A Little Quilting Going On!

20160611_130701
This happened in between everything else yesterday.

I got the pinwheel variation of the H quilt in the machine, and by evening time, it was done.  With a little bit of Quilt-Cam in the middle!

It was really nice to sit in the afternoon for Quilt-Cam…..usually I am petering out by 9pm, but at 2pm, I’m still going strong!  If you missed us yesterday, you’ll find that episode linked under the Quilt-Cam tab at the top of the blog.

My plan – to finish the quilting, get the quilt trimmed up and binding on so I can stitch binding on the way to Kentucky this morning.  Or if I DON’T stitch it while flying, it will be ready for the driving trip we’ll have from Louisville to Cave City.  Or evening stitching time.  Whatever.  If it’s ready, I’ll find time to get it done.

Tada!!

How fun is this??

I quilted with a light grey thread, and used an edge to edge design called Whisper by Urban Elementz to quilt this quilt.  I love how it flows. Like the pinwheels are floating on the breeze.

Questions I’ve been asked…..when doing this kind of sashing, do you “Make sure all of the seems are perfectly straight across from each other?”  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?  You guys KNOW me well enough to know that perfection is not where the fun is.  I pieced the sashings, sewed them on, letting seams fall where they may.  They may offset each other just a bit, but this is a wonky setting anyway. It just adds to the fun.  STOP THE STRESS!  Just go with it.

If you NEEDED to make everything matchy matchy straight across the sashing, simply mark seam placement on the sashing strip so you can pin seams to your marks so they will fall exactly where you want them to, straight across from each other.  But I didn't bother on this one, nor on the H quilt because it's all about the wonky and fun with these two.

Deep pink backing and an aqua binding, label in the corner!

I’m ready to roll out the door this morning, minus a baggie of 4 patch parts that I think I left at the cabin.  These were for the blocks with the string triangles I’ve been working on.  I’m going to just go as far as I can, and either beg fabric to piece more 4 patches from students at retreat, or finish the last 9 blocks when I get home.  There is no shortage of projects anyway.  The Scrappy Mountain Majesties I’ve been piecing on the road is going with me, as is the tumblers.  There is plenty to sew!

Wallburg, NC Rush Hour!

Can you see I am the 4th vehicle back behind a TRACTOR!?  It’s high-farming time right now and you will encounter a lot of this on the road.  Just about the time you stop worrying about being slowed down behind a school bus, it’s tractors on the road. We are going about 15 mph at this point. No passing, it’s a double yellow line.

My delayed destination? I had called in an order for Chicken with garlic sauce to our local little really good hole-in-the-wall Chinese place in town.  Quilt-Cam and quilt finishing had worked up an appetite!

In other news!

Quiltville Quote of the Day!

Vintage Star Quilt shared by Susan during our workshops in Moline, Illinois last weekend.

I have a very special mom who always ends her Facebook posts with "See the good in the world."

I attribute all of my positive outlook on life to the woman who taught me this.

Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone!  I'm off to the airport...

  2. Wow, you pack a lot in one day!! I got my 4 large sections of a quilt together during quilt cam yesterday, and am ready to square up, and measure for borders this afternoon! I always feel like I am at a quilting bee when Quilt cam is on and I can enjoy your conversation, listen to your vintage machine hum, and see the photos & hear the stories of other quilters at the same time.

  11. Are you considering sending quilts to the families and injured from the Orlando shooting? I was just looking and have some tops that are done. I know you've coordinated efforts like this in the past...

  17. I love the pinwheel quilt but for the life of me, I cannot see an H. Where are the H's? Wish I could have given you a wave as you passed through my area. Enjoy Ky and Getaway. I won't be there this year but sure wish I could be.
