Good Morning from the Blue Ridge!

This is the view I awoke to this morning….

There is a peace and a quiet here that I need.  It’s soul centering.  The rest of the world stops and I feel like I can actually think up here.

Yes, there is a ton of work to be done this weekend ---- the first thing on the agenda last night was to change out the bad gasket between the tank and toilet in the upstairs bathroom.  While Mickey was here…she called me down to her bathroom and said,  “Houston, we have a problem!”

Looking up, we saw droplets of water beaded on the ceiling.  Where were they falling? DIRECTLY onto the toilet paper roll hanging off the side of the cabinet.  That roll had swelled to enormous capacity!

When the roll couldn't hold it anymore, where was THAT dripping?  Directly into the trash can below it.

Miracle of miracles ---no water had reached the pine plank floor.  It was at this point that we found that the gasket between the tank and bowl on the upstairs commode needed replacing.  Water damage can be such a bad thing….we were lucky!  No drywall was harmed because the ceilings and floors are pine plank and varnished.  It was a minimal amount of water, and now that is fixed.

It seems that everyone and their dog in North Carolina is headed one of two directions for the Labor Day weekend – Either East to the coast…..or West…to the Mountains!  This was our dead stand still creeping crawling view as we made our way to Wilkesboro heading toward Boone:

Red tail lights for miles!

But we got here!

I will be deep in Mystery sewing mode…..I am so excited about our November Mystery ----and will be going full force on it this weekend, so if you don’t see much of what I’m working on, that’s why!  Just wait!  You will NOT want to miss this mystery!  Expect yardage requirements and colors by Mid-October.  First clue goes live November 29th!

Have a safe, fun and memorable Labor Day weekend however you spend it ---

Love from Buck Mountain,

  1. Good to get away, puts all in prospective. YUP lol, NC is headed to the mountains. Friends from Charlotte are arriving today here in the Smokies to visit with us.

Around here this is the last of the summer folks, then we get the Fall Leaf Watchers. Then ...peace in the mountains. But we love them.

Have a super relaxing time, you have earned it.

  3. We're some of the "going east" folks. Only hit creepy crawly traffic once, and that was because of an accident. I truly LOVE waking up to the sound of the ocean! ☺ Happy Labor Day, Y'all!

  5. We have the same kind of freeway on holidays here in Arizona, you know how I-17 is ;) I think it was worth your wait though, your view is Amazing, glad there was no water damage either, whew ;) Enjoy your time away and can hardly wait for the mystery, it's a yearly event for about 5 of us local Arizona girls and we've added a new one to our little group so hopefully there will be 6 of us up for the challenge ;) Take Care!

  8. Arughhh- mystery time! Easy Street was my first. I decided I probably wouldn't do another. Not because I didn't LOVE the dial product, or learn a ton, or enjoy the whole dang process. But, because I have Pfeffernuesse, two scrappy baby quilts, a flannel scrappy and a bunch of little paper-pieced squares and a dozen other UFOs. But now you're talking about it again and my resolve is dissolving! Have a great weekend-recharge!

  10. How exciting, can't wait for the mystery project. Wonderful that you are enjoying the peace of the Mountains. Also awesome that the toilet issue didn't cause any major damage and is no longer a concern. Enjoy your time at your mountain retreat Bonnie. Heaven knows you deserve it.

  11. So happy: you are enjoying your time at the cabin.
you did not have any water damage and an easy fix
you are working on the next mystery!
Easy Street was so fun...until I got it on the wall and even tho you warned us about those four patches being turned, it happened and I did not notice until I was 2 rows away from being done. There might be a little dyslexia going on, I can't fold a map either. lol I put it away. Took it out last week and spent way too many hours fixing it and now just have the 2 rows to go. Yeah me! At least it will be done before the next one. Bonus, it will be one Christmas present done.
Thanks for all you do and enjoy the weekend.

  12. You were lucky vis a vis the water situation. Water causes the most damage in houses according to my home repair experts, the guys from This Old House. Add to that the fact that you are not there all the time and things could have gotten serious very quickly. By the way, Bonnie, I have you to thank for my Duck Dynasty fetish. Somehow those guys have become endearing, if quirky. Oh well, there are worse addictions.

  13. Wow, that's a lot of traffic! Love the view, hope you have a great long weekend and get lots of quilting time in. I'm spending the weekend doing books, only because I'm behind and I really need to catch up and stay on track, our year end is only 2 months away... yikes where has the year gone!!

  16. Have a great "restful" weekend. We are hoping to retire in that neck of the woods. Is that how it always is come the weekends? Should I reconsider that local. Hoping for the rural quietness of the hills.

  22. I did Orca Bay last year....it was my first mystery quilt with you. It was really fun. I also made the String Flying geese quilt, 2 baby quilts and finished another queen size string quilt this last year. I LOVE string quilting. Have to say that the judges at 2 county fairs did not seem to appreciate the string piecing. I think they thought everything had to be square. I'll keep doing it, but probably won't take those projects to the fair. Can't wait for the mystery quilt!

  27. I live in Boone...and we feel the same way when everyone shows up here over the weekends. Our traffic is horrible. Looks like you had a wonderful view. Colleen
