Great Eats, Great Friends, Great Quilting Time!

As I hear of the predicted 111 degree heat wave headed for the Portland, Oregon area (Stay cool everyone!) I am grateful for the cooler temps we've had this week.

Can you believe our high yesterday was only 72?  Yes, the winters are bad, but cold is cold, and anything over 85 is just too dang hot!

Our gals from You & Two Friends, group 2 hail from as close as nearby Hickory, NC to as far away as Michigan with a bit of Ohio thrown in between.

And do you see those grilled chicken salads with strawberries and diced apple?  AMAZING! (And huge!)

And it is so great to see the design walls filling up once again with so much productivity!

I am loving the basket weave string blocks!  These scrap strips are going down, and aren't they gorgeous?

You'll find the free pattern for Basket Weave Strings under the Free Patterns tab at the top of the blog.  It's an oldie but a goodie!

I've been offering free patterns since the blog started in 2005 (And even before that on my website which has been going since 1997 - we're talking old school!)

One thing I keep reminding people - and the Free Patterns tab mentions this at the top of the page:

The older patterns are only printer-friendly from a real computer, not a digital device (tablet or phone) because the technology was different back then.  They are .html pages, not PDFs.

So if you click on your phone, and get a 5th grade page, it's because it is not compatible with mobile.  So head over to your laptop or desktop to print. Or get a friend to do it.

Remember, it's just me here - the only employees I have is the inn housekeeper - and I do not intend to rewrite things that have been free for nearly 20 years.  Thank you.

Super cute flowers - a Lori Holt design in progress!

Busy quilters on this side of the room too!

What a wonderful patriotic rail fence in progress!

Accuquilt Studio back to functionality!

My job yesterday was to cut 142 sashings - It was a stand up job, which the tailbone injury could handle so I went at it with abandon.

Most of these strips came from the hunks and chunks boxes that Carrie sent recently - I pressed the pieces, trimmed the hunks to the length I needed and then ran them through the accuquilt into the rectangles I needed.  All 142 of them.

The laying out of this project is going to have to wait a week or two.  It's too much arranging and sitting to assemble a large quilt top together right now.  But soon!

Instead - I did manage to sit just a bit and sew some Cabin Corners blocks into fours.

I love how these are coming out.  The pattern will be made available when the quilt is completed, so stay tuned on this one.

And yes - the "extra" margins of the neutrals from cutting the sashing pieces also go into these blocks.

Don't you love that scraps are the gift that keeps on giving?

This has become my favorite "just take a break from it all" spot.

Sometimes I just need to sit (carefully!) and watch traffic go by.  Just 10 minutes - that's all I need.  To get my head straight and to breathe in some fresh mountain air.

I love that the Hubster and Jason hung this swing here.  I hope it will be enjoyed by many for years to come.

It also has me worried about that 111 degree predicted heat wave once again.

To all my peeps in the PNW, stay in, keep that A/C on and stay cool!

Can you believe it's Friday already?  A few ladies from this group are headed up to hike to see the ponies at Grayson Highlands this morning.  I tell you, I'm really missing being able to do that.  Maybe another couple weeks and the tailbone can handle it?

Going up stairs is a physical hold-your-breath chore.  Going down stairs is not so bad. But that hike is steep in places and I know it would cause too much exacerbation.  So I will look forward to their photos and hope they love it as much as I do.

Tonight is also fire pit night - it's the best night weather-wise to do it, and I'm looking forward to that this evening.

Do you have any plans for your Friday ahead?  June is slipping by so quickly!

And before June runs out - we are going to throw some more fun in around here -

This is happening TOMORROW! So be sure to come back!

I received a package from Kim just yesterday, including copies of her new Simple Whatnot's II book for me to offer up as gift-away!

Did you know I have placed several of Kim's titles in the Quilting All the Time category of the Quiltville Amazon Affiliate Store?

And as it is going to be a busy weekend, I'm also plotting and planning with Gudrun Erla to do something fun during her Hey June! Quilt Along happening TOMORROW!

Are you planning on joining in?  Info on the Hey June! page at GE Quilt Designs. All of the links and stuff are there.

And don't forget - time is running out for this:

  1. I think most libraries will let you print out from online pages. It will cost a little something, but wouldn't be much.

