Four-Patches Found!

The other day while searching for something else entirely, I found not one - but TWO sandwich-sized baggies full of four-patch pairs, already right sides together, seams opposed and nested and completely ready to sew.

How did I forget that I even had these in my "orphan" and left over block part stash??

GOODNESS!  What a windfall!

And I know just where these are going to go.

Yesterday afternoon I settled in to some "In With the Old" on HBO Max - a series I've fallen into with much interest.

"Designers, builders and old-home enthusiasts transform abandoned structures across America by preserving their history while giving them new purpose."

Oh yeah, this is SO me!

So I'm watching away and happily sewing these four-patch parts together - can you see where this is going?

But where did they come from?

Evidently these lost-and-found four-patches are leftovers from the following quilts:

Daybreak!

And Sand Castles!

Both quilts are found in my book String Frenzy.

I adore four-patches.  I love making them.  They add a sparkle to everything they meet.

But again - how could I have forgotten that I had two sandwich-sized baggies full?!

Needless to say, my Triple Treat Leader & Ender project just got a kick in the pants and will be headed to the front burner.

I cleaned off my cutting table after making "the-quilt-of-too-many-triangles-that-is-still-unnamed" and at the same time cut any leftover short strips into block pieces for the Triple Treat quilt - that's a win/win.

How are you coming along on yours?

Ivy during last night's binding time.

I'm 3/4 the way up the 3rd side!

What a week it has been since our Chilhowie quilt reveal last Friday! 🥰
Has it really only been a week? It feels like 2! 🤪
There are so many gorgeous quilt top finishes to see! Keep them coming everyone.

This montage is from our #chilhowiequilt and #quiltvillemystery hashtags on Instagram.

If you haven't saved all of your PDF parts for Chilhowie yet, please do so. The mystery retires 1 month from the reveal date - 2/7/23. It will be re-released as a PDF pattern booklet for purchase on 2/15/23. I will be unable to provide any parts to anyone after 2/6/23.

And now for the moment you've all been waiting for - it's time for our Jan/Feb '23 Quiltmaker Gift-Away!  WE HAD 3,008 ENTRIES!

Our two winners are Shirley Cowan and Judith Peters!  Congrats!

Ladies, please reply with your mailing address to the notification email I sent to each of you. I'll get these right out to you!

This issue is filled with such cute projects I know you are going to find something you'll love to make.

I woke up to this dusting this morning.

It's another day of not wanting to go anywhere.  I'm okay with that. There is plenty here at home to keep me happy and busy!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

This can be a hard one.
Some things are worth sticking with because you know in your heart it's what you need to do.
But those other situations that steal your happiness?
Life is too short for that. Let It go!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

  1. How about "Isosceles" as the name of the quilt? An isosceles triangle is one that has two equal sides and yours fits the bill.

  3. I’m about to start emptying a full scrapbooking storage drawer full of 2.5” scrap squares—totally twosies in leader-ender style! Not sure what they’ll become yet. Thanks to you for introducing me to leader-enders—many of my quilts have been built that way 😁

  4. Found 4-patches will grow your Leader ender fast. Still trimming my Chilhowie parte to assemble. didn't have time through the holidays to trim as I sewed. this could take awhile. Most are the correct size. I'll be doing part 5,6 &7 very soon. My Guild friend asked me if my Mystery was done yet. I'm usually the first one to show it here in the Walla Walla Valey.

  6. What a wonderful bonus to find those four patch blocks! I love In With the Old. I was happy to discover there is now a third season as well. Some beautiful old houses there.

  7. Good morning! What a gold mine you found in those pairs! Me? I've not enough of them yet -- but am collecting steadily. Currently (besides art quilt pieces), I'm working on a crumb quilt (part of my Keep It Out of the Landfill project), and assembling the blocks for a 3/4-sized "Rhododendron Trail". But...I've saved all the instructions for "Chilhowie", as it will likely be next. Along the way I'm collecting strips for a postage stamp quilt, and making 6 1/2-square string blocks...Winter is a great time for quilting!
