While I was walking all over downtown Tallahassee this morning, I got a phone call from my youngest son, Jeff.
Now Jeff is a young man of very few words, and usually no news from him means that everything is going well. So when my phone rang and I saw the display screen read “Jeff Hunter” along with his mobile phone number I was a bit worried.
This is not the kid that will call just to say I love you. He is the kid likely to tell you “I told you I loved you last week, if I change my mind I’ll let you know ---“
His words were: “Mom, I think your machine is here.”
I asked where it was from….I was looking for a package from Arkansas. Yep, that was it!
I told him to carefully open the box and text me some photos – I was so eager to see!
His photos came to me one by one with the comment of “Yup. Looks like a school bus!”
I. LOVE. IT!!!
Can you believe THIS came from THIS:
She’s got a new snazzy life in front of her now!
As the saying goes, “Even an old barn looks better with a new coat of paint!” Here is some more lusciousness:
The spool pin needs to be put back on top..it’s off to the side!
Close up of Decals! FUN!
Even a matching foot pedal!
What a transformation! Next I think I need to save up and have my poor beat up 301, Ugly Betty sent in --- she wants to be purple really bad. ;c)
I can hardly wait to get home and see her in person!
Today has been fun --- I walked and walked and even took pictures in front of the Florida Supreme Court building. I wandered several antique and thrift shops, but no great machine finds or quilt finds down here. That is probably a good thing, I have a hard time leaving bargains behind :c)
I’m meeting up with the guild ladies in a bout an hour to grab a bite to eat and then head over to set up for my lecture tonight ---
Zoooom, there this day goes bye bye! So fast! Hope yours was wonderful ---
Bonnie it is perfect. I love the color you choose. I want to do this one day, but will have to wait till I find one in bad shape to have it done. Enjoy your new machine.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! This is EXACTLY what I pine for -- a yellow Featherweight! I think I will tape a picture of this on a certain someone's computer with a note that Santa could bring me one for Christmas - LOL! Enjoy this lovely lady!
ReplyDeletedoesn't she look pretty - does the guy in Hot Springs AR do your work? I have heard of quite a few ladies here in AR that has him do their machines. I might need to get mine redone one day but I will stick with original look I think
ReplyDeleteLove love love it!
ReplyDeleteOOOOHHHH I NEEED (want) NEEEED (want) NEEEED (want) a fabulous featherweight.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you.... I really need to have a heart to heart with Santa about a purple one.

