Weekend Quilt Warriors!

Some of Chris's Christmas in July group made it up to Grayson Highlands to hike with the ponies!

This makes me so happy - even though I'm a bit jealous while I wait out the healing of my knee.

They got out and about, beat a thunderstorm, and saw at least 7 ponies wandering along the sides of the Appalachian Trail.

Great job ladies!

The ponies couldn't care less that there are people about -

They just keep munching the grass amidst the wildflowers - natures lawn mowers at work!

But those clouds!

The storm was rolling in yesterday around noon and they hightailed it back to the in where big droplets were already falling from the sky by the time they pulled in.

Once safely inside the sky really let loose - but they made it back in time.  Great job!

More design wall progress photos while they were gone -

Triangle Swirls - No pattern.

Betsy is winging this on the design wall and it's looking great!  She was running short on reds and blues so I ran to the scrap bins next door to see what I could add to her mix.

Bonus triangle pinwheels becoming a border!

Beautiful top on the wall!
And next to it:

Look what's inside the vintage case turned sewing box!

Something very autumn nine-patchy happening here!

Vivian brought her fleet of Featherweights to get some instruction on the maintenance.  I love seeing groupings like this!

The big Saturday excursion.

As you may well remember, Saturday was the day that Tula Lou got to go see the vet in Hillsville for her osteomyelitis.

Osteomyelitis is an infection of the bones, and in Tula's case it probably started when she received that bad bite on her leg sometime during the winter.

We had tried curing it with simple antibiotic shots, and it would start to get better but it would come back so we've had to go with more drastic long-term measures.

I'm happy to report that as of Saturday's tests and x-rays, we are seeing about 60% improvement.

She still needs vet appointments for more exams and meds every 2 weeks until she is better - but we feel she is worth it.

She just gets sweeter and more friendly with time and attention.

Safely back home.

See? That was no big deal!

Her foot/leg may never go back down to normal size, it may always be a bit bigger than the other leg, but we can deal with that.  She is using it without pain, and that's what counds.

For now, we are keeping her food and water inside the crate with the crate door propped open.  Hopefully she'll get used to that.

And the next time we need to take her to the vet it will be a simple closing of the door and off we go again.

It's a hit!  Thank you so much!

Today's is the last full day for Chris's Christmas in July group - we've got group photos this morning, over the porch rail photos late this afternoon when the sun is in the right place to shine on the side porch, and hopefully firepit tonight should the rain stay away.

This past week has flown so quickly - how was your weekend?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

You are always more than good enough.
Believe in yourself. ALWAYS.
Happy Monday, everyone!

  1. Happy to know Tula is on the mend. She is so beautiful.
Also good to hear that you didn't join the hike! Good for you. Didn't accomplish everything I needed to this past weekend but I have today.
    Have a wonderful day 🌹
    Blessings 💞🙏

  2. LOL.. never resorted to the phrase! I am supremely confident, and hohnest about the ability andlevel of perfection i require in my work, LOL while I do not subscribe to the "galloping horse at midnight" theory, there comes a time sometimes when "good enough" IS enough. there are times when the planets are all in alignment and every point is correct (rare) and most when a non-quilter would think she were looking at perfection!!!... i am so happy for you and TulaLou, if she hadn't wandered into Quiltville she probably would have perished with that deadly osteomylitis... it's somethiong that doesn't get better on it's own. I am sympathetic also to Bonnie, somehow managed to tweek, tweak? my knee so am hobbling about with the help of my walker, otherwise, am improving by bits and pieces and so grateful for all your prayers... i do not mean to derail bonnie's blog... i know it's hers and about quilting, but felt so many similarities in our lives, i hadda keep you up to date! no ponies though... Mary Montgomery. Love your groups photos. The ponies were a treat, since we went to visit them one year while visiting my daughter in Raleigh. The ponies are so tame! Even the babies. Love your posts, get rested so you can keep up the interesting posts.

  7. Awe... what a fun story to tell when they get back home! I don't know what it is, but I always love to watch animals grazing away. It's so peaceful to me. Hopefully soon you will be back on that hike!
We hit the "weather lottery" yesterday with a huge thunderstorm that knocked out our power for a bit. I'm glad I was napping instead of down the hill quilting on the long arm! Today I am getting bindings ready for the projects, (4) and hopefully I will be getting them done before heading back to work next week! :(
Great quote to start the week! Have a Happy Monday, everyone!

  8. Loved the beginnings on the wall. So lovely and such talent. Tula Lou is a lucky kitty to have the care she has. So happy to hear the ponies are still on the hill. Such fun for your guests. The quote hit home, man oh man, we have to be careful with self talk. Thanks for sharing your wonderful world.
