Porch Rockin' & More!

Summer seems to be making a retreat here in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia!

Some are even needing sweatshirts as they enjoy the porch for some late afternoon relaxation and rocking-talking.

I'll take it! When I hear of folks enduring 100+ temps and extreme drought situations - my heart goes out to them.

As you can tell, the Naughty Room Quilters are also enjoying every moment of porch time that they can fit in!

From yesterday's lunch and round of gift giving-and stealing-games!

And the cookies stole the show!

Yes, please and thank you!

As I'm editing all of these photos this morning the Hubster leans over my shoulder and says "You took all of these photos of COOKIES?!"

Yes.  Yes I did.  Because this is more artistry that I have EVER given to anything remotely edible.

Check out the tomato pincushion!

These are absolutely gorgeous, and it seemed almost a shame to eat them.

But eat them we did!

They were made by a retreater's friend who had never made "sewing" cookies before.  I can just about bet that she will be making more in the future.

While half the ladies were porch rockin' - this half was sewing up a storm!

I zoomed into this one right away -

Beautiful red!

I'll be sharing more project photos as things going up on design walls throughout their visit.

As for me -

Yes.  There was sewing!

And there is only one more block to go before I can start the layout process.  I'm excited to see this come together -

And just because this tickled me so much that I couldn't stop laughing at the irony:

"I just found this 250 million year old pink Himalayan sea-salt at the back of the pantry and it expired in 2019!"

So perfect! LOL!

Quilting into the borders!

I am SO happy with the texture that the hand quilting is giving to this quilt.  There is still SO MUCH MORE to go - I don't even know if it will be done by Christmas, but that isn't what matters.

Just put SOME stitches in every evening and it will get done in time.

Do you have long-term projects like this?

My Friday today should be more a repeat of yesterday. Spend time with the ladies, get some mail order out, spend more time with the ladies, get some sewing in, go visit with the ladies once again, and head home for dinner.

What do you have on your plate for today?

  4. Lol, my only question is how does Sea Salt expire? I would think it would be fine until it loses its savor... too funny it's lasted all those years and expires because it has an expiration date on it! Basically I think that's just the FDA wanting us to have dates on everything... bet those cookies didn't need an expiration date on them! Look yummy!

  5. LOL! I love that expired sea salt post! When I was recovering from a heart problem last year, my sister came to "take care" of me for a few weeks. She is a bit OCD and while going through my pantry, she promptly threw away about 3/4 of the contents, claiming it was all expired. Really, who throws away expired dry pasta, rice or salt???? I've defended myself more than a few times, trying to explain that, for the most part those dates are "made up". I'd worked in Product Development at a large, well known vitamin company that also made protein bars and shakes. They sometimes tested these products for degradation of taste by giving employees samples of newly made protein bars and 2-years expired bars and, since I liked the bars, I volunteered. There was no difference. And, nope, I didn't get sick. My sister just rolled her eyes and threw away another expired bottle of unopened vinaigrette dressing. I'm so tempted to send her that sea salt picture! But, sigh, I know it would only aggravate her. So, I'm just going to save a copy of that picture, just in case my pantry ever comes under attack again.

    1. Karen your post made me laugh out loud. I have the same exacerbation when my youngest son works in my kitchen. Since I can't do some of the bigger chores in the kitchen like I used to, my son and daughter-in-law help out from time to time. Invariably things are missing afterwards that I know I had, especially condiments I don't use as often now that I'm a widow. Anybody ever got sick from mustard a few months out of date?

  7. R and R for my Fri yay! I have to rest after a daytrip to Tri-Cities. Love the creative cookies. It's too hot to run the oven in the PNW this week. County Fairs and neck sunburns. Love this slow intro to Fall.

  8. Righty tighty happened just yesterday with screwing on the sprinkler. Strangely, that motion sometimes feels exactly backwards! Those cookies are amazing! I am glad for you that visiting with the retreaters is possible with your foot.

  9. Three things in your store cupboard which will NEVER go bad if kept sealed: salt, sugar and honey.

  10. Those cookies are amazing. The pincushion stole my heart. The Lady who baked them is really talented. Does she sell? If not she really should.

  11. Just came home from Home Depot trip and lunch out with my Mr.
    Might take a nap myself!
Kitty is a treasure and has grown so much in the one month we've had him.
No plans for the rest of the day except the football game tonight.
Wicked drought we're in. The lawns everywhere are dead.

  12. The cookies are delightful - still laughing here about the Himalayan sea salt expiration date... LOL!

  13. As we keep bees, and by law have to put an expiry date on the jars of honey we sell, I loved the post about salt. Honey in perfect condition was found in some of the ancient Egyptian tombs!

  14. You are not alone on the righty tighty, I mumble it to my self every time I need to turn something.
