Pam's Scrappy Sisters - Over the Porch Rail!

I'm so glad that the Scrappy Sisters had beautiful weather while retreating at quiltville Inn!

They sewed, some took quilt shop runs, some took long hikes - the weather was spectacular for late October.

That all changed YESTERDAY!

In fact, this is posting a bit late this morning - I was awakened just after 6am with the Generac turning on due to the power going off.

It didn't stay off long (Thank heavens for Generac and knowing it works!) but I was unsure of the power situation at the inn and QPO.

With housekeeper Susan coming this morning to get the house ready for the October Quiltvillians arriving tomorrow, I needed to be sure the power was on, or she wouldn't be able to clean.

Before blog writing, I headed over to the inn to see what was what.

Luckily - we had power.

But I soon found out - NO INTERNET!

So after fussing with that for a while, I am back at the cabin typing this out where I do have connection via cell data.

Without the internet at the QPO and Inn, I can't get a Verizon signal from my booster - so no cell service there either.

It's always something, isn't it?

Don't worry!  The eye candy may be late -

But the loveliness of these quilts more than makes up for it!

I spy 2 Frolic quilts, 2 Grassy Creek quilts, and a Straits of Mackinac from String Frenzy!

Followed by a gorgeous Appalachian Autumn (how appropriate for our lovely fall weather here!) 2 more Straits of Mackinac, and a Four-Patch X from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders.

And the quilty fun continues!

We were all in love with the Halloween quilt by It's Sew Emma - THREE more Straits of Mackinac quilts, and a Garden Party from the Addicted to Scraps book.

Oh ladies, you have outdone yourselves!

Sand Castles from String Frenzy, and our Unity Quilt from last year’s sew along!

Thanks for coming, Scrappy Sisters!

I'll see you next October!

They fill these walls with so much joy and laughter!

Thanks for making me an honorary Scrappy Sister, too!

I've been doing a bit of this.

Flipping and stitching down binding on my Cabin Corners quilt.

I love the things I see here!

And that wonky red polka dot makes me smile.

But it got set aside last night for a bit more of this:

I found another Sadie love bite.

It's been here at least 10 years.

Why did I wait so long?

Because solid fabrics are really hard to match, and I couldn't find the right blue.

After the last quilt repair job turned out so well, I am challenging myself to get to this one, too.

Does this account for my "Make One Thing Better" challenge?

(For those asking, there was no official start or post to this, just something I am adopting as I go. Feel free to join in and make time to make ONE THING better in your every day life.)

My patches are appliqued front and back.  Now I just need to splice in a new piece of binding where that chew place was, and I'll be good to machine stitch it back to the quilt, and finish it by hand in an upcoming evening.

I'm not sure how much else I'll get done today - I've got an appointment with the orthopedic guy to get x-rays on that right ankle and see if I damaged it more than I thought I did when I took that graceful fall down the front steps at the inn a bit over a month ago.

It's not healing well.  I need answers.  Let's hope we get them today.

How about your Tuesday ahead - anything fun going on where you are?  Autumn in full swing?

Time is running out!

You'll find Boxy Bow Ties in the digital pattern section of the Quiltville Store! And to kick this excitement into gear, I've placed it at 25% off through 10/31/21 at only $9.00, No coupon required!

Don't forget that my Punkin Patch Runner is also marked 50% off at only $5.00 through 10/31/21 as well!

If this is your first time downloading digital patterns from my store to a computer click HERE.

If you intend to download to an iPhone/iPad click HERE.

And if you haven't visited the store in a while - I want you to know that I have broken up with Paypal as my credit card processor.  If you had a PayPal account, everything was great.  if you didn't, however - and didn't want one - PayPal never stopped harassing guests with banners and ads to sign up and get an account, not to mention never being able to complete their purchase with their own card - unless they signed up for a PayPal account.

I lost so many customers because they refused to deal with PayPal.

I had tried to find a "real person" at PayPal, but it was all automated chat modules, things that went round and round, links to their FAQ page as suggestions, and no real help to be found.

I'm done with them.

The checkout process in the Quiltville Store now simply uses any credit/debit card.

If you prefer to use Paypal, just use your Paypal Mastercard as a regular credit card.  It will work the same way.

Yes, you will have to manually type in your number.  And the CV code.  And the expiration date.  But it's a small price to pay.

Thank you for understanding my need to take control over a situation that was annoying for far too many customers.

Maybe THAT can also qualify for my "Make ONE Thing Better" as I worked on the store, the credit card processing, and the new software integrated to print postage and shipping labels ALL. DAY. LONG.

And it's all good.

Now if only we can get internet back at the QPO - I'll be good to use it! LOL!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

I find this so very true!
And yes, there can be too much of a good thing - as I have found out while downsizing to sell the North Carolina house and reside permanently in a much smaller cabin in Virginia.
So I would add to this little meme that it is also good to share the happiness and let things go to be loved by others!

Have a wonderful Tuesday, everyone!

  1. Can't you just hear the original owners of the house saying, "Internet? Signal? Cell phone - is that something in a jail?" My oh my, the changes that house has seen!

