Thursday: To Xi'an!

Yesterday was just a day to get from Beijing to Xi'an.
It took longer than we thought! Our flight was delayed out of Beijing by somewhere around 2 hours.
They fed us breakfast while waiting in the airport. Breakfast consisted of things like a soy sauce pickled egg, pickled cabbage much like kimchi, some rice cracker cookie things, a yogurt, and something else I can't remember or decipher just what it was!

We were quite the curiosity as we pulled out our busy bags and continued to stitch on our hexie stars for our Rishi project.
There is something wonderful about the ability to stitch wherever and whenever we feel like it.
Other people ran their phone and tablet batteries down playing mindless games of Candy Crush or solitaire with nothing to show for it.
Many of our ladies have up to three stars finished so far.
Welcome to Xi'an! Welcome to Hilton! It's much like welcome to Moe's! That is if you have a Moe's Grill near where you are.
Come to think of it, Moe's Grill sounds really great right about now!
We wheeled  our luggage over sumptuously plush carpets to our rooms for about an hour's rest before joining again for stitch class in the hotel.
Class only lasted an hour, just enough to share some hints and helps and tricks when it comes to joining star to star and getting points to match precisely.
My lovely room! You should have heard my exclaims of delight when I barely tugged the blinds and they automatically closed, another tug and they automatically opened!
And a chaise  just for me!
Bathtub behind a glass wall!
Never fear, there is an automatic shade that lowers to cover that glass should you need to!
All I wanted was a hot bubble bath - the tub is in perfect view of the TV should there be something on it that I can understand!
17 course dumpling dinner and a musical show? Absolutely!
The dumplings were fabulous, in fact this morning I still feel like I am stuffed from head to toe with dumplings! It will probably be a while before I eat dumplings again!
The musical show was absolutely beautiful and the costuming exquisite.
I love the pride that the Chinese people take in their history, the longest-standing history I am aware of.
There is so much to learn here, graciousness and kindness and consideration for others - unless you are driving through traffic!
There are no rules when it comes to making a right-hand turn through a crosswalk. We'll try to catch that on video later! It's quite entertaining!
Today is our terracotta warriors day. From what I understand our itinerary is quite full and then we leave the hotel tomorrow morning to begin our journeys home. This week has flown by so quickly and I know I will never forget it!
I have shared some video clips to Instagram and Facebook if you'd like to follow me there. I can't embed those into this blog post as I am posting by email.
Quiltville quote of the day:
Would you believe this tile floor was found outside of a Pizza Hut in Beijing? I do believe what it says. Kindness is a universal language. Smiles are a universal language. Helpfulness is a universal language. Spread it around!
Much love from Xi'an,

  4. The above very long comment looks like you have been hacked. Anyway, your mention of dumplings made my mouth water. We spent 4 summers in Taiwan after we retired. There, we were told, the stop lights are suggestions, although in Taipei drivers did obey them. When we visited Viet Nam after we left Taiwan in 2005, traffic was very interesting. We decided that it was organized with the bigger vehicle having the right away. There was one ride in a taxi when I decided it was better for my heart to watch the architecture rather than the traffic. Glad you are having such a good trip. Nancy A: rangerer@sbcglobal.net

  5. Your trip pictures have been fabulous. Looks like a great trip.
