But last evening as we returned to Sterling after classes in Soldotna, we came upon an amazing sight, at the piece of property right next to where our lodgings are.
A mama moose and her twin babies were feeding in and around the yard of an old forgotten cabin ---
We stopped the car, rolled down the window, and I shot this little video from the safety of my car seat – we did NOT attempt to get any closer….
Enjoy!
I’ll keep working on the photos from yesterday’s slide show as internet access and uploadability allow ---
Today we are headed to Homer for a bit of sight seeing, enjoying the last of a very quick trip to Alaska. Tomorrow evening ((Monday eve)) I fly home on a red-eye flight, getting into Greensboro sometime Tuesday morning. Wednesday will be catch up ---Thursday – I pick up Mickey Depre at the airport and Collaboration Celebration Winston Salem will be under way!
Those of you who are traveling to spend that time with us – I wish you safety in your journey – can’t wait for all 45 of you to get here!

ReplyDeleteI remember the first time I saw a moose, so amazing. My family live there in the Kenai area. Hope you are enjoying your visit and the long days.
ReplyDeleteWe saw a moose when we were in Wyoming years ago. I was driving our van and pulling our pop up. I pulled over and grabbed the camera and started snapping pictures. He was a big boy with a full set of beautiful antlers. I just loved him. Thanks for sharing your trip with us!!
ReplyDeleteGreat video. Do moose not have tails? Babies are adorable.
ReplyDeletei live here in maine and have never seen a real moose...only the 1700 lb chocolate one at the candy store....
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I love your updates of your travels. I've NEVER seen a moose real live and up close (or far away for that matter). Even though I lived not-too-far from the Adirondack Mountains in New York State and traveled the roads of Vermont ... nothing. So I thank you for this wonderful video. It was almost like being there! Safe travels home. Wish I were going to see you in Winston!

I just love the video of the moose family. So sweet!
ReplyDeleteLoved your video Bonnie. One year when my hubby and I were in Denali, we took a walk around 9pm (still light out in the summer) back behind the lodge we were staying at, we decided to sit in a clearing and just enjoy the peace and quiet, when along came a Momma Moose and her two babies. We just sat still and pretended we weren't there, she didn't seem to notice. The babies were trying to nurse and the Momma kept pushing them away from her. They finally just walked on past our spot, but we were so close, it was one of my most amazing moments in Alaska.

Always enjoy traveling with other people's photos and videos! Thanks so much for continuing to share!!
ReplyDeleteEven in western Washington state I occasionally see deer "up close and personal" but never any of the big guys like elk or moose unless we go hunting. What an experience!
ReplyDeleteDang Bonnie! Great animal video! We have traveled 27 days and over 6000 miles including Canadian Rockies, Glacier and Yellowstone and did not see a moose! I will be home Wednesday in time for CC! Bought my tri recs ruler last night at a Joanns in Grand Island, NE!
ReplyDeleteAren't they amazing! Here in NH I've had a momma and her baby come through my front yard and OMG even in your video its hard to see the size of these animals. The one that went through my yard, her baby was the size of a full grown horse. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible blessing to see these creatures up close! Thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteSO COOL! All I got was the butt shot when we were there.
ReplyDeleteThey are majestic creatures! Thanks for an amazing video... I can't believe how close you were to them!!
ReplyDeleteHow grand - so glad you got to see them. Just beautiful creatures....
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic!!!!! How exciting!! Each day I can't wait to read your blog. There's always something to delight the eye, tickle the funny bone, and spike my creative juices!!! Thank You!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! They sort of look like a cross between a horse and a cow...........
ReplyDeleteBonnie, So glad to hear you took the video from the car. Good girl! My husband and I were in Anchorage visiting his sister and stopped along the road to watch a couple of large moose who were feeding, and I took a couple of pictures. Unbelievably, people in a car on the other side of the road got out of their car and were starting to cross the road to get 'close' to the moose and take some pictures! We warned them to stay back. Moose are big animals and can be dangerous. They are awesome to see but at a distance. It sounds like you are having a blast! It's such an awesome place.
ReplyDeleteThankyou for the video Bonnie, I have never seen real live Moose before, only pictures. They are amazing creatures.
