I just got back from dinner ---we went and had had lovely home-style fare at Miss Maimee’s --- I opted for the spinach salad, and partnered that with lemon peppered grilled catfish. It was DELISH!
I putzed around in my room, changed into jammies, put “the mentalist” on the TV ((Hey, it’s Monday, so that means there is NO NCIS on USA---- it’s WRESTLING…:cP)) and started in to edit the photos from today’s Scrappy Mountain Majesties workshop ----and found my inbox was FULL of congratulatory email!
I am SO flabbergasted ----Thank you all so much. Seriously, I feel almost embarrassingly guilty ---because the landslide was so complete that it looks like pay-offs and ballot box stuffing may have been involved!
At the same time I know I gave you the LINK to go vote – but I never twisted anyone’s arm on WHO to vote for ---it was multiple choice ---and I didn’t participate in any voting, nor did I ask my family to vote either.
In all my life I never really envisioned my life being the way that it is, and doing what I am doing. With book 4 just about ready for the presses, it still feels all so surreal to me. Thank you for being here with me on this amazing journey!
Thank You! You know, just today several of us “long time” quilters were talking about the people that influenced us the most in our quilting ---If I were giving this award to anyone myself, I’d give it to Jinny Beyer, or Judy Martin or Marsha McCloskey. My love of traditional patterns is anchored in inspiration from these women. I owe so much of how I work to them.
This award humbles me the most, because this is where my heart is. I love taking the shaky beginners, the hopeful novices and showing them that piecing can be FUN and they can work in ways they are comfortable, while pushing their boundaries and giving them more breathing room to play. That intricate designs don’t have to be hard to do ---and ugly fabrics are only ugly when they are WHOLE----once you dice it, it’s just COLOR --- let it play! And no matter what I teach --- or how many times I teach it --- I always learn far more from those I meet, than they learn from me. Dealing with quilters all over the globe has made the world a much more vibrant, colorful, fun place to be.
This is the one award that I just didn’t see coming. There are so many others that I would have awarded this to, because I have followed them and revered them and appreciated what they have done for the quilting word for the past 30+ years that I have been quilting. If I had my choice, I’d award this to the author of the very first quilting book that I ever bought ----the author is Mary Ellen Hopkins, and her book “It’s Okay if You Sit On My Quilt” is what turned the lightbulb on for me. I bought this book with the first ever credit card that DH and I had---before Jason was born. It was $20.00 and I charged it. I poured over that book ----til the pages were dog eared and margins were filled with my handwritten notes of ideas and sketches. This is the book that taught me that “Oh! It’s just a GRID! Patchwork is just like a design on graph paper!” And from that moment there was no stopping that train ---
Once you’ve been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ripe young age of 50 --- just where is there to go now?
I guess I’ll NEED to bone up on the Senior Citizen Texting Code ----Get my Quilter’s Assisted Living Home ready ---there’s nothing left to do now but retire!
LMDO ((Laughing my Dentures Out!)) LOL!
Seriously --- thank you from the bottom of my very patched up and quilted heart! Click HERE to view all the other awards given! And thank you to Sew Cal Gal for the efforts she put forth in pulling this together!
Congratulations! So happy for you, and so agree with the rest of the community that voted for you! You have had such an impact on so many of us. ReplyDeleteI am one of those newbie quilters and even though I have never had the opportunity to have you teach me personally, You have done so through your blog and books. It opens my eyes to every possible quilt design that can be found any place in the world, even a bathroom! Congratulations on your achievements and I am pleased that my votes went to this winner!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations Bonnie! I knew you were the best! You have inspired me, helped me learn the art of quilting, and I must say have had a BIG influence on my quilting life. Who would have thought back in 2007 when I did your first mystery I would get to where I could do your many pieces quilts and have them turn out so well. Thank you for all you do, you really do impact lives!
ReplyDeleteArlene from So. Calif.
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI would have quit quilting if it weren't for YOU, your way of explaining things, your giving and sharing with all what really matters for quilting!
Thank you so much for what you are doing!
CONGRATS BONNIE !! I'm not the least bit surprised ... you are such a creative and inspiring quilter/teacher/author !
ReplyDeleteYou brought me BACK to my real love - Scrap quilts - and to my senses, from all those expensive, "matchy-match" quilts I'd been struggling to complete. I'd start them but get bored, because I already KNEW how they were going to turn out !
You can't RETIRE - yet ! At least not until I do !
Congrat's Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Bonnie. You deserve it. You have taught me a lot even without knowing. Your free patterns and tutorials have been of a great help to my quilting. Thank you.

