Here they are!
The Quilt District Gals, enjoying life out on the porch - our first group of the 2023 season to actually have weather cooperative enough for us to eat meals without them blowing away.
What a difference this is from last year where it actually snowed while they were here.
Crazy times! But we'll take this!

While the weather was warm, I gathered up a vanload of wannabe hikers for a break from our sewing machines -
First timers up to Grayson Highlands to see the ponies!
(Remember it snowed last year while they were here!)
This day just couldn't be beat!
A bit breezy - just look at the crazy hair -
Taking it, one step at a time -
And then - we spotted them!
And they spotted us right back!
Nearly hidden in shadow - and munching the new spring grass.
Someone will be foaling soon!

If we were in search of a pony experience - we found one!

I love this spot. It is so grand for just sitting quietly and looking out at the distant view. Any problems going on seem to just seem so insignificant, melting away with the letting go and a few deep breaths.

There is plenty of time for quilting up a storm clear into the wee small hours if you wish - but taking an hour or so to stretch and walk and breathe and discover - priceless!
And thanks to the passers-by that offered to take a group photo!
Later that evening (after much sewing and dinner on the porch) we celebrated our first fire pit night of the 2023 season as well!

This was really a special evening for so many reasons -
I love witnessing the bonds of friendship within groups of women.
We've all reached the age where everyone is dealing with something that is heavy on the heart and mind.
Being together IS therapy. We need each other so much - especially as we age.
Along with the laughing and good eats, and boundless creativity - there is support, comfort, encouragement and lifting of one another.
As much as we love quilts and quilting - it's the deep bonds of friendship that mean the most.
My thanks to the Quilt District gals for allowing me to take part in their retreat and making me feel like one of the girls, too!

Oh Bonnie, I have a very troubled friend who is so weighed down with grief she needs to share- what she's trying to carry isn't her fault. We who love her hope therapy will help. I love the pony pics.

ReplyDeleteThank you for this thought today, it was very timely as I had a difficult day at work yesterday, weighed down by problems that aren't in my control. Love the ponies and your upbeat attitude!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the quote and the quilt pictured with it. I also love the idea of a group of ladies who help each other through life. The hike was picture-perfect, it looked like. Today in South Central Texas we are in the low 90's. UGH!! Tomorrow it will be just a little bit cooler, and I will probably be spending the day at the hospital with the mister while his mom is having another heart procedure done. ( Some heavy stuff going on there, so the quote hit home today.) Trying to steal some stitching time here and there to work on my Triple Treat and 4-Patch X. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the group! :)
