I met yesterday with the members of the Antietam Quilt Guild of Hagerstown, MD along with visiting friends and neighbors from near by guilds.
It was a Scrap Crystals day from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders!
Our workshop space was such a nice fellowship room at the local Seventh Day Adventist church – great lighting, kitchen attached, and a big wall of windows so that we had natural light and the vibrant green of spring pouring in from outside.
The only thing we wished was that we could SEW outside on such a beautiful day!
I loved making my Scrap Crystals quilt – bonus triangle bonanza, as I used many bonus triangles from other projects to be my star points, making the remainder needed from easy strip sets.
My class got busy with the Essential Triangle Tool, building their variety by working from short strip sets (Try for no more than 6 pairs from any strip set so you don’t have too much of one thing going on!) and by lunch time some units were coming together!
SEW MANY TRIANGLES!
How about this for staying organized?
Or this??
Or if you are more like me:
THIS!! Go for it!
I’m flexible in my workshops. For instance, if you decided to join in at the guild meeting the night before, and there isn’t a lot of time to pull fabric and cut –and your strips are a diffferent width? I’m going to upsize the quilt block so you can use your 2 1/2” strips instead of 2”. Why waste 20% of the fabric by trimming them down? Just go bigger and use it all!
16” block instead of a 12” block!
Amazingly enough, no one wanted to go for the 9” block by working with really SMALL strips and triangles. LOL.
It was so great to see these ladies again!
You’ll find the rest of our day’s fun in the slide show below:
After our workshop was over, I hit the road and pointed Moby toward Baltimore.
Today is a double lecture day. I’m presenting to the guild in Glen Burnie this morning, and the guild in Linthicum this evening.
I’m honestly not SURE what I’ll do with my time in the middle, but I know I’ll come up with something.
It’s been great to have my own wheels this trip since these 4 guilds are a bit away from each other. Flying would have made this itinerary near to impossible.
Tucked in with Blue Skies from String Fling on the bed!

ReplyDeleteOh, I'd love to take all those classes, but will be in Sisters, OR for the quilt show with my Wonky Quilters. Thanks for posting availability! I would love to take another class or ten from you!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, these quilts are so gorgeous! Very inspiring. Can you please tell us the name of the song that played during the slide show......it is SEWWW relaxing! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'll be at your three classes! Thanks for the info. Please bring sewing machines that need new homes.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing all the color combinations in the slide show! I'm excited to take this class with you in July in Utah. I think that mine will be blue and yellow, but I haven't decided for certain yet.
ReplyDeleteI would love to come take some more classes from you, also, but may still be in Eastern OR, with baby sister, who is dying of cancer.
ReplyDeleteBecky- I love Sisters, and I love the Quilt show. I have a dear friend/adoptive sister that is trying to get me to extend in OR, and to come to the quilt show with them. Which, I would love to do, but my obligations are to my sister and family in Eastern Oregon.
Bonnie, Safe travels, and Happy Mother's Day!

I would LOVE to take one of your classes. I am in Ontario, Canada though so it's a long way....... I noticed in the pictures that someone had a drop centre table for a Featherweight and someone else had a clear extension on the table beside theirs. Any idea where these can be purchased? I quilt with a 15/90 and my Featherweight and I really need a way to have an extension piece for free motion. I've never seen either of these in Canada.