  3. sorry to hear PayPal was too pushy, i love it and their good customer service from a buyer's point... oh well... you do what you have to do, and I've adopted your One Thing to DOT -- Do One Thing!!! Sometimes it's a 'gotta' do but i've been procrastinating and sometimes it's a "wanna" do for myownself and then it's the make one thing better do... but it certainly keeps me more focusted and moving along... thanks Bonnie, sorry for the power outage grief... i suppose it's the price you pay for your beautiful, gorgeous rural setting! sigh.. 4. Oh dear, over a month ago? Yeah, it should have healed by now if it was a simple sprain. I'm sure we all hope it's a very minor hiccup delaying the healing!

  5. Good luck with the ankle Bonnie. I've adapted the make one thing better in my life - love the idea, so many little things I've been procastinating on...today it's the linen closet!

  6. I quit Paypal long ago just because they were so annoying and aggravating! Glad you did, too; everything will be better because you did! LOL Sure hope you get an answer for that ankle and get er taken care of.

  9. So glad you are going to go get that ankle checked!! Praying it's nothing, just slow healing for some reason. I can commiserate with you on the power, or lack thereof. We in the Hi Desert deal with the same issue. Out of date, overloaded power lines. Can't wait until paint chip day!! I will finally have time to really dig into the mystery as I will be finished with the 3 (yes 3!) positions I hold with our guild. I will be Free!! Have a great weekend!

  11. For those pesky stickers—use a hair dryer to help with removal; also works on bumper stickers.

  12. Oh, that Unity quilt is lovely.....I am regretting not making it, but I had a big work assignment at that time and didn't get to participate. Maybe someday I will make one.

  13. So sorry to hear you no longer accept PayPal. I use them almost exclusively for my quilting purchases but don’t have their MasterCard and don’t want it. Will that be the only way to use PayPal? I really don’t want to miss out on your future patterns.

    1. I am sorry that I can't win for losing. For everyone who loves payhpal, there are 3 that hate it and can't get it to check out on my store. You may use a debit card, a pre-paid visa card, or any other form of payment, but I will not be offering paypal in the future.

  15. First time I tried to use PayPal they gave me a headache trying to figure it out. Never used them , just Debit card or C C. That has worked great for me on all purchases I’ve made. Love all the quilts, the ladies did a great job on them. Like your comments Cats, I always look forward to reading them each day. Ratchell in AR

  16. My one thing today was dusting off and listing my Mother's Singer 328K Singer sewing machine and getting it on Craig's List. She passed away 10 years ago and now I am ready to let go. We have moved to a much smaller space and I have 2 other machines .....and it is just time. I am hoping that someone special will come along. Actually, I would give it away to the right person. Also, got rid of an old folding typewriter table. I hope I continue to dig into the tubs in the under the stars storage area while this mood lasts.

  17. Bonnie, thank you for your "one thing a day" -- I've been in a bit of a funk and been struggling to get back on track. Your inspired me and that's become my new mantra..... I've gotten so much done just by 1 goal a day!!! Yesterday I actually did several! 😂

  18. I’m sorry about the PayPal issues. I am one who loves PayPal and uses it whenever I can. But I didn’t realize that they harass their non-customers like that. I can understand why you would get rid of them. I will just need to grab my wallet when making my future purchases. No problem.
I am sorry that your ankle is still giving you issues. Hopefully it will heal very soon.

  19. I can certainly understnd your frustration with Paypal. I have not had a problem with them, but have had issues with several other sites, trying to deal wiht an issue and not getting any help from their customer service. Does the
'Make one thing better" still apply if it is your daughter who actually does it? Our daughter who lives with us, was off from work yesterday and she made several things better around here. She first hung some new shelving units in our basement landing to hold canned goods and other items that were overloading my small pantry in the kitchen. Then she took out the dying tomatoe plants along the garage. And finally she searched and ordered the plane tickets for my spouse and I to fly to SC in January to visit old friends. She's been a blessing. These are all things I would have done easily several years ago. But now that I am well into my senior years I don't do so well with those things anymore. So TODAY I will work on my Autumn Harvest quilt. As I was stitching the leaf blocks together I found one block that was oriented the wrong way. So ripped that one apart and it is ready to restitich today.

  20. For those worried about using Paypal....get a second credit card to use for only online purchases. That way your regular credit card is for in person purchases. If your online one gets compromised, you still have a credit card to use for daily life. Make sure your online card only has a small credit limit. For me it's easier to keep track of this way.

  21. I'm so sorry your ankle hasn't healed well. My sister had similar troubles. Arthritis often starts up or worsens with such events. I'm dealing with the same in my knees after falls on a hiking trail. So I'm just going to put this out there for you to check out if you care to. It's a regenerative health pathway that helps with chronic pain and helps avoid surgeries for many. The website is caringmedical.com They are based in Florida and have tons of videos on their site for explanation of what they do. I hope you are successful with whatever treatment you find. Wow, we need our feet and knees!

  22. So glad you ditched Paypal - I won't use them ever. I'm one of your "would be" customers who can now be a "will be" customer. Looking forward to shopping Bonnie. Take care of that ankle - I could give you a horror story regarding my son and his injury - but I'll spare you that. Just get it seen to. Wishing you well and many thanks for the wonderful blog, you work so hard and it's appreciated. Elaine (England)

  23. Good on you for making a stand. I do not have a Facebook account and don’t want one.
Well done on making one thing better. Bringing your older damaged quilt back to life. The patch adds to the story of the quilt. It is so good to see your quilts being used.
