Caught in a Web of Stringy Fun!

20170110_152150
I met with the Thumb Butte Quilters of Prescott Arizona yesterday, along with some fellow quilters who had also traveled from other parts of the state to join with us in a day of string piecing fun.

It’s been a while since I have taught this workshop, and it always reminds me what a great pattern this is to use up scraps from strings, strips, and even small left over pieces & parts, hunks, chunks and crumbs.

You can find the pattern for String Spider Web under the free patterns tab at the top of the blog.

We spent the first part of our workshop going over different ways to draft this block, much as our fore-quilters would have.

If you love vintage quilts, study vintage quilts, you’ll find all kinds of different variations from big webs to little ones.  From square-ish webs to round ones, and it all starts with how wide or how narrow you draft the center kite shape that forms the center of the quarter-square triangle that the rest of the strings and bits are added to.

And even Halloween!

You’ll find all of the scenes from our workshop day in the slide show below.

After the day was over, I headed out to Glendale Arizona where I spent the night with my childhood friend and her family. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner, and watched President Obama make his farewell speech.  There was polite discussion of various points he made, even though we may differ.  This is what it’s all about.  sitting together AND being willing to listen to the other person’s point of view and even agreeing on things.

This morning’s sunrise!

Arizona has the most beautiful of sunrises and sunsets that I have ever seen.  And there is just something about the silhouettes of palms that just captivates me.

It’s my last full day in Arizona.  I’m heading back to Dad’s this morning, and flying home to North Carolina tomorrow.

I’m so glad I missed the snow storm back home!  It’s supposed to be hitting the 60s by Friday in North Carolina.

I timed this just right!

There are close to 120 entries in our Mystery Monday Link-Up for part 6 & 7 of  En Provence!  Come check them out HERE.  They are ALL FABULOUS!!

The Link-Up is open until midnight on Sunday night.  You have plenty of time to share your progress.

Quiltville Quote of the Day!

Self-pity also pushes other people away. Sympathy seeking is a negative habit, a tangled web best left behind.

Have a super Wednesday, everyone!

  1. I've started a spider web quilt. Had a bunch of scraps and decided that would be the perfect way to downsize my scraps. Using a white background.

  2. It looks like your Prescott classes were in the same room we were in four years ago when Thumb Butte quilt guild welcomed me, a total stranger, to fill a suddenly vacated spot. Yikes! Four years! But what good memories and great fun!

  5. So happy you got to reunite with a Childhood Friend and spend valued time with your family. The sunsets are captivating in AZ. Good to be in the land of Palm Trees when snow is swirling at home. Congrats again on the New Quilt Villa

  6. Bonnie, can I ask what program you use for writing your blogs? I have used Live Writer for years but it has stopped working for some reason, even though I have uninstalled and reinstalled!! I am also on blogspot so thought that you might have some insight. Thanks in advance......
