While Some Went Hiking -

A few retreaters left uber early to head up to Grayson Highlands yesterday morning - in search of ponies and avoiding rain.

I skipped on this trip - I get my computer work done before 9:30am and they were already 2 hours gone by then...but I wished them well and hoped they would have some pony-finding success.

They did!

The rest of us - it was a nice easy day for more quilting, more fun - as seen by the blocks here.  Not sure which sampler this is, but aren't the colors great?

And you can see there are more daily Christmas in July items being hung next to design wall projects as well.  They've been having fun with it all!

I love this vintage case turned sewing kit - and yes -that pile of Chilhowie blocks is growing!  How fun to see it in these repro fabrics.

Applique underway!

There are several folks working on one-block-wonder things - it's fun to see what the fabric will do when repeats are cut out and stitched back together.

So many different designs emerge depending on the fabric.

They are all so lovely!

All of these hexie pieces were cut from stacked panels just like the one you see in the center. Marvelous creativity and they are all so different!

It's so done!

And every stitch was worth the time it took.

Hand quilted quilts just feel so different than machine quilted ones.

I love both.  I am not choosing one thing over the other thing.  There is room for both.

All I know is that today I am diving back into my red/white/blue shirt stars so that I can quickly have another quilt in my hoop for evening stitching.

I'm still binding on mom's hexies - and it's likely that I'll have Huka Falls to bind after that one so I'll have something to work on before the next star top is done - 

And I'll be glad to have the pile up of projects on my sewing table whittled down back to manageable.

It's supposed to rain all day today.  We shall see on that.  But temps are much cooler - If we reach 70 that will be our high.

It's back to long jeans for me today!

Retreaters may be hitting quilt shops today - not sure what they have planned, but you'll find me back in my studio happily playing with fabric and knocking projects off my list.
