Smokey Mountain Stars

I've uploaded the pattern for the stretched stars quilt to my website. I've called it Smokey Mountain Stars.
because it has that feel of the rustic cabin we will be staying in for a week.......we leave a week from tomorrow! I better get some projects gathered together to take!

Here are some pics of the finished quilt. I finished the binding last night, and waited for daylight to take the quilt outside to get some pics. I love taking pics outside. The light is just so much better and you can really tell the quilting detail...even on a cloudy day like today where it looks like rain (and I could see my breath..it's cold!) the pics just look better when I can take them in natural light.

Today I've got a little gal from my class at school coming...she wants to learn to quilt, so I thought I'd start her piecing on some puss in the corner blocks (the uneven 9 patch kind, not the crazy patch kind like I've been doing!) and work with her on keeping a 1/4" seam, some rotary cutting, how to press to oppose seams, etc. I think it will be a good easy first project for her and will look nice when it is done.

  1. I love the new quilt..and yes, my plaids are calling to me also, but I think they might become Pineapple Blossoms..*VBG*

I got the quiltville mailings, and want to thank you for setting that up! It's soooo neat to know when you've put something new there.

I loved seeing your stash(those cupboards look fab!!..doors, no less!) and hearing what you've been up to for the past 20 months it's heartening. I don't have an obscene stash, but I sure do have plenty. Have decided I'm probably Quilt Enemy No. 1 with quilt shop owners, cause I just don't buy...well, occasionally a FQ if I am shopping with a friend. Sometimes I find perle cotton and buy that, so then I don't feel like such a loser...LOL.

Took me a while to realize that I don't make "planned" quilts. I start with scraps that I have(or one piece that calls to me) and go from there..works for me..*VBG*

Again, thanks for all your hard work with taking the pictures and posting the directions for us..*VBS*

  2. That is such a *beautiful* quilt, Bonnie. It's definitely on my 'to-do' list. When I finally get to it, ya think you could quilt it for me with those cool looking swirls and pine branches? :o) I love the name too...other than home, those mountains are my favorite place.
Oh...and your stash pics. THAT'S MY GOAL LOL! Seriously! I would *love* to have a stash like that. You've been at it for 20 years so that means that I have another 6 years to get to that point. *sigh* It's something to look forward to though!
    Thanks for the pattern!

  3. Love the quilting! Is that all freehand or do you follow a pattern?

And your stash, my gosh, girl! It's so neat! Does it always look this way?

  8. I LOVE both your comments on stash, AND the new Smoky Mountain Stars! I'm just this week getting the binding onto a chunky churndash, and then these stars will be next on my scrappy agenda.

  9. WOW you got that done quick....

My excuse is that I am waiting for the signatures....

Is that an all over quilting design? I am torn wondering how to quilt mine.... I am thinking SID - so that overnight guests in my home can also sign the blocks.... Then I ago back to thinking that I want this to be a record of who was at our wedding.....
