! Ours is only slightly different. We have 5 sons, the oldest is 23, the youngest is 3! So we had all of the excitement years ago, a few sleeping in years, and now excitement again! Our little one is still young enough to sleep until 8am, much to the pleasure of all of the other boys! This Mama, however, was up at 5:30, waiting for others to wake up!!!!! Fun times!
    Have a peaceful, blessed day!

  29. I am with you waking up and remembering the excitement of little ones waiting, waiting..... Was very relaxing not having a 6AM wakeup call from the other side of the door! Son wanted to know when I was going to the store to get his present out of lay away! Broke down and told him it was in the car-or he would have been up all night playing with his new RC truck. Right now the battery is charging and I know he will run it down several times yet today! Girls are at friends' houses and I have the whole house to myself-we will do Christmas tomorrow evening-too hard on girls having to make it to 3 different families' get togethers in one day-so I just reschedule and enjoy a quiet day Maybe get Easy Street part 5 into production-work schedule has prevented anything getting done yet! Merry Christmas, all, and to all a new rotary cutter!

  37. Hi Bonnie--wanted to take this time to THANK YOU for all you give to us quilters during the year. You are truly an inspiration to me. Because of you, your blog and your quilt cam, I am truly obsessed with SCRAPPY! I now own 2 of your books and really want to get my hands on one of your rulers!! I look forward to taking a class from you one day. I almost bought a plane ticket last week when I saw you were going to be in Portland in March (?), but I saw your classes were ALL full!! Oh and also, I would have been visiting my daughter while there, since I live in New Orleans and she in Portland!! Thanks again for your generous spirit, and sharing your time and talent with us!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Thank you for all you give of yourself and your family. Your memories recall to me my memories of Christmases past. Really makes me nostalgic or my kids would say, "sappy" but they're my memories and I, too, treasure them.
