Last night’s Quilt-Cam via Facebook Live was a wonderful way to spend some time while assembling a baby quilt “on-point.”
I’ve had questions before on how I do it, asking if it is possible to web it, but as of yet, I don’t work diagonally set quilts the same way as straight set quilts. The rows on diagonally set quilts grow in length until you reach the center row, and then decrease again, making continuous piecing a bit on the difficult side.
But I did have some hints and helps!
And we talked about pinning – or no pinning – asking readers to comment on their level of pinning compulsion.
And through it all, I got this top closer to completion!
And we got to see YOUR photos too! Before I get to those:
Come see me in Bedford, PA!
The dates are July 8,9,10 & 14, 15, 16.
You can choose 1, 2 or 3 classes, mix them and match them how it best suits you! Contact Mary's Quilt Shop by phone at (814) 310-2278 for more info.

Scrap Crystals in progress by Melissa S!
Melissa shared here progress during our time last night – Melissa, is that a vintage machine I spy to the side?
Hi Bonnie!I love how this is coming together! The blues and greens really sparkle. Great job, Melissa! The next photo I expect from you will be of the finished top!

Holy, Hexie Quilt, Batman!
Hi Bonnie,
I finally get to watch quilt cam live! I’m usually working when its on.
I’m working on hexies today, basting my 1/4” hexies for another portion of what will hopefully be a queen size quilt. I’ve made one section which was supposed to be a wall hanging but I enjoyed it so much I decided to keep going.
Yes, you read that right! These hexies are 1/4”!!
Megan’s Allietare top in progress!
I also wanted to show you my version of Alletiare. I made the centres as square in a square instead of yellow.
It’s still not finished but I’m getting there.Andee from hot hot hot Arizona dropped in to share two of her completed rainbow tops!
Cool as a rainbow Popsicle!
My rainbow scrap sampler from 2015 and my (your) Betty's Choice with Amy Skatabo's alternate blocks. We made double and traded. Sew fun!Betty’s Choice Blocks!

The top and these border fabrics are going up to the cabin with me today:
Oh, this is going to be cute!
I love making baby quilts!
My plan is for the rolling stone block to be a 2018 Addicted to Scraps column with Quiltmaker. After it has run its course, the pattern for this baby quilt will be added to the digital download section of the Quiltville Store. Please be patient, it’s going to take a while for all of this to happen! There are plenty of other irons in the fire for you to work on while this goes through all of the necessary steps to become a pattern.
In the van is my neutral string bucket – those are also on the list for this long weekend ahead!
And the hexie-star project for CHINA!!
We have just a couple of weeks left to sign up– we are in LAST CALL status for those who wish to join us. China is going to be an AMAZING trip, and it happens this OCTOBER, just a few months away now!
Click the CHINA tab at the top of the blog for more info. Also view my Craftours page here.

In January of 2019 we are headed to JAPAN! Fabulous itinerary as we tour this beautiful country, winding up at the Tokyo Quilt Festival! Click the Japan 2019 tab at the top of the blog for details.
Also in October of 2019 – we are going to AFRICA!! This tour is not on the website yet as it is more than 2 years in advance right now, but be watching for info on that one.
Bucket list trips, all three of these!
Speaking of trips – it’s time to throw the rest of the stuff in the van and head toward the mountains. I’ll catch you from Virginia!

Love the colors you chose for the Rolling Stone. I am a fan of high contrast, just love how it pops.
ReplyDeleteYou sure turned that Oops block into a great Quilt - almost Flimsy. My grand-saughter enjoyed watching QuiltCam with me lasst night. Thanks for sharing the future plans for the Caftours. I dream of going to England...it was my mother's unfulfilled dream.
ReplyDeleteOn your fliers for the upcoming trips, I didn't see a 'sewing class with Bonnie' listed. Are you going to do one, or is there no time in the itinerary?
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip to PA. In Bedford a must-see is the National Museum of the American Coverlet. http://www.coverletmuseum.org/ Across the street is an ancient cemetery with interesting monuments. (In case you have time between quilting and antiquing.)
ReplyDeleteI noticed that you often use different machines when doing quilt cam. Do they all have their own cabinet, or do you just swap the machines? I have several old machines, but I usually use them as portables. I would love the idea of just swapping machines in one or two cabinets, depending on the make of machine. I know they are not all compatible.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! Yes, that is a Bernina 750 Record. Gorgeous machine, all metal. She sews beautifully and runs Ok, but has a flat spot on the belt from sitting unused for many years. I bought it from a neighbor in a cabinet, for $30. It was her Mom's. Didn't love the cabinet as the machine really didn't fit in it well, so I'd like to find an extension table for her. I plan to take her in for servicing and then put her to work!
ReplyDeleteBehind her is the Singer 27 that I found on Craigslist for $100. Sews like a champ and I love using her.
Thanks Bonnie!!!
Melissa in Cibolo, TX
Thanks for quilt can last night. Wanted to watch you live last night so bad. Unfortunately my iPad didn't do live. Got on computer, but that was slower than cold mud! I have a box of garlic knots I want to put together soon, but probably not while we are in hot, hot, hot Las Vegas.
ReplyDeleteLovely colours. It's a great quilt!
ReplyDeleteoohh i'd love to see you at mary's but alas financially depressed...LOL! no matter, i'll be sewing up a scrappy storm in my own cozy nook....have fun!
