A Scrap Crystals Day in San Antonio!

Singing “Back in the Saddle Again……”

I’m having a ball in San Antonio with a wonderful group of gals!  Our two workshops this week are being hosted by the University United Methodist Church Quilt Guild – such a long name, making it understandable why they simply go by UUMCQG for short!

Scrap Crystals from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders was our play date yesterday – and we had a wonderful time!

Chains of triangles  throughout the room – this was a busy class of 49!

Teaming it!

Triangles become “Baby Bears”

Baby Bears Become Mama Bears which finally are sewn into Papa Bears!

Beautiful blocks, ladies!

Beautiful!! All Around!

It’s just a simple 96-piece block, nothing to be afraid of!  LOL!

For the rest of our day’s fun click and enjoy the video below:

Did you get a glimpse at all the painted machines??

This is one way to start a workshop rivalry!

There is NO ONE more true to their school than a Texan!

This was just so much fun to see!

Of course, the Aggies had to get their word in, as well as some of the other Alma Maters – but it’s all in good fun, right quilters?  (Don’t make me send you to your opposite corners and sit it out! LOL!)

What a great group of blocks! So much fun variety!

Dinner for 36 at Mamacita’s!

Tex Mex and BBQ are the only things I NEED to find when I am in Texas and last night didn’t disappoint – for any of the 36 folks that joined us at Mamacita’s for dinner last night after the workshop was over.  We happily waited out the San Antonio rush hour while filling our bellies with good food, and our minds with conversation and laughter – I was so pooped by the time we finally got back to Queen’s Rustic Retreat in McQueeney that all I could manage to do was edit the photos for the youtube slide show and head right on up to bed.

Today we’ve got Wonky Wishes in the line-up.  Bring on some fun wonky star piecing and some string sashing construction for a day of color play.  Can’t wait!

Quiltville Quote of the Day.

The most important thing in any situation - keep your sense of humor!

Have a wonderful Thursday, everyone!

  1. I love the scrap crystals quilt! It's on my bucket list for sure. 😊 I love how they grow from baby bear to mama bear, then papa bear. How clever!

  2. Looks like a great bunch of quilters to spend time with making some beautiful blocks. Tons of fun had by all.

  3. quilt n quote appeared first thing! Loving spending the morning with you, Cats in Carlsbad CA

  4. Looks like everyone had a wonderful time, both quilting and eating! I recognize a few faces in the crowd.

Queen's Rustic Retreat is a beautiful place and Doris is a marvelous hostess. I've been there several times and hope to return soon. Have you visited her new quilt shop yet? Hope you have time to browse and if you have any extra time you should drive to Schertz (about 15 miles west of McQueeney) and visit The Scrappy Quilter for a little more quilty eye candy. Coincidentally, on Saturday our quilt group, Mary's Mavens, will be meeting there and we'll be exchanging Jewel Box Star quilt blocks.

  5. Fun to name the many parts of this fun block. Goldilocks would be so happy. You do love your TEXMEX! memories of eating in Battleground, Washington. HUGS form SE Washington.

  6. Just love these blocks they sure look awesome layed out on the design floor! Fabulous work ladies, your all going to have some amazing quilts.
Thank you for sharing the fun Bonnie