Oh this is much prettier than the school bus I drive.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. You know, I didn't even know you could have that done. This is very cool.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, Bonnie - AND the footpedal too!! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you send your machines in to have all these colors??? I NEEED to know! It is a matter of life and death! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, its stunning! How do they get the decals back on there? Cheddar on!
ReplyDeleteIs it possible for you to share the person's name and business number? I have a 301 that is a dream to sew with but has a very worn shell. What other colors are available.....but yellow is my favorite color. Thanks, Jane in PA.
ReplyDeleteWow, your machine guy does great work!
ReplyDeleteBTW, my son is a lot like Jeff. I would have been surprised that he even called!
DeleteBetter in cheddar, by far!! So snazzy looking!
ReplyDeleteShe looks absolutely beautiful in her new dress!!! That was so very sweet of your son to take all of those pictures so that you could oogle over them until you get home. Way to go Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh, she's sooo pretty I cried a little bit...I'm just that way!
ReplyDeleteI had to put my sunglasses on. Beautiful. Where do you get the replacement decals?
ReplyDeleteOhhh she is beautiful. If you ever need to find her a new home - she can come to Australia to me. lol.
ReplyDeleteHow Lovely of Jeff to let you know.
A cheddar machine! Just fabulous and you so deserve it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, thank you so very much for your earlier post on where to send quilts for Sandy Survivors; I was able to get one sent priority this afternoon.
Yippeeeee! It's so gorgeous Bonnie! I'm happy for you! You so deserve this machine!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your purple 301! When the time comes . . .
ReplyDeleteIt's cool that Gerald had the decals for you . . . but I loved your wispy flames on the other FW. Flames on the 301 perchance?!
And yes it was extremely thoughtful of Jeff to call you and then take and send the pictures for you. It is Jeff that you give credit for in your books for some of the pictures of you isn't it? He is a very good photographer. Was it also Jeff that clued you in about the lag time at the end of BonnieCam? He's definitely a keeper! ;-)
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful! Ow I want ti send one of mine.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! Hmm just got my quarterly bonus of $300, may have to send my featherweight, how do I decide what color to do it??
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying our cold front, Orlando is going to 45 tonight!
Well, she sure is purty! Have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, love you little school bus beauty. My son came through my studio and said " Mom, where did all these machines come from, I was just here and they were not." I just laughed and said I have had some a long time and some are new. More is always better when it comes to my toys. I know you feel the same. Want to find a Featherweight in need of paint job. Am looking. I want blue.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new paint job! Have fun with her!
ReplyDeleteNow that is one beautiful machine!! I'm so happy you got it. I hope everyone had as good a day today as Bonnie did and as I did. First thing this morning I got an e-mail telling me I'd won a bundle of fabric and Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks vol. 6. Woo Hoo! I better go check my lottery ticket....
ReplyDeleteSuch a perfect color for you to sew your cheddar blocks on, Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh.....I just adore it!!!! Lucky you
ReplyDeleteLove love love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat's her name? She looks like "yellow rose of Texas" to me. Would love to be able to just "pet" her!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got her back. "Cheddy Spagetti" is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh, He's definitely the Good Son Toady! She looks great. I wondered the same thing about the Decals. That must be figured in as part of the expense. You're having fun in Florida and not a Disney world!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I have a white one that needs painted. I'm leaning toward a green...maybe peridot. You should put a link to this guy on your page for us old farts that can't remember!
ReplyDeleteDid you get to pick the color for the decals too?
Deb
when she posted about shipping it off she had his info, so if you scroll back you should be able to find it :)
DeleteSooooo cute!! I am looking for some one to do over one of my machines as a future gift to a grand daughter, if you feel you can recommend this man could you please let us know.
ReplyDeleteOh she is luscious! I just love cheery yellow. I bet you can't wait to see and touch her. I am happy for you! Can't wait to see you sewing on her on quiltcam!!
ReplyDeleteLove your new yellow FW, she`s special. Are you doing a mystery quilt this year. I read on someone`s blog you had announced your fabric choices but I have read nothing. I have done every one and still have 3 to finish. They are just so darn addictive.
ReplyDeleteThat's SO cool!! Makes me want to send one of my machines in to be painted purple!
ReplyDeleteI never thought of my bus as cheddar before...lol
ReplyDeleteGREAT color ~ love it. You're inspiring me to have one of my FWs done ... now just to decide WHICH color .... what other colors did you consider?? Linda
ReplyDeleteYou are making us all so jealous. I love it. How fun. This guy does a great job and he will now have more business. Carolyn
ReplyDeleteSweet!!!
ReplyDeleteAww your little school bus looks really cute! I'm hoping to find a little featherweight someday at a reasonable price that I can have painted too.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! Can't wait to see you driving this "school bus" on quilt cam......
ReplyDeleteSeeing that makes me want to get mine out and paint her! She's beautiful Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see her in action!

OMG she is gorgeous! You have to do a Quiltcam sometime with your school bus! ALL Aboard the Magic Scrappy School Bus!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job he did and it does look like a school bus. LOL Even the same detail. Will you take this with you now or leave it home where it is safe?
ReplyDeleteThe decals look like the originals! How did he manage that!?! I'm totally in love with this machine now! Love love love it!
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful!!! I'm so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteI was worried when you said school bus yellow but she's beautiful more of a golden girl! Love the paint job!
ReplyDeleteThe new machine looks fantastic. I don't feel so bad now knowing that I never find anything in the antique shops down here either. I was hoping you would find at least something though. Looks like I will wait till I head north again, to start shopping where all the good finds are hiding out.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! What a cutie pie!
ReplyDeleteIs not painting a featherweight and restoring them the ultimate act of upcycling? So green!! Your machine turned out beautifully, the black decals work very nicely on the yellow.
ReplyDeleteWOW that was fast,it took mine about 9 weeks to get back. Didn't think I would like that color, but it is a beauty and I bet you can hardly wait the two weeks you are on the road to get home and see it in person :) so happy for you - she is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteshe's gorgeous! i'd have to add "95" in honor of dh's bus. ☺
ReplyDeleteGreat looking machine! And a wonderful son to take so many photos! I bet you are anxious to return home and see it.
ReplyDeleteYou were not kidding about it being yellow. I love it! Thanks for a wonderful lecture last night. I enjoyed it so much.

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Bonnie, your son Jeff is exactly like my son Brian. I do have a son named Jeff, but he DOES call and tell me he loves me. But Brian, who went off to college 3 months ago has only texted me twice. He is a man of few words and would totally say he loved me 3 months ago and if he changes his mind, he would let me know. My only solace is that he has a steady girlfriend whose mother I am friends with and SHE calls on a daily basis if not more often. So I know through her, that all is well. I just read your post to my son Jeff who is at home today and he said it was totally Brian! As Jeff left to go to the IMAX with his friends today, a couple hours away, I reminded him to let me know he got there okay. He said "Mom, I'm alive now, if that changes I'll be sure to let you know." We've created a monster< LOL! P.S. LOVE your machine!
