This is Marge!
Sweetest gal ever, at 84 she says she has been quilting for 60 years. SIXTY YEARS!!! And from what I hear, she has the stash to show for it.
Marge, you are my hero!
We had such a great day in our My Blue Heaven class.
You know, it’s not just about all of us making any certain quilt together. It’s about everything else that goes on WHILE we are making this quilt together.
I can stand back and tell when a group really meshes. When folks have been together a good long time and actually love and respect and enjoy one another.
When they know they can count on each other to be there through it all. When groups go on retreat and what is said at retreat and what happens at retreat stays at retreat ---you can just TELL when a group has something really special.
This group is special!
Cuttin’ up at the cutting table!
Having a blast while fine-tuning some skills!
Hooray for more scrappy quilty fun!
Things to love about My Blue Heaven:
The entire quilt comes from 2.5” strips!
Learning to use 2 basic specialty rulers that I can’t live with out: The Easy Angle and Companion Angle!
Three basic units we use all the time in quiltmaking: Half square triangles, Hour Glass Units from quarter square triangles, and Flying Geese units from a combination of the two.
Discovering just what works as a neutral and what doesn’t!
Loads of eye opening streamlining fun, and we shared it all!
You can find the free pattern for My Blue Heaven under the Free Patterns tab at the top of the blog.
And of course, you don’t have to make it blue!

My Blue Heaven, Clarkesville, GA 2015 |
Today I’m on my way to Cartersville from Clarkesville. I can’t tell you how many times I have confused these two cities with each other over the course of planning for this trip.
115 miles to drive today!
I’m meeting up with the Etowah Valley Quilters Guild for a presentation tonight, and a Midnight Flight workshop tomorrow. A perfect way to spend my 53rd birthday.
53?!?! How did I get here? And what a wild ride it’s been! And what lies ahead??
Have a great Thursday, everyone!

Hoping you have a great drive and arrive at your destination safely. Hoping tomorrow is a great birthday for ya!!!
ReplyDeleteOh gee. I live in Mt. Pleasant SC and seriously considered trying to attend the lecturer/workshop in one of these two Georgia towns. We have so few in SC. It was just too hard to plan time off from work because they fall smack between my son's 18th bday (last week) and my mom's 80th bday (next week). Big sigh. So far, looks like a good time had by all....even without me! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color combinations in the quilt blocks. Love the colorful 221s. First time I saw the lady sewing on the purple one, I thought the black light was the sewing machine and was trying to figure out what kind of funky/cool sewing machine it was...that is when I finally realized it was a black lamp over the purple featherweight. Lol.
Happy birthday. Have a safe trip. I would love to make a trip to Georgia but to a different part (Statesboro) and for different reason (to our granddaughters).

ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the pictures... in photo 16 there is a neat looking notions holder that is standing behind a beautiful machine in a flat desk top. Wondering if there is a pattern for the notions holder or if it was designed by one of your students?

The one thing to love about My Blue Heaven is FINISHING IT!!!!! This is one huge quilt! It took me a month of dedicated sewing time to make it but the recipient loves it. Now, let's see how long this illusion thing will take...since I can't seem to finish STEP 2!!!
