Creeping Down the Creeper Trail!

Seven on the Creeper Trail!  My first foray of the season - and the best break in the weather that we could have asked for.

Two days previous we needed parkas, hats, gloves, with morning temps hovering around 28f.

Monday on the trail?  70!  Leaves are appearing everywhere.  Dogwoods and redbuds were blooming all along our route.

17 miles from White Top Station down to Damascus - and we did it!

The over the shoulder selfie! LOL!

It's not easy keeping a group of 7 together - so if those in the lead felt they were too far ahead, we'd just stop to take a break and let the others catch up.

This was a leisure ride, with much stopping for photos - and I love seeing things through the eyes of others who are experiencing all of this for the first time.

Many hadn't been on bikes in YEARS!

For those asking - bikes are rented in Damascus, and a shuttle takes us up to the top and lets us off to ride the 17 miles back down to the bike rental place.

And here they come!

Every year this little spot catches me.

But that SKY!!

We hadn't seen blue sky in weeks either - Ahhhhh!

Another favorite "must photo" spot!

The caption on the sign with the "lodging" behind.  LOL!

Old log barn in the woods.

This spot is lovely - see the old house behind?

And more out buildings above -

And my favorite waterfall area!

So beautiful!

There just could not have been a better day to do this ride!

Well done, ladies!

Yes, we were masked inside the store.  Masks are off for the few moments we are taking photos. Masks are off while exercising or spreading out outside.

We wear these wonderful T shirts in memory of our sweet friend Jen who ordered these shirts last year for us while battling brain cancer.

Jen passed away before being able to join us on this adventure, but she was with us  - riding with each one of us in spirit.  We love and miss you, Jen!

This was a day I will always remember. I'm sure the Texas group agrees.  It was epic!

The printable PDF pattern for Catching Rainbows is now available at the introductory price of $9.00 in the digital patterns section of the Quiltville Store.  That's a 25% savings over the regular price of $12.00.

This price drop is good until May 1, 2021  (This coming Saturday!) when the price reverts back to full.

Today - A finish on the laundry, and anticipating a late afternoon arrival of The Scrappy Sisters from Tennessee!

How is your Wednesday shaping up so far?

Spring Green is happening right outside my door!

We hit 80 yesterday.  Crazy, right?  This morning it was 56 on the porch for my morning coffee, and I just enjoyed it so much - listening to the birds - hearing the sound of babbling streams as they made their way down the mountain to the creek below.

I hope beautiful changes in nature are happening where you are too!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Vintage quilt found in Texas.

How boring life would be if we were all the same. If every day were the same, if every experience were the same.
Embrace the differences!

  1. I'm still enjoying the peace and beauty of quilting central USA, Lancaster, PA. It's supposed to be in the 80s today! Lots of fabric shopping and watching Amish farmers plowing their field and Amish kids at their one room school houses. Ah, this is the life!

    1. Ahh, Amish country in Lancaster, one of my most favorite places in PA!! I have step-daughters that live in Wayne and somehow when we visit we never seem to get to the rural parts, a must do on the next few visits! Enjoy your" peace of heaven."

  2. Do you provide bikes and helmets for your quilters or do they have to bring their own? It looks like everyone had a wonderful ride through beautiful woods.

  3. Looks like a gorgeous ride on the Virginia Creeper Trail!! I’m so sorry for your loss of your friend Jen; it’s so sweet to have those shirts 💕

And hope for a beautiful week for your new group! Yes having different kinds of days add to life’s experiences!! There ARE some extra special days though for sure!!

I’m prepping for the only retreat I have opportunity to attend & I love it! It is in a neat lodge in beautiful Kentucky! Almost missed it because it is limited to only half the 20 ladies who usually attend; only 12 this year can gather because of Covid. Someone had to cancel & I was able to fill the spot!

    Blessings, Marci H

  7. Knowing how much you enjoy the outdoors, I am wondering is your area will see the cicadas this year.

  8. When I read the quote for the day I immediately said “been there done that” after the year of quarantine and COVID. There were days that were very much the same, like in the movie Groundhog Day. Today it’s Seaside, Oregon. We did Tillamook and Canon Beach yesterday. Visited my first quilt shop in over a year....now that was epic!! My husband was so patient, then he went to the car and napped! Enjoy your new group of quilters.

  9. How nice that y’all wore the tee shirts to honor a friend. I got a little emotional reading that. As for the masks, the CDC guidelines now say we don’t need them outdoors if vaccinated. I do feel bad that you have to explain that you only took them off for the pictures. That only makes sense, but I guess someone will call you out on it if you don’t explain.

  10. Thank you for the close up of the shirts... I had been trying to see what the said. What a sweet gesture for your friend. I absolutely love the outdoor photos you post almost as much as your quilts! It's nice to have a variety of days, I always take each day as it comes as far as weather goes. We have been far too stagnant here though; hoping for some rain. Well, today was succesful for me at school, and I hope to at least get one side of binding on tonight. Have a good evening and enjoy the new group!!

  11. Your friend, Jen, was the sunshine on your faces for the bike ride. How wonderful is that?!

  12. This is so much more than a quilting retreat...it just an awesome retreat for all senses! What a gem to find such a place and join the quilters! Memories made all around!

  13. Looks like a great time! I miss Jen and think of her often still. She was the best long distance quilting buddy a girl could have.

  14. I have several smallish sized pieces of the fabric your friend was running low on--cream with pink green flowers. Does she want it? sharon@sharonstroud.com. I know where the bikes came from because I read the blog and you had that information there, as well as in the comments.
