From San Antonio to Rainbow, TX!

My first 2019 presentation -

With Straits of Mackinac as backdrop!

What a wonderful turn out we had yesterday for the UUMC Quilt Guild’s Quilt Show & Market!

No one can do a one day gig the way that this group can.  Vendor’s mall with a wonderful array of goodies of every quilty kind to a boutique with beautiful items made and donated by guild members, raffle and silent auction table, door prizes a plenty, and the hit of the day – the SCRAP DIVE!!

Scraps are donated all year long – and the table is full to overflowing.  Fill a gallon zip-lock bag for $5.00!  It was hard for me to show so much restraint!

Chairs are filling fast!  It’s almost time!

It was wonderful to see so many faces in attendance – this is an event not to miss, every odd-numbered year.

By the time I was done speaking – the food trucks were out front for everyone to satisfy every yummy craving -

Quilts in rows!

There were approximately 400 quilts on display – they went on and on and on!  And it was great to get up close and personal with the creativity of each maker.

Panning from here….

To here!

Beautiful Texas Mountain Laurel!

So different from its Blue Ridge Mountain cousin!

They smell like grape koolaid.  REALLY!

Long stretch of highway 281.

I left the show about 1pm and made my way out of the busy bustling San Antonio Friday afternoon – taking the back roads up toward Granbury to a little known place called Rainbow.

You know how the story goes – at the end of the rainbow is a pot of gold, and I’ve found it with a group of 15 other women retreating at Brazos House, so named as it sits on the Brazos River.

I experienced long and ambling roads through small rural towns – wishing I could stop at the Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls for their well known pie happy hour!  But I had places to go and people to see.

I did finally pull off at Hamilton, happy to spot a Dairy Queen which would have a restroom and a bit of refreshment to carry me the rest of the way to my destination.

Further into town I pulled over again – I LOVE COURTHOUSES!  And the Hamilton County Courthouse didn’t disappoint with it’s beautiful architecture and Texas flag proudly waving.

Hamilton County Courthouse.

I arrived at dinner time!

So happy to find this pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

Sewing Baskets – until 10 pm!

Having a great time – Tiaras and all!

Up early – ready to sew -

I’ve been struggling with the internet just a bit – hoping this will send, and we shall see.

If you hear little from me over the next couple of days you know why -

I’m sewing!

Quiltville Quote of the Day!

Calm. Sewing. Friendship. Laughter. Memories. Good food.

Maybe a nap.

But I doubt it!

  5. The first time I went to the show in SA the quilts were draped over the pews in the sanctuary - took one's breath away. Another great stop for pie is in Hic at the Koffe Kup Kafe - unbelievably tall meringue on their quite delicious pies. enjoy yourself and recharge. Laughter and sewing are great for the soul.

  8. Grape KoolAid--absolutely! It's so odd to be that specific about a smell, but there's no other description for the Mountain Laurel's aroma. I hope the crepe myrtles are giving you a show too!

  12. Wow, 400 quilts on display! What fun! I would’ve stopped to get a pie of pie for the road! Nothing like sewing with a group of sewlovely quilters! That’s Straits of Mackinaw is a show stopper! Just gorgeous!
