And We Say Farewell!

20151010_105236
I’m writing this from port in Port Canaveral!

We have just docked, and my shuttle leaves the pier at 7:30am so I have some time to get this written, and send it out on my mobile hot spot, saying GOOD BYE and GOOD RIDDANCE to really expensive wifi that was slower than dial up and takes 3 hours to upload a post!

But I’m grateful for it none the less, no matter how long it took for a post to go – it allowed me to stay in touch not only with the blog, facebook and instagram, but with family and friends far away.

Technology is still amazing – even if it doesn’t work as fast as we want it to!

Yesterday’s  workshop day for our Garden Party Quilt was a simple one – we worked on the pieced setting and corner triangles, making them out of our left over units and strips and squares from the alternate blocks we had made the day before.

We started the day off with a rainbow!

It was an easy peasy sewing day, and the chatter and laughter let me know that everyone did indeed have a fabulous cruise, everything they had hoped it to be!

Ole!!

Some of us took a leisurely lunch at the Sabor restaurant on board as a way to celebrate our week together.  Table-side guacamole and hand made chips were enough for a meal in themselves, but the rest of the food was just scrumptious!  ((And margaritas were top notch as well!))

After lunch!  Raffle drawing time!

This is our “Machine Guy” Scott!  He came to provide all of the wonderful Janome Horizon 8900 machines for our 50 quilters –

All through the cruise the ladies can collect raffle tickets from him if they see him away from our sewing room, at some place on the ship.  You see Scott, you just go up to him and say “Give me a ticket!!” and you get one, and another and another and another ---every time you see him.  Because at the end of the cruise, we DRAW for a machine!

Our lucky winner!!

She was so excited to have her number drawn, and we are all thrilled for her!

Celebrate with your favorite beer!

((It helps you forget all of the un stitching you had to do! Ha!))

Each quilt is going to be so gorgeous!

This one is Carol’s!

This is the OTHER Carol!

((We had three Carol’s in class, one ending in E!))

Michelle’s!

Wow!!

The pattern for Garden Party is found in the May/June 2015 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine – it’s the cover quilt!

Sunset through the dining room windows.

Our last dinner together aboard the Freedom of the Seas was happy and boisterous, and extremely tasty!  I’ve uploaded the rest of the class photos, and our farewell dinner photos into a slide show below.

Quiltville Cruise, Day 7 2015

The perfect end to the perfect cruise?

Deck  library over looking the promenade!

The library was mostly empty and we brought our hand stitching for one last evening of sit & sew and talked over the things we had experienced this week.

Oh, and this is funny ---Last night before bed we had to put our suitcases outside of our cabin doors so they could be collected and taken off ship first thing this morning.  We pick them up later.

I was sound asleep when I woke with a start to remember that I had left myself a clean shirt and socks and undies and shoes – but NO PANTS!  I had NO PANTS!!!

In a hurry we opened the cabin door to find that they were NEXT DOOR collecting THEIR luggage, so I was able to quickly retrieve a pair of jeans and get my suitcase out there before pick up.  But can you imagine what would have happened if I found myself in the morning with a shirt, undies, socks, shoes – AND NO PANTS?!

Yes, it’s time to go home and get back to my own bed.

That was a close one!

Our Shuttle will take us back to the Orlando airport, where we will board our flight from Orlando to Atlanta and on to home.

I'll catch you from there, everyone!

  8. NO PANTS!?? We know you, being a tall gal, wouldn't have been able to wear your shirt as a mini-dress. Would a bath towel or curtain panel from your room been long enough to wrap around as a sarong??? Just until you were reunited with your bags, of course. So glad you were just in time to avert a Lucille Ball moment!!

  9. What a great idea to use a towel as a design floor/wall! If I am ever lucky enough to join one of your cruises, I'll have to remember to bring one of my own along so I can just roll up my quilt pieces and bring it home. Have a safe trip home!

  15. So, Machine Guy Scott was there to fix any machine problems? Does he work for Janome? Or the cruise line? Very interesting. I hope Bonnie answers this question!
