Down By The River -

We have had some lovely unseasonably warm days this week - and I've been lucky enough to have quilting retreaters that were as gung-ho about getting out on a walk in the sunshine as I have been.

Temps have been in the low 70s in the afternoons - just perfect!

This is also the first time I had really gotten off the main road to see just what storm damage was left after Helene blew in and blew out a few weeks ago.

Sandbars are now where sandbars weren't before.

And if you look in the limbs of the trees - you'll see the grass and debris left behind as water levels receded.

Downed trees and mess everywhere.

And still, we trotted on!

All the way to the VA/NC state line!

But for gauge alone - check out how high above her head was the debris in the trees.  The water here was so unbelievably high.

Here too...can you see the clump of grass hanging from that limb?

Here's a better view.

This was the water level during the peak of Helene.

It's changed the flow of this bend in the creek.

This is along Round House Road where Wilson Creek meets the New River.

As for the Round House?  We always kind of knew it was a goner and that fixing it up was someone's pipe dream.

The water levels reached up to the porch.  Total flood out.  I don't think it is salvageable now.

Sunny porch stitching!

Cute cute fruit!

There are many projects going on all at the same time on the design walls.

Saturday morning was also a day for heading out to quilt shops - I think at one time there were 9 gone, and only 3 remaining behind to hold down the fort.

This makes me happy when folks come back with armloads of shopping bags and new fabrics to play with.

I took these photos while the room was empty.

Pretty colors!

Quilt top for a friend who couldn't come -

It's coming together!

Always always love a good log cabin!

I spy an on ringo lake in progress!

As for me through the weekend?

And I have a County Clare top finish!

And a pieced back!

Close up of fabrics -

It's a crazy busy day this morning.  Hair cut at 9:30 (running as soon as I push send on this) and then a dentist appointment at 1:30 -

And it's the last day of retreat for the Brown Bird Bee girls - so I'll rush back and we'll finish up all the things.

I doubt I'll have time to load this in the machine today - maybe tomorrow while the laundry runs.

How was your weekend?  Did you forget about this?

I want to thank everyone for the response to my Ladder Star Gift-Away!

The pictures I have seen of the flooding and destruction boggles my mind. How could there be so much water? I am glad you and family came through. My cousin and family in Florida came through both storms ok with some clean up. Onwards and upwards. Have a wonderful day. Elaine L

  6. County Claire is just gorgeous!! We had a 4 day weekend since the small town I work in had their festival & fun. I had my own fun with finishing up Chilhowie. Of course my oldest daughter has claimed it! :)
That water level was no joke. It's sad to hear about the Round House. I hope things are getting back on track. Today I dug in one bucket of scraps, & while it was a little overwhelming, it was fun to find a print of Wendy, & remembering that it was some of the very first fabric that I bought! Happy quilting!
