Jen & the Little Monkeys!

JenHLittleMonkeys2
If you were to ask me what my favorite quilt blocks were --- my answer would be SIMPLY TRADITIONAL!

I love things like 4 patches, 9 patches, Shoo-fly, Ohio Star –and oh yes!  Little Monkey Wrenches that are easily assembled from scrap strips on hand!

Jen sent along a little email with two of her quilts, and since I’ll be lecturing tonight and there won’t be time to write a post, I’m shooting this to ship ahead.

Isn’t this cute??

She writes:

Hi Bonnie,
I am addicted to your Little Monkey blocks! They are SO fun to play with. My grandkids love matching up fabrics for sets & it's been a great opportunity to teach them about color & value. I sent a photo of my first one during the last Quilt-Cam. I'll include both here so you can see the difference.

When cutting the 2 1/2" pieces for the Civil War version I made them 8" long so there would be about a 1 1/2" to 2" piece leftover. I set aside my lozenges & used the leftovers to create a l-o-n-g chain that is 2 1/2" wide for a piano-key border.
The quilt ended up about 41" square - perfect for using just one width of fabric for the back. I finished it in just a couple of days & already gave it to a friend in our Stitch & Giggle group (the one who gave all the plaids at Valentine's Day).

Last night I finished binding my 9-Patch Split leader/ender quilt. I LOVE IT!!

Safe travels & big hugs -

  3. The Little Monkeys quilts are really great. I have to agree with Bonnie that the traditional blocks seem to make the best quilts, especially when you put a "scrappy" spin on them. Churndash, which is really similar to Little Monkeys except that it has skinnier bridges between the triangle corner blocks, is my all-time favorite. Love to see quilts from others. And, of course, from you, Bonnie.
