We flew from Cairo to Luxor. LUXOR!
The city Luxor that now stands where the ancient settlement of Thebes was the capital of Egypt for long periods during the Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom eras.
My inner history nut was soaking in every minute of standing in ancient spaces.
As I go through these photos a month later - what Yusef our Egyptologist told us has come to pass. All of the photos are the same color. LOL!
And one temple starts to resemble another and you can't remember which ones were from which location.

Random people - there were always people.
The place was packed with people. If you can take a photo with only a few random bystanders in your shot - you are lucky.
So cool!

This statue looks like it is wearing a palm tree hat.
And as much as I hate vertical photos - that's the only way to fit this tall stuff in the frame!
You have to look up and marvel at how they built things like this.

I remember Yusef telling us that it was only the priests and holy men who were allowed in these spaces.
And here we were walking through them. Marveling in wonder at how something so magnificent could not only be built this way, but was still standing.
Our feet, moving through these spaces - are now part of its story. And it is part of ours.

Everywhere I turned I was filled with wonder and amazement.
My feet. In ancient spaces.
Waiting for my group beyond the front gate - finding a less people filled space.
And then to "run the gauntlet" through the vendors mall - the only way out to the parking lot - where the a/c of our bus was waiting for us.
Later this evening we would visit the temple of Luxor at sunset - a beautiful sight.
Are these all starting to run together for you too? And I haven't even gotten to Ireland yet!
We got her!
Tuesday was a complete fail at getting Tula Lou to the vet for her antibiotic shot. She knew the gig was up as soon as she saw the crate.
I left the crate on the porch right where it was over the past few days and this morning when she was super hungry for breakfast, I put her food down, waited until she was fully engaged in consuming it, snatched her up, shoved her in and shut the door.
Oh, the indignity!
The good news is, the bad infection she had in her left hind leg that was also affecting the bones in her leg is healing!
The bad news is - little does she know that on the 22nd we've got to do it all over again for another appointment!
I trimmed some units!
After the house was made ready and beds were made, and I found myself with an hour before the expected arrival of the Pieceful Hearts gals - I grabbed some units that had been sitting and got them trimmed up and ready for the next step.
Sometimes It's just a small amount of progress that makes a day feel like a success. One hour.
But today is the first day in several days where I didn't have to run off in a car to some appointment and I am hoping for more sewing time today.
I'll take it!

ReplyDeleteWe grew up in NYC. So the Southwest is so intriguing for us , but our son, who lives in Colorado once commented “If you’ve seen one red rock, you’ve seen them all.” All one color, so many shapes.

Maybe because that's all i see you wearing in the photos you post... good fortune and youre catching up Tula for her trips to the vet!!! ReplyDeleteTry this on your Emily. Years ago we had several cats and were taking them to a reduced-fee, community clinic for their shots. My regular vet said to put each one in their own pillowcase, and take them out only to get their shot. They were so calm in the pillowcase and the shot was over before they knew what had happened. It must be the fact that they can't see where they are or are going. Who knew this hack for the use of a pillowcase would work?

Those are slim slivers. They make a difference in the finished piecing though. Hurray for an hour of play on a busy day. It's good to see the names of the places you saw and got to visit there in the Ancient valley of stones. Great adventure!!

ReplyDeleteToday I am starting the donation quilts for my kiddos who are graduating this year. This is a special group as they were all freshmen when I started! WOW! We are also trying to beat the heat... and at least thinking about going back to school soon. UGH... happy THursday and I hope you sneak in some rest time as well!
Your pictures are amazing. Wouldn’t it be great if we could go thru those ancient places alone like they did back then?? Wondering if you were able to find any “Egyptian Cotton” or see any cotton fields where they grow that famous cotton.
