March/April 2016 Quiltmaker Giveaway!

Mar_Apr2016
Guess what is just hitting news stands?!

My envelope was tucked into the mail bin with all of the other mail from 5 days away at the cabin for my birthday, and I opened it thinking it was another squishy envelope full of grey scrap strips, and OH BOY!

I read the sub header of “Addicted to Scraps? New Block from Bonnie Hunter Inside”  And I got all excited…

And then I had to turn to the index to find out which one they used for this issue because I really couldn’t remember..LOL

Is it old age?

Or is it so many ideas of blocks and quilts dancing in my head that they are ALL new to me?

If you turn to my page you will find out!

Fancy Baskets!

Aren’t they going to be fun?

Each basket uses only two fabrics, light baskets on dark backgrounds for maximum color pop.  You will find the full instructions for making a whole batch in the  March/April 2016 issue.

And just look at what else is in here:

Sew WONDERFUL!

You know, magazines are still THE BEST source of patterns available.  The cost per each is just pennies when you figure the cost per issue.  I owe everything I am as a quilter today to those first magazines I picked up off of the news stands as a newly wed.  They whet my appetite for learning and creating and trying everything I could get my hands on.

And this is just ADORABLE!

Zoe Zebra by Deb Grogan.

I think Mona needs to make one for Carmen!

Sew Classic!

Chocolate Covered Cherries by Will Bennett, made by Ruthie Wasmuth.

Lemoyne stars have always been a favorite and I love how they dance in this rendition.  Beautiful quilt!  You will find this pattern in the March/April 2016 issue of Quiltmaker!

Quiltville Quote of the Day!

Everything that happens to us becomes part of who we are. Every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being redirected to something better.

And fabric? Fabric always understands! Vintage string kaleidoscope found on a trip to Paducah, Kentucky 2003.

Good Luck, everyone, I'm off to Texas!

  9. I got my issue in the mail box today. I love this magazine too, but it "seams" like it gets thinner and thinner every issue... I "ALWAYS" turn to the back to look at your block first. I just am stuck to scrappy, thanks to you! This is good as it keeps me sewing... the kits in advertisements I do love, but they are just too expensive and I do not think I can justify a accuquilt cutter, so SCRAPPY is perfect for me...YOU should be on the "FRONT" page!

Have you ever read the book Farmers wife sampler (ladies from all over the US wrote letters to answer the question, If your daughter was of marring age would you want her to marry a farmer why or why not, with a cash prize to the winners) or the Pony club quilt books? Now there's a prize to work for from the readers... the magazine asked them to sell subscriptions and win a pony and cart... now that is a prize...

I just wish this magazine would step out of their box and set some challenges to the readers. After all if everyone is like me, they will read it from cover to cover... after they go to the back to look at your page...they may or may not make one of the quilts, but there is nothing after reading it... nothing... no challenges, to responses required, no contests for the readers... we should be writing letters and sending in blocks or winning cash... or something special and different.... I don't need to win a pony cause the kids are all gone but fabric or thread or a trip on a cruise with Bonnie Hunter would be great...

Hey Bonnie, I just love your wise words at the end of the posts. I have been pinning them except for the last couple. There doesn't seem to be a pinterest or any other link for them. Have you changed that? These quotes are so good and a reminder to me of how I can live better, thanks for them.
