A “Get There” So Cal Journey!

airport
Some days are just for getting the there.

And there are days when that is “ALL” that you accomplish.

Coast to coast days are like that.  I was up at 5:30 am, off to the airport.

Sleep the night before mornings like this is NEVER restful.  I toss and I turn and worry and wake up and look at the clock, hoping I haven’t overslept my alarm.

I am fully aware on days like this, going this far, that one simple hiccup in the connecting flights department could have the whole day’s journey tumbling like the proverbial domino chain.

Just get me there.  I just need to get to LAX and from there everything will work out fine.

This is why, when going this far that I need to arrive a day ahead of a lecture, even if my flight ios an early morning one, and the lecture wouldn’t be until that evening.  One delayed or missed connection can throw everything into a tailspin, and missing trunk show luggage?  I have learned to come a day ahead in certain circumstances to avoid that kind of thing.

My thanks to son Jeff for dropping me off at the airport for my early day and sending me on my way, luggage and all.

This is how I roll, folks!  100 lbs of quilts are in the two big blue bags, my clothes and other classroom supplies in the suitcase I am holding on to.  My backpack contains my busy bag, my laptop, and other essentials in case I DO get separated from my luggage at any given point of this journey.  This is as light as I can go, and still have what I need to handle the week ahead in Southern California.

Settling in to stitch!

Long flights usually mean a couple of in-flight movies and quite a bit of hand stitching.  The border for the Eternal Hexie Project is growing one rosette at a time.

I must a say that I was doubltful at first, but I enjoyed the new release of Beauty & the Beast starring Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame.  I didn’t know she could sing!  And the movie was completely delightful.
lastword

An honest surprise was The Last Word.

Harriet is a retired businesswoman who tries to control everything around her. When she decides to write her own obituary, a young journalist takes up the task of finding out the truth resulting in a life-altering friendship. Stars Shirley McLain, and Amanda Seyfried.  Poignant and funny,  I give this one a definite thumbs up.

Flying into an LA with broken cloud cover!

I love seeing the mountains peeking up above the clouds in the distance.

The agapanthus bid their bright and cheery welcome!

Spotted on my walk around the hotel where I am staying.

I know they grow like weeds in California, but they do not grow near me in North Carolina and they are a happy sight to see. My favorite from growing up in San Jose.

A late afternoon nap, a dinner out with a couple of the board ladies, and some settling in trying to stay awake long enough that I didn’t fid myself up at 3am California time.

That was my day ---enough to make it full.

Border progress!

At this rate this border may NEVER be complete, but I keep plugging along on it during airplane/hotel time.  I don’t have that many free evenings here this week, so I didn’t pack a machine piecing project, nor ask for a machine to borrow for my room.  Handwork it is.

Today we are full to bursting in a My Blue Heaven workshop in Camarillo.  I’m ready and excited to meet these ladies!

OH!  And yes, we are OUT of the Simple Folded Corners ruler once again and I have another even bigger batch on order.  Hopefully those will be back in stock by the time I return home, at the latest early next week.  I will post when they are available again.

The gift-away of Catherine Redford’s Modern Machine Quilting book is in full swing.  Did you get your entry in on that one to win a copy?  The drawing will happen on Thursday evening!
Leave your entry on THAT POST.

  4. Just Breathe! That's what I'm doing this week. It's a stay home and get stuff done that didn't get done last week. Catching up on my Blogs and hoping to get in some Stitches after I pick my Strawberries. Love the Purple blossoms. Glad they evoke a good memory for you. The border is getting bigger. Thanks for the Shout out on the Movies, I watched the old Beauty & the Beast this weekend. I went to see the New one with my Sister, when it came out. I was pleasantly surprised that Emma Watson could sing. They chose good actors for their roles. Dreamy Dan Stevens...

  6. Bonnie, you know that the LAST never ending hexi did get pieced. So this one will to. (or at least that's what I'm telling myself on my version of Lucy Boston: Crosses).

    Have fun in CA.

  7. Agapanthus is one of the few things I miss from living in California. Enjoyed your photo of that clump. I also enjoyed the new Beauty & the Beast. I've never heard of the other movie, but will look for it. Glad you and your "entourage" all made it. Enjoy the week.
