Favorites of the Season!

I’m waiting for Dad to get ready so we can get out and go! I hear the sound of his electric shaver coming from the bathroom at our hotel, and it brings back SO many memories!  Remember those Norelco ads for the shaver that santa rode on? I loved those ads from way back when!

I’m also seeing ads for things like 24 hours of “Miracle on 34th Street” or the “Christmas Story” with “You’ll shoot your eye out!!” fun.

Christmas is a time for snuggling in and watching favorites!

These are a couple of ours!

holidayinn

Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby and fred Astaire is SO CLASSIC!! It’s a black and white movie, and I’m really glad they never colored it.  The song “White Christmas” originally came from this movie, and there are lines that we find ourselves quoting all the time from it!

I had to laugh just last week as I was waiting for a flight and someone over the loud speaker said “Linda Mason, Linda Mason, please see me at the podium”.  There is a whole  “I’m Linda Mason.” “OH, LINDA MASON” scene in this movie that is just so funny. If you haven’t made this one part of your yearly Christmas Video Ritual, please do!

White-Christmas

White Christmas is another one…Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye! CLASSIC!

Others around our house include all the “Home Alone” movies, and other comedy silliness.

What are the standards at your house for holiday viewing?

Today we are looking at renting a car and doing out and about things..the bridge, the dam, and other things that are not within walking distance since today will be the warmest day! I love an adventure!

  1. Of course, the old standard you used to see on every TV channel every night in Dec:

    It's a Wonderful Life!

  3. I'll vote for Holiday Inn over White Christmas, but love and watch them both. But really, who is better than Fred Astaire in ANYTHING? Also the Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol from 1951, which has perhaps the most joyous scene in film when Scrooge realizes than he has a second chance at redemption (his poor beleagured housekeeper throwing her apron over her head and running out of the room hysterically when faced with his presumed insanity is priceless!). I love it so! I read "A Christmas Carol" every year too.

Sorry for the deletion. I'm gonna learn to type someday!

  4. Our magic elf brings "Elf" every year for Friday night cuddling and viewing in front of the fire. We also love all of the "Home Alone" movies and "A Christmas Story."

For the big people, we love "Four Christmases" and always have to watch all 4 "Die Hard" movies.

I couldn't get through the Christmas season without seeing "It's a Wonderful Life" or watching "The Grinch That Stole Christmas" at least once.

How old were you before you realized that they left the R out of Norelco on the Christmas ad? I was probably 10 or 12.....

  7. "Why, I'm Linda Mason!" :) My family fake-plays the bells on the Christmas tree when we hear White Christmas. Because that's how Bing does it.

  9. I love watching movies over and over again! My favorites - along with the ones that were already mentioned are: Love Actually (R rated Christmas movies - really??) and a made-for-tv movie called "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". It's not really Christmas until all the movies are rewatched!! doni @ Oregon coast

  10. Our families favorite Christmas movie is "Christmas Vacation". It is a tradition on Thanksgiving night after all the dishes and leftovers have all been put away we all watch this movie. I love to hear the laughter and people saying the lines right along with the actors. This is my sign that the Christmas decorations will be coming out of hiding in the next couple of days.