  2. Last check we are expecting at least 15 days of over 100 degree temps, 112 the high. Last week it was predicted to be 117 so at least that isn't happening!! Walk early and stay inside the rest of the day is the plan. Wonder what I can stitch up besides trouble! LoL. Glad your backside is feeling better!

  3. I was looking for something on your free pattern page recently. Now I don't remember what exactly I was looking for, but when I clicked on the printer friendly version I got the 5th grade page. I just figured it was an old link that had expired or was broken and it didn't even cross my mind to ask you about it. Thanks for explaining what was going on there. I will look at these now from my desktop rather than my tablet.

  4. Busy week, so I just binged read the entire week's posts. I was struck with a memory of you getting started with the Inn, and the town folk giving you pointers on how you might possibly generate traffic to the Inn. And then there are ALL of these beautiful quilts hanging on the railing. Have the town folk caught on yet???
    Pretty sure they must have!

  5. I remember your web page before you started blogging. I also remember when you went to Amsterdam and first posted pictures of your visit. I watched it all grow to what it is today. I am amazed at what you accomplish.

  6. I am so looking forward to the free Hey June quilt-a-long tomorrow! The crib size is the one I'm doing. Not because I have any need for a baby quilt but because it's the smallest. My HOPE is that I'll finish up and have time to work on my orange Winter Blues before the next live happening.

Regardless, I'm spending the entire day in the sewing room! (except for potty breaks and when I need to use the living room floor to lay out the blocks)

  7. I for one am not looking forward to the heat. The county's emergency management emailed a forecast of 110 on Saturday, 113 on Sunday, and 116 on Monday... In the northwest corner of Washington State! I'm going to be imitating the Wicked Witch of the West... I'm melting! I'm melting! LOL

  8. Speaking of the weather...TX is roasting, has been since April. Blackouts have started and more are predicted. Previously lived in WA state and most homes never had central a/c. We relied on the low temps year round and opened our windows in the summer. This heat wave is going to be critical for so many. Everyone hydrate!

  9. So sorry about your tailbone issue. I know that discomfort. I even swallowed my pride and bought a doughnut. It helped some, but only time did the trick. You will find what works best for yourself. Glad you can tolerate a bit of sewing here and there. That swing looks like a wonderful place to regroup. We live in the Puget Sound area of Washington, so no sewing here till it cools down a lot. I just can't sew without an iron and no way will that be happening, haha. Take care, Bonnie.

  10. Working on borders for a bit smaller Winter Blues using leftover blocks from last winters frenzy of blue blocks! Also cutting blocks for Hey June QAL with Gudrun Erla. Life is good , yes a smile does give both persons a lift.

  11. Good Saturday morning Bonnie, I'm praying that your tailbone will continue to heal so you can get back to what you want to do. Your posts are uplifting and inspirational.

  12. Good morning take two. ;-) If I did it correctly, my purchase of an air fryer on Amazon via a recent blogpost should have netted you a few pennies.

  13. Our son and his wife flew in yesterday from Portland. They certainly timed their trip to Georgia just right! We are visiting them next month and will spend a day at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. Exciting! Then, in August, I get to head to Quiltville!

  16. Staying cool is on my agenda this weekend. In the PNW, many of us do not have AC. Fans have become as scarce as the unicorn. I doubt there will be any sewing for the next 5 days….we have our grandson coming over for Camp NanaPa. Such fun but exhausting.

  17. You know, I broke or cracked my tailbone giving birth to my youngest son in 1977. The doctor at the Naval Hospital where I gave birth shrugged his shoulders and said that it would "go away." Of course, it did go away, but to this day it begins to ache a bit when I have been sitting too long. It's a little early warning device telling me that it's time to get up out of that chair and move around a little. Which is probably a good thing. WIshing you less pain and discomfort for now, and please remember that the tailbone does eventually heal. I just wish I hadn't become familiar with my tailbone in the first place, as you probably do, too.

  18. Arnica gel, solanpos patches and icy hot have been my best friends since falling in January. May you heal quickly.

  19. A relative sent us a textmap of Washington state, Wenatchie was listed as expecting a temperature of 1104 degrees!! A typo, obviously.

  21. I grew up in Portland and now live about 20 miles south. I've always hated it when the temps get in the 90s. But, after it was 116º here, I have a whole new perspective. When they said it would be 98º the following day, I was so glad! Now the 90s don't seem like the enemy! HA!
