A Blue Ridge Mountain Weekend Ahead!

Good Morning from Virginia!

I made the great escape yesterday afternoon – barely missing the rush hour traffic that has gotten worse over the years in Winston Salem – I-40 begins to crawl about 4pm in both directions.  Those coming from Greensboro headed west, and those leaving Winston, heading east –

And it was a Friday afternoon which can make it that much worse.  Just a quick stop at Barnes & Noble to pick up a book Dad had ordered for me for my birthday and we were off!

All I had on the brain was a long soak in the hot tub and a good night’s sleep in complete darkness and silence.

No traffic noise.

No uncontrolled barking at 5:30am from the crazy neighbor’s dogs. (This story for another time.)

Just utter rest.

Not even any stitching happening – just pick up a smattering of groceries on the way, enough to see us through the weekend, and GO.

A Bare hint of morning sun.

Temps dropped into the 20s overnight – we are at a much higher elevation here and the difference between leaving Winston Salem in the high 50s, and arriving here last night at about 37 – Brrrrr!  It takes a lot longer for spring to arrive in Southwestern Virginia.

And it wasn’t until I was unpacking the groceries that The Hubster piped in to say “I forgot to tell you we are out of dog food.”  Uhhhhh…9pm in the middle of nowhere (We had stopped for dinner in Wilkesboro to meet up with friends Rick & Mona for dinner at our favorite Mexican place before heading the rest of the way up.) and no dog food.

“I think there is some at Quiltville Inn.” I answer.  “I hope there is, anyway – I vaguely remember taking some up there.”

“And when all else fails there are dog treats to get her through until morning.” is the reply.

Isn't this something like feeding kids a whole box of Girl Scout cookies and calling it a meal? #parentalfail

So this morning it is over to the Inn to check and see if there is INDEED some dog food there, and if not, it’s a 25 minute drive back to town to do what could have easily been taken care of last night while AT the grocery store. If I had known.

Studio time will be a bit delayed.

But that’s okay.

I will get to see what has been going on while I’ve been gone.  Just let me at those fireplace remotes!  “Flame up!  Flame down!”

And there will be more drywall ceiling to come down in the post office as we get ready to fix the roof and replace the damage.

So what if maybe there won’t be sewing time? (I am trying not to whine – really…..but but but but but!)

I am here and that is all that counts.

So many things are being planned on my design wall!

They’ve been waiting FOREVER!

And I think I’ll start here – when I can start.

I’ve got tons of bonus triangles just ready to frame these nine-patches.

The machine is calling me – but so is the look on Sadie’s face.

Dog food and the Inn first.  Sewing later.  Dang it!

And it’s all good – whatever it takes.  I am here in my happy place to spend the weekend.  More sun has come out, and I love it up here so much.  Whatever we get up to – the quilting will wait, I’m just going to be here and let it all play out with gratitude.

Try it again, Sam!

I wrote to the company who hosts my giveaways.  I explained the problem with a giveaway that was open to folks who do NOT have blogs of their own and “Couldn’t I just go back to the old way please?!”  I was able to reverse my upgrade and use a different code to take things back to the way they were when they WORKED.

Please visit yesterday’s post and try again.  I promise you will not have any problems.

I also insisted that giveaways do NOT need 5,000 thumbnail photos from my entrants and my blog didn’t have space for them anyway – they need a way to offer just text links the way it was.  I don’t know how long I can continue to use the old way, but I’m not willing to change platforms that will cost me $50 to $100 a month in order to offer FREE giveaways to my readers. Any “trial” formats I checked out would only allow up to 50 entries.  Pfffft!  We go through that in the first 10 minutes.

At that point, I’m likely to say “This was fun while it lasted but I am done.”  And I think you’d agree with me.

But for NOW at least – we are back in business.  Let’s have some fun while it lasts!  Enter to win on YESTERDAY’S POST.

And we will be up and running for Monday’s LAST Mystery Monday Link-Up for Good Fortune.

We will deal with next year’s Link-Ups (or not) when next year rolls around.

Quiltville Quote of the Day!

Love the happy ginghams & Baptist Fans!

If you recognize this life as precious and treat it as such, it becomes a treasure instead of a burden.

It's all in your point of view.

Have a lovely weekend, friends!

  2. Fingers crossed that the linky process stays as it was. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" sounds like a good philosophy. Since I have a blog, I got the new way to work, but wondered about all those who didn't have one. I also was surprised by the thumbnails that showed up. There are often 5000+ people who respond to your giveaways. Yikes! That's a whole lot of thumbnails! Enjoy your weekend! You have certainly earned it.

  3. I hope the Dog Food was found at the Inn. Sad Sadie would not be good. Delayed sewing time will work out. Nice blocks waiting. The anticipated Snowfall overnight didn't come, I consider it a Blessing. I'm so ready for Spring. Playing with a fun Butterfly pattern since Good Fortune is finished. It never saw the UFO pile! Hot tub sounds great!

  4. You could use Google forms to collect entrants and a random number generator to select the winner. Your probably would have to go back to the original post to remove the form to cut off further entrants at the end. I don't know if Google has a cap on use or not.

  6. Scramble eggs is what we use here when we overlook the dog food shortage. She loves it!

  9. The only thing about not being able to enter for your fabulous giveaways is not having the disappointment of not winning!! LOL There is good in everything for someone.
Enjoy your weekend and I hope you do get some sewing in but I know you will make it a blessed weekend no matter what you do.

  10. I have a possible solution to your "no dog food at the inn" problem. Send the Hubster to the store for kibble and you stay home and sew! Enjoy your time at your cabin and thank you for the joy you bring us each day!

  11. LOL about the dog food shortage.... that's what it's like when Dad is in charge!
Mine used to say that cake is fairly similar in ingredients to pancakes, so that's good enough for breakfast!

  13. We'd give the dog scrambled eggs too. You could always just use your comments for the giveaways, and the random number generator online to pick a winner. Rafflecopter works well for me too, and it is free.
