Exploring Split Nine-Patch, Kentucky Style!

This is a shout out loud to Jodi who is celebrating her 50th birthday on some beach somewhere and couldn't be with us at the KHQS Getaway Retreat!

We missed having you here, and hope you have the best birthday ever!

We only turn 50 ONCE so I am glad she is living it up and making some memories on her special day.

Yesterday’s workshop flew by so fast I barely blinked and it was over.

Some folks had to leave right soon after lunch as they had hours to drive across Kentucky to make it home, others were crossing state lines into Ohio and Indiana.

We were tired, we were exhilariated, we were so happy to have had the opportunity to gather with the Kentucky Heritage Quilters for a fabulous Getaway Retreat.  I know many will be back next fall!

Split Nine Patch!

Remember when this was our Leader & Ender Challenge a few years back?  How time flies!  How many of you still have this going on, sitting in a box somewhere?

Maybe our photos will help you to pull it back out and get it back going again!

We did lots of triangle cutting with specialty rulers!

Half square triangles joined to scrap squares and became blocks!

Friends stitching with friends was the best part.

Hi Irene and Sherry!!

Soon there were enough blocks to start playing!

On the design floor!

We pooled all of our blocks and set about to trying different layouts.  It was so fun to have everyone involved in trying all of the many possibilities!  You’ll find many in the slide show below!

I will really miss these ladies!

Today is a going home day for me, but I’ve got a bit of time to play as I am taking an afternoon flight.

I’m ready for just a bit of home time.  It’s been a great visit!

Quiltville Quote of the Day!

Vintage Tumbling Blocks quilt found in North Carolina.

Isn’t this so true?  And this girl is contentedly traveling home.  I’ll catch you from there.

Have a great Saturday, everyone!

  1. Whoosh!! My did your time fly in Kentucky. Safe travels home. Always enjoy seeing the pics from your workshops.
Hugs, Allison in Plano, Texas USA

  2. One of my all time favorite quilts! My leader/ender split nine patch helped to keep us warm this past winter. It was so much fun to make that I might just make another one! I'm glad these gals got a chance to get started on one of their own!

  3. NOPE, unfortunately my Bow Tie Leader/Ender kept me from starting on the Split 9-Patch, the Spools and the Lozenges. I loved seeing all the layout ideas. This is one on my Someday list.
Glad you had a fun time in Kentucky! Neil Diamond sing-along and all.

  4. Have a safe way home to enjoy the longer days of the year =^}
    Preferably: sitting on the porch!

    love from Friesland,

  5. Hi Bonnie, I love this quilt. Will add it to the to do list. I was wondering why you don't set up a design wall. I know you travel to classes and space is limited but it might be worth making the room for. Keep up the great work.
