And On To The Next...

I have a big baggie of bonus triangles.

This bag was a gift from someone - I'm not sure if it came in the mail, or if it was handed over with love while teaching a workshop or giving a lecture.

Maybe it was sent my way with tongue-in-cheek as if to say "HERE!  YOU do something with this!"

They are fairly small - I believe they are about the size that comes from trimming stitch & flip corners on the diagonal after sewing.  Maybe from 2 1/2'' squares?

They are already right-sides-together - so - GAME ON!

And Lola says "Sure, go ahead.  I'll watch!"

The bonus triangles became hourglass units surrounded by scrap strips, and wind up again in the very corners of the blocks.

Oh, this is going to be fun!

I drafted this block based on a courthouse steps log cabin (loosely) and so far have named it Cabin Corners.

This will likely be another "long term" project. Size yet to be determined.  If I burn out on it, it could be a wall hanging or topper.  If I like it and keep going, it could be somewhere around my standard of 70'' x 90''. We shall see.

No pattern at this time - I just started playing.  No width of strips given - as I'm just playing.

But I think there may be some fun secondary designs happening when those red strips join each other!

This hilariousness arrived yesterday! LOL!

We've ALL had moments when we just need a break.  My family will now know when they need to give me that break and keep a wide berth!

This came through my news feed and I just had to have one.  If you want one too, you'll find them in the Quilt & Sew Wear category of the Quiltville Amazon Affiliate Store or click the direct link HERE.

Way to go!

Standing in the parking area at the cabin -

Hello, down there!

It already has made such a difference.  I just hope he continues to love being out there doing stuff!

You loved the Winter Blues quilt I shared yesterday - here's another!

This one is Amy Sheridan's!

"Instead of Winter Blues , Here Comes the Sun...my version in yellow and a bit smaller. Top finished, on to backing, batting, basting, quilting and binding!"

Well done, Amy! There is NEVER too much yellow!

Today's big outing is a vet appointment for Miss Zoey Jo. Shots, flea/tick prevention, and a pawdicure! Whoowhooo!

I'll be waiting for that 2 weeks post 2nd vaccination shot to get my own pedicure, and I can't wait.

Bring on sandal season!

Anything planned for your Friday ahead?

  5. Plant planning has overtaken my thinking time. I waited too long last year getting to the nurseries and missed out on things I wanted. This year I'm too early! Meanwhile just looking over spots where things might do well. Weather has turned toward spring and winter has lost its grip so outside is where I am lured to spend time. Some hand quilting on the deck seems just right. ♥

  14. I grew up on a farm surrounded by tractors but I cannot figure out exactly what the blade is for...are you leveling out the road, clearing leaves from the ditch, or ??? If it was winter I would say you had a dandy snow blade but I'm lost. Please educate me.

  15. My Friday Plans: Trim a pile of string units into triangles for sashing in Straights of MacKinac. One of my all time favourite quilts. And, I knew it would be when watching you build it behind the scenes on Quilt Cam. Was it back in 2018? The reveal was a wow moment for me, surpassed only when I saw it in person at The Grand hotel where the quilt was originally inspired. Thank you Bonnie!

  17. What jumped out at me first thing in your latest playing around with the bonus triangles were little cabins in the centers.
What made my Friday was hearing the good news that a new quilt shop is coming to town--can't wait to "support your local quilt shop"!!!

  22. My Friday started with dropping off a quilt to my long arm quilter, a graduation quilt for grandchild #3. Then errands; so many errands. :( First up when I make it to the Hen Den will be to sew a face mask with the mouse fabric that came this week. My older brother was nicknamed "Mouse". He passed away in February. Having a memorial service in 4 weeks and thought I'd honor him with a fun mask.

  27. Amy's sunshine quilt is awesome. I'm still trying to decide what color/colors I want to make mine. Hubby and I are in STL visiting son and family and celebrating youngest grandson's 3rd birthday.

  28. I love the yellow quilt. So pretty. I have been working on making my stash smaller, Swedish death cleaning. I gave myself permission to discard some fabric. I am working on sawtooth stars and am tossing the trimmings from the stitch and flip corners. I am surprised how freeing it is.

This post has so many "wow" pieces; Using those left-over triangles on the corners as well as the hour glass centers. the POPS of red, all the fun springy things going on and your energy as well as your husband using Big Red.
Thanks for an up-lifting segment on this coolish North Carolina morning.

  32. I made your Pineapple Blossom quilt in a class several years ago in greens & whites. My friend liked it so much and I had so many extra pieces, I decided to make her one too. Still had to cut extra blocks and strips, but I will still probably have more left overs too! Thanks for the beautiful patterns and great directions!

  33. I am collecting triangles but don't know why yet. They will all come together to make something wonderful at some point. It is fun to imagine. your cabin corners has some real possibilities. I like Amy's "Here Comes the Sun". When I saw it before I saw the name I thought "Gold Rush" We live in gold country and it looks much like what we see here.

  34. I receive your posting a day late, but they don't diminish in the happening. Seeing the different colorway for Winter Blues is very inspiring and I LOVE the new Cabin Corners! I need to sew faster! I am working on a Courthouse Steps variation for my nephew. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for being you!

  35. Oh! OH! Cabin Corners is going to be stunning. You're getting a really cool shape in the middle of the big block, where the color sections come together. You're right - the red strips are going to do something amazing. It'll be really fun to watch that one come together, however it evolves. Looking forward to watching the process unfold!

  38. Bonnie, thanks so much for this idea for bonus triangles!! After making several of your mysteries, I too have a huge amount of them. I turned some tiny ones into QSTs but was then at a loss as to what to do next. This is just perfect -- as I also have strings and bricks to make the strips. Love it!

  39. Hi Bonnie, I sure didn’t know what I was missing. I would just likely scan your post never really reading it until you posted about how you organized your fabric. Then I became hooked, I’m a fan for life. Love all the quilts and information. I’ve been visiting family and friends just got home this past Sat. Got my first shot yesterday. Figure I’ll get everything unpacked and put away then I can get back to quilting. Got my machine serviced while I was gone so now down to business. I ordered the tulip quilt pattern really ready to start it. Love scrappy quilts. Thank you so much for taking the time to post all the info you do.
