New Sign Up - Blog By Email!

The past year or so things that we have counted on have been set to sunset mode -

One of the things that makes me really sad is that Blogger and Google are no longer hosting "receive blog by email" services that so many of my readers count on.

Months ago I was in a panic over your panic, and I was directed to Bloglovin by recommendation.

Over the past many months their service has been mostly non-functioning.  Links don't work, notifications don't come, and it always says their servers are overrun.

I am not one to go down without a fight, so - I've done a thing!

I am starting my OWN email notification list for new posts.

It will only take me an additional 5 minutes or so to send blog links to those who sign up for my blog notification list.

I am hosting this service on groups.io - the same platform that hosts our Quiltville Newsletter (See place to sign up for that in the right hand side bar of the blog, best viewable on a real computer.) and will post the blog link to those who subscribe by email on a daily basis.

Both of these - The Newsletter and the Blog Notification lists are ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY. They are a way for me to communicate with you, but are not chat lists for discussion. You won't receive anything from anyone else in your in box so as not to overrun you.

One of the other reasons I have bitten the bullet to do this is that notifications should show up in your inbox within a few minutes of me sending the notification so it will get to your inbox nearly in real time instead of hours later.

While I also post blog links to Facebook and Instagram, I know many of my readers don't use those services.

If this helps you great.  If not, you can unsubscribe at any time. The unsubscribe link will be found in the footer of every email notification.

My only other alternative would be for you to simply bookmark my blog on your device or computer and just make it a habit to visit me here daily.  You know where to find me.  I've been here for 17 years. Right?

Okay, now that is out of the way, let's move on to something much more quilty!

The hanging of the quilts!

And yes, I am actually ON the porch this time because the Hubster got to be step-in photographer.

While the walking boot has me a bit more mobile, it's still minimal - and uneven terrain is REALLY difficult - so I stayed up on the porch.

Suffice it to say we weren't ALL ready when he started snapping photos, but we'll give him a bit of grace on his best efforts!

Not yet, Dave!  We aren't ready!

Wait - you are missing some of us!

Not bad!  Pretty good!

We'll pretend like you didn't cut off the top of the turret -

I spy a nine patch, part of Jamestown Landing from String Fling on top of a Rhododendron Trail variation.  I love the Halloween and patriotic houses - if you know the pattern info, please post it in the comments section below.

Sand Castles from String Frenzy, a cute strippy baby quilt, Rhododendron Trail and Moth in the Window from the Addicted to Scraps book.

Scrappy Trips from the Free Patterns Tab and a beautiful Garlic Knots! I love how she has turned this into a rainbow of deliciousness!

Appalachian Autumn. Zuckerwatte from String Fling, the 365 blocks quilt, a holiday Irish Chain variation and Pineapple Blossom from the Free Patterns Tab!

And because the clouds were magical -

A view of the QPO next door.

Yes.  It is that close!

Such a lovely Frolic!

Just in time for fall around the corner!

I love how these big and bold leaf blocks are framed with strips log-cabin style.  LOVELY!

It was truly wonderful to have the opportunity to be ON the porch while these beauties were hanging off the rail for all passers-by to see and enjoy.

Everyone bugged out yesterday, making their way to their various destinations - some driving as far as California and seeing so many sights along the way.

Rebecca and Betty were the laundry queens while Susan came at noon after the masses had departed to work her magic and get everything ready for the August Quiltvillians arrival today.

Last evening when he was done with his work day, The Hubster and I went to town to pick up a lawn mower battery so he could take care of the yard before today -

And this is where I put in a trigger warning - if you don't like snakes, scroll quickly.

We arrived at the Inn about 6:00 p.m. last evening with the new mower battery.

My plan was just to relax with Rebecca on the back porch in the cool of the evening and discuss all things retreat related.
As soon as he stepped out of the driver's seat, he called me around to show me what he found at the base of the old chestnut tree - see left image.
As if that wasn't bad enough, as we loaded back up to come home, he showed me the that the black snake had climbed about 12 ft. up into the tree and was just hanging out on a branch.
I don't think I will be looking at these trees in the same way ever again!
Let it be said that black snakes don't scare me as long as they don't sneak up on me. They help keep our rodent population down as we are out in farm country.⁣
They also keep copperheads away, and that is a very good thing to know.⁣
Just don't sneak up on me!⁣ And don't forget to ALWAYS LOOK UP!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -
Vintage quilt found in Kentucky.

