Box Kite Nebraska Style!

It was a Box Kite Workshop Day of ultimate scrappiness with the Omaha Quilters Guild!

When the weather is just nasty drippy drizzly and otherwise messy outside, where is the best place to be?  Pressing, cutting out, sewing up, and having a wonderful time with quilty friends from all over!

And of course if you have a purple machine, the world is wonderful!

Blocks a-plenty were made in no time at all!

Box Kite is found in the Addicted to Scraps book.

What I love about this little workshop – the blocks are simple enough that beginners can feel masterful with just a few skill builders such as focusing on UNIT SIZE.

All half-square triangles came easily from strip sets thanks to the Essential Triangle Tool.

Careful pressing keeps everything “in shape!”

Ohh, aren’t they pretty!

The entire quilt, including the inner and outer borders came from the same width of strip!  Quarter-square triangles for the border units were easier than they first appeared.

ALL from the same strip widths!  Sew so fun.

So happy Nel came to spend her birthday with us!

It’s her mom’s featherweight that I am borrowing this week – isn’t that great?  I get to keep the machine with me through all 3 guild visits, and return it when I’m done.

And the day wasn’t over by the time we were done. We had to rush to go set up at another location for last night’s presentation.

There are many many show & share photos to come – I think I’ll combine them from all three groups into one big extravaganza of quilty goodness and post that after I get home.

Today I’m on my way to Lincoln, and the International Quilt Study Center!  YAY!  There is a cheddar quilts exhibit going on. (Can you feel me vibrating with anticipation from here??  MY FAVORITE quilt color!)  

This exhibit goes until February, so take the cheddar plunge and see it if you can.

Tomorrow – new guild, new selection of workshops and another presentation!  Let the Nebraska tour continue!