Congratulations! I am so happy for you. I promised I only voted once too. You have been such inspiration to me as well. You taught me many things such as the Quilt Police can just jump in a creek and if "it's still ugly, it just isn't small enough"!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You work so hard you deserve them. x
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Your inspiration and enthusiasm were well rewarded.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! I love your quilts and you always give us great ideas to use up the stash!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You are very deserving of these awards. You have had more influence on my quilting than any other quilter.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Bonnie!!
ReplyDeleteYou deserve all of this and more. You are right, you gave us the link, but there were lists of all the stars of quilting AND we didn't have to vote for you. We voted for you b/c it is YOU we voted for. Get it? Take a bow for each award and think of them as dozens of roses from each of us. You will be in roses for ever. LOL Keep up the great work. Bonnie, I'm teaching a newbie quilting and just took my pieces of Orca Bay over to her house and she nearly fainted. LOL I'll bring her along. She was making a memory quilt out of shirts. She had the pattern from a book and didn't know how to cut up the men's shirts. LOL I saw the light bulb some on when I took her rotary cutter and sliced up one side seam. It is a pleasure to watch.
ReplyDeleteMaryEllen Hopkins was the first "famous" quilter to speak at my guild when I first started quilting. A true inspiration. Congratulations Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteCongrats ! you have helped and inspired many many quilters !
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Bonnie! I think the right person got all the awards!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you got the awards and are so humble about them- that is why you have them in the first place! You are a talented lady but you share your loves- all of them with us. As a new quilter- with no real support from family a guild or anyone else I look forward to reading your blog multiple times a day for inspiration and some good laughs. Someday when I am asked who got me to grow and sew it will be Bonnie Hunt and Jo from Jo's Country Junction because that is where I learned and started a crumb block! Thanks to both of you!
ReplyDeleteBonnie...congratulations on your landslide! It is most truly deserved. I have never met you personally, but what I have learned just from your site in a very short time has changed the way I quilt. Thank you for all you do for us quilters!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Bonnie....what a win/wins! We voted for you because of your spirit and talent. Thanks so much for sharing and giving us your talent and inspiration. NC rocks!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteI think you have way more influence on the "quilting world" than you can imagine.
Reading you blog at least daily is a must for me, it's inspiring and you never fail to make me laugh as well. I just wish to have the chance to attend one of your workshops someday...
Thank you for sharing your work, your ideas and your thoughts with all of us quilters.
You definitely deserved winning each of those awards.
And very well deserved! Contratulations Bonnie, and if I am ever in the neighborhood of one of your workshops, and unfortunate enough to not be in class, I am stopping by. I really could not do it!!!! It would be like going to Philly and not seeing the Liberty Bell!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on well deserved awards!
ReplyDeleteYou inspire us all. Thanks :-)
Congratulations, Bonnie! You are a fabulous teacher and designer and deserve every award.
ReplyDeleteLooking foward to seeing you at Smith Mountain Lake the end of this month.
Seriously, Bonnie - did you doubt? If you only knew how much everyone went through to make sure you came out the winner - you would just be "pea green with envy" at our endurance in hitting that vote key. I just wish they had "redial" on that page. No one more deserving than you - you work so very, very hard to keep so many of us happy with your wisdom, your patterns, your beautiful spirit and your presence. Thanks from me Judy C in NC
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!! You deserve it. Enjoy it. But no Quilter's Retirement Home or Assisted Living jst yet.

I voted BEFORE you even mentioned it. Congrats on all the wins! If you are a 'senior citizen', then I'm just a year behind you. It was sweet of SoCalGal to post a pic of my quilted jacket, too. Sorry I didn't congrat you last night. I was at guild.
ReplyDeleteI voted before I saw the post, too. You deserve every award, Bonnie. Thanks for everything you do for the quilting world! It is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI also have other quilter teachers out there but none of them seem to inspire me and let me have as much as you. All your designs are simple but beautiful and easy enough for all. I have made so many of your quilts and am always looking to the next one. My bucket list--attend a three day workshop with you and have the time of my life.Congratulations- you have earned every one of them.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Bonnie! So happy you are getting the recognition you deserve! I hope to someday be able to attend one of your workshops in Texas!

ReplyDeleteChristine Burtch - pbcquiltlover
Bonnie could designate a day when she will be home, an hour (or time period) that she would be available and across the world we could all take the time to toast Bonnie with all of our congratulations and "way to go, girl's". With all the different time zones, this party could last all day.
ReplyDeleteJudy C in NC
Congrats, Bonnie!!!! You deserve them all!!!!!!