Sometimes we just have to stop and look and appreciate things for the way they are right now.
And sometimes life will surprise you as you simply watch things unfold in front of you.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

  1. I've used Inoreader for several years and I find it easy to use and reliable. I found it when Google discontinued Reader and I've been happy with it. There is a limit to the number of feeds you can follow, but it's pretty high so it's not a problem for me.

  2. I have you bookmarked and look forward to reading you every morning (except Sunday). I get the email notification for the previous day just after midnight so I delete that one when I get up in the morning. My favorite part is quilts over the rails and I love how you identify as many quilt patterns as you can. Seeing what others are making really keeps me inspired. Thanks for all you do, Bonnie, and take care!

  3. As I was part of the yahoogroups change over, I am familiar with groups.io and have been pleased with them, so I think this is a good option. I hope it doesn't create more work for you.
I appreciated the "snake" warning. Not a fan but also okay with seeing them, if I know they are there.

  4. The patriotic barn quilt is this year's Liberty Box from Fat Quarter Shop. No need for me to get an email.I sit with my coffee in the AM, surf several news sites to catch up on what happened overnight then to Quiltville and one other quilting blog, before starting my day. Your blog is my happy spot of the morning.

  5. Yes, bloglovin' has been awful for the last few months. I have moved most of my favorites to my bookmarks, including you of course. I love today's quote. I have noticed that as I age (65 next week) I am taking much more time to step away and look at the gorgeous world around me. Sunrises, sunsets, clouds, rain storms, mountains, beaches and so on, all on the list. When we are younger we are so busy we forget to notice the every day. It is easier to slow down and notice it all now. Those quilts! Man! So much inspiration.

  7. My morning wouldn't feel complete without your blog, so thanks for all the hard work to make it available on so many platforms. I don't like extra email notices, so when Bloglovin' started having problems, I switched everything I follow over to Feedly and like it lot.

  9. When whatever I used to use for reading the blogs I choose to read bit the dust I switched to Feedly. So far so good.

  10. If anyone knows the designer of the patriot house please let me know. I'm having a hissy fit searching for it online. LOL I have some men't shirts calling for this pattern. Thanks!

  12. I've had your blog bookmarked for about 16 years under "quilting." Blogs I visit more often are at the top. Bloggers that don't write daily are further down and I can look at those monthly when I need a work or life break. I tried the service that sent me an email when a new blog came out but it was always two or three days behind the actual posting of the blog and I gave up on that quickly.

  13. That looks like a very L-o-n-g snake!

  14. The Halloween House is a pattern from J. Wecker Frisch, Cabin Chills Quilt PATTERN P149. The fussy cut 'doors' are Riley Blake Old Maids. I found them through Etsy at Cute Little Fabric Shop, but they are available other places, too.

  15. I always have a time lag to get your emails. Not sure why. I found your site tonight to look up the last 3 posts. I re-entered by email before i read that you were changing your system. Hope the change works well. Glad to see that you are up and moving around. Lovely photos and quilts, as always!

  16. I wonder what the original color was that is now faded pink in the Vintage quilt under the quote of the day. It has certainly seen a lot of washing and wearing since it was made.

  17. I don't need the blog daily reminders as I have Quiltville in my often visited sites. But for those who do like the reminders I'm sure your solution will work. Thanks for always working to make things better for us on the blog.

  18. That snake looks REALLY long!!! How many feet do you estimate? I've tangled with copperheads so am happy to learn that another snake can take them on!!

  19. I keep a list of my fave bloggers on my own blog site, nicely corralled and updated by any new post. As with the others, you're part of my (nearly daily) routine.

When I saw the snake pics I had two words: "Oh! Cool!!!"

  20. Thanks, Bonnie, for your efforts to keep us informed. I was stymied on how best to keep up with the many blogs I follow, so I appreciate you taking on yet another role. I guess I may have to check out Feedly for some of the other blogs.
Tell Dave he did a wonderful job with the photos (we don't want to discourage any of his efforts to help out).

  21. Cool snake! I like seeing our rodent-control allies. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Glad you've found a workaround for the tech issues. I just have you bookmarked right on my menu bar. You're right there next to the biggies like FB and Youtube and Amazon. Half a dozen mega conglomerates, and Quiltville. ;)
