Showin’ and Sharin’ in London, KY!

KY_March2014 119
During our lunch break at our Love Shack workshop in London, Kentucky, we had a fabulous show and share of incredible quilts!

It’s one of my favorite parts of the day – I get to sit back and see what others have done with their love of patchwork.

This is a GORGEOUS antique grandmother’s flower garden, a very 1930s variation with “that green path.”

It is a “found” top, and has been washed to remove stiffness and stains and will soon be quilted – hopefully.  There are some uneven ends ---this quilt grew as the maker worked on it, and I think she felt that she didn’t know how or where to stop so she just kept going. LOL!

And did you notice the cute vest the owner is wearing?  ANOTHER Hexie Love, from a cutter quilt that had really worn spaces in the center and was unable to be repaired.  It was turned into a vest with the red hexie border along the hem.  I LOVE THE BORDER idea to set off the edge of the quilt…here’s  a close up:

CUTE!!

While these two examples were fro antique quilts, this one is a newly made one:

This is Jenny’s!

Jenny worked on this during the end stages of her mom’s illness – stitching every day.  She told me that her mom was an avid quilter and always wanted to be involved in what Jenny was doing, which fabric went with what, which flower went where, long after she was unable to stitch herself, her mother found great joy in watching Jenny finish this quilt.

Paula’s Dancing Crumbs!

She took her crumb blocks, and used the setting idea from Dancing 9-Patch to set them…what a great layout, and don’t you love that border?

Another crumb quilt, sashed and on point!

She even used crumbs for her setting triangles! LOVE THIS!

A Granny Square quilt, a free pattern from McCall’s magazine was so fun to see!

Because the squares are so small, she dug into DEEP stash and used up a bunch of old 1980s calicoes I here.  MY kind of GAL!

We had a great time with the Show & Share during class!

I’m up early this morning, getting myself ready for a Talkin’ Turkey workshop today with the quilters of Oak Ridge, TN!  It’s going to be another fun day of sewing up the scraps and getting to know the ladies who have come from near and far to play.

Remember that all weekend long, in honor of International Quilting Day, you can watch over 160 episodes of The Quilt Show….register for prizes, including a new Bernina 550QE for FREE! So head on over there and get in as much as you can over the weekend.  The free shows go through Sunday evening.

Happy Saturday, Everyone!
