Xing Debut in Denton!

Yesterday’s Xing Workshop In Denton!

What do you get when you mix the sounds T with SH with CH and add a bit of Z??  XING!  Chinese is one of those things that is difficult for English speakers to pronounce because they use sounds that are not our norm.  Our tongues don’t know how to mix that all together.  You can call it TZING, ZING, SCHING or CHING and it will be half-way right each time.

But that’s okay with me!  Just don’t call it EX-ING!  LOL!

We had an amazing day yesterday with a group of quilters ready and willing to mix crumb piecing with the strip cutting of triangle pairs for star points with my Essential Triangle Tool – and throw in a mix of string piecing for alternate blocks to the mix.  They did SO GREAT!

Demo time!

It can be intimidating when you don’t know which way to go!

Tag Team Trimming!

Crumb piecing is one of those no-muss, no-fuss, no rules things.  Simply stitch random scraps together in a stitch and flip manner, and once you have reached the size you are shooting for, trim to shape!

You will learn what you like and what you don’t simply by DOING.  Allow yourself to make some mistakes along the way – you’ll learn how to avoid things you don’t want along the way.  It’s about PLAY TIME.

Busy ladies busy busy busy!

Aren’t these just WONDERFUL?!

And when they become star centers – WOW!

After lunch it was string block time – which everyone loved!

A whole lot, evidently!

Playing with Deb’s blocks for a layout assembly demo!

Wonderful job, girls!

You’ll find the rest of our very scrappy day in the video below.  Click to play:

All of this scrap piecing brought on a powerful hunger by dinner time, and we headed up the street to the Chinese Buffet - bring it on!

Such a fun group of gals!

Not sure what this has to do with ANYTHING!

Can we have a re-do on the fortune cookies, please? LOL!

(Things that make you go huh?!)

Last night’s round of Fancy Basket sewing.

For those asking where to get this pattern – this was my Addicted to Scraps block in the Mar/Apr 2016 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine, so check your archives.  My setting and pattern for the full quilt won’t be available until the next book down the pipeline is published.

Today we are at the machines again – up on deck is Sand Castles from String Frenzy!

Quiltville Quote of the Day!

It's been a couple of years since I have seen many of these ladies who are taking this week's workshops.

It's like no time has gone by at all and we are having a great time catching up.

Today, phone a friend! Not just text a friend or click like on their post, phone a friend and talk to their voice and make a plan to spend some real time together!

Have a terrific Wednesday, everyone.

  1. Thanks for the pronunciation lesson. I wondered. Sew scrapiliciuos. Too much white stuff. A phone call sounds good to catch up with a Quilty Friend. Chinese food is a Favorite of mine. Weird Fortunes are lost in Translation. Have a fun day. Maybe some of the Quilter's scraps can be donated to your Baskets production.

  2. Totally agree on those Chinese pronunciations! You should have heard us in our everyday Chinese language class. We had a very understanding teacher whose job was to teach us Americans some everyday Chinese words!!! I had a very timely fortune cookie once-had goofed cutting out fabric for a quilt block earlier in the day-my fortune was Measure twice, cut once!!!

  11. I have been saving my scraps all my life (well, since I can remember) and I think I got that idea from my mother... knowing I was going to make quilts someday. I love all the scrappy quilts ideas and am a huge Bonnie Hunter fan. Thankyou for giving me so many ideas for using those scraps up.
