Little Bits of Progress!

What a difference has been made in this little room!

The closet dismantling, the wall mudding, sanding, painting - it has made it so worth it in this little space!

When I first talked about the "storage room re-do" I asked what this room may have originally been used for.

If you look at the left of the photo just beyond that metal shelving unit that is closest to you you will see a door.  It opens into the master bedroom.  Or what we call "Bedroom 3", the room with the turret space as sitting area.

For generations (At least since the 1950s when the built-in closets were added) this was the master "dressing room."

Several have also suggested that it may have been used as a nursery, a "sick room" or even a sewing room over the 135+ years this house has been in existence.

After moving the metal shelving in yesterday afternoon, we took a drive over to West Jefferson, NC where some new blinds were acquired at Lowes.  The blinds should be installed today.  No more dusty awful curtains blocking out that light.

My job this weekend is to now install all of the linens and supplies on these shelves, as the room was completely emptied out to do the remodel.

Signage was also hung!

I bought the "Coffee, Anyone?" sign quite a while ago, but needed a tall guy with a leveler to help me hang it.

I just think it's super cute!

This is also going on - I have a plan!

It is going to have me going through those string bins in rainbow fashion  - because the options with string blocks are completely limitless!

It's a continuation of the jackknife block weekend project - and since we are here at the weekend - as soon as I finish stocking that newly painted and shelving installed utility room, I'll be back at it.

And though I've been able to park at the TOP of my drive for the past two nights (HOORAY!) that luxury is to be short lived as we are expecting 3-6 inches or snow overnight tonight. I'll be parking at the bottom once again!

It has got to get better as we move closer to spring, yes?  I can hang in there, just a bit longer!

It was past dinner time by the time we got back from Lowes - I had thawed some ground beef and since it was waiting in the fridge, Friday night was declared a good Taco Salad night - So simple. So good.

And it wasn't long before I was feet up in my comfy chair with Ivy taking up position between my feet.

I hand quilted until my eyes wanted to close and it was time for bed.

Somehow we have arrived here at Saturday. This week has just FLOWN by!  Do you feel that way too?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

This is a hard one for most of us. We need to look beyond the criticism itself to really see those who are dishing it out. And why.
Why does their opinion matter so much? It shouldn't. It doesn't.
Stop giving criticism the power to derail your life.

Have a terrific weekend, everyone! I am looking forward to a relaxing #mediafreesunday tomorrow. I'll catch you back here on Monday!

  1. The coffee corner looks very inviting. Hopefully, retreats and day gatherings will resume safely later this year for all to attend. Thanks so much for sharing the many photos.

  2. I know you are constantly criticized, however, i'd like to suggest a tip I use in my storage cupboards... I use the little (and sometimes large) desiccant packages to help keep moisture from my fabrics. They come in any number of products, with the caution "Do not eat" (smiles) and even friends save them for me. There's much more humidity here in Carlsbad, CA (beach town) and they seem to help a great deal... thanks for all you do, Ivy has settled in, she was so meant to be, happy girl!! and a nice stitching companion, even if she does anchor the quilt sometimes... hugs and happy superbowl Sunday.

  3. Yep, we're getting another 3-4" of snow as I speak, on top of what was already there. Not complaining, though. We had a very dry summer and are well behind normal for precip in my area. All of this snow will help chip away at the deficit.

Storage room looks great - bright and fresh and convenient. We use that wire shelving everywhere, too - so useful. Sew day ahead for my teen daughters and I today. Happy! Stay warm.

  6. A trunk room? My great-aunt had a trunk room.
Also here in the city old apartment buildings still have trunk rooms.

  9. My grandmother had a teeny sewing room in what was an otherwise "pass-through" room to get from the bedroom hallway to the attic door; I can remember how I loved sitting in there with her while she treadled away! I love your coffee nook. That quote is the BEST! :)

  10. I love seeing how you keep us posted in the constant updates. Glad to hear that you have been able to park at the top for a little bit! The coffee sign is cute! Your quotes seem to have a theme lately, and they have been helping me with my own struggles of acceptance. Thank you for that. Have an awesome weekend!!

  12. I need to memorize today's quote and repeat it to myself daily, if not hourly at times! Thanks! Love the new storage room.

  13. I too love that quote - wish someone would have said it to me long ago and if they did wish I'd listened. I too have those shelves - love them cause I can see what I've got and they don't take up a lot of space. Now a question: Are those strings like what Cotton to Quilts sells ?? Just trying to get an idea on width. Have a great day.

  21. Your quote hit home. I am so ready to accept criticism, no matter who says it, yet am suspicious of praise, thinking they're just being polite. I need to turn that around!

  22. Betsy K - can't wait till July. room looks great. I just can't picture where it is, we only got rain here - 3rd day this past week. I would love a little more snow before winter is gone.

  23. I love your storage area and the coffee area. What strikes me most when you post pictures is the contentment in the eyes of your pets. I'm thinking each of them know how lucky they were to come across you.

  24. I love the blues. This may be a stupid question but are you using paper or just sewing strips to each other? Whatever this will be fantastic in blues or maybe some other color. I have a lot of teals. LOL

  25. Excellent quote! I may have to frame that in my sewing room. Good life advice; thank you.

  26. I agree with all- that quote is great. Question about room remodel- what is "wall mudding" never heard that word before! And keep us updated on your remodel and those gorgeous blues!

  27. I love your quote. I noticed the purple on the right side of the antique quilt. I have seen that purple somewhere. My little dog loves to sleep between my feet. Great storage room. I love the coffee center and the sign. I like the blues too. Here's hoping the snow wont last too much longer. So glad I don't have to worry about a place here in So. Ca. where I live. We do have a beautiful view of snow on Mt. Baldy to look at. I've grown up viewing Mt. Baldy and the Mt. range it is a part of. I learned when I was a little girl from my oldest sister that north is where the Mts. are. LOL I didn't know north from south till she told me. I could always count on my big sister Barbie.
